Let's get it straight, Kathleen Kennedy, not Disney Inc, ruined Star Wars

I'm seeing this all over the internet where there's this secret cabal of Disney execs, who decided to destroy Star Wars.

Sorry, that's just not the case. This is not the C-suite vs humanity epic battle of wits. This is one nasty, men-hating bitch, Kathleen Kennedy and her cronies vs humanity.

What happened was that Lucas mistakenly took Kathleen to be a friend/ally .... however, instead, little did he know but his protege, who was with Lucasfilm since the time of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and 'Return of the Jedi' was a snake in the grass, a Femi-Nazi Manchurian candidate of a Palpatine-like nature. Yes, Lucas handed the franchise over to her and Disney simply allowed Lucasfilm to run as a wholly owned subsidiary under Lucas's hand chosen successor.

As long as the franchise made money, Disney's executives gave carte blanche to Kathleen Kennedy.

So let's stop with the Disney bashing. For all intensive purposes, they did the right thing. Let Lucasfilm run itself and it can make money for the parent company w/o needing to micromanage the organization.

So you thought that part was cool? When they were flying through fucking SPACE (which has no gravity) but still had to get their space bombers literally OVER the dreadnaught to DROP bombs that look like WWII era bombs onto it using the gravity that doesn’t exist? Oh but an intersectional character sacrificed herself to do it so it works!

First of all, the name 'Dreadnought' is already reminiscent of the huge battleships between the UK and Germany during the WWI (and II) eras and thus, the entire setup was to replay that whole bombing away of a supersized vessel in the absence of any localized gravity.

Yes, it was an anachronistic attempt at showing Poe to be a loose cannon, sacrificing lives in return for one sunken supersized Bismarck vessel.

I'm kind of with NuttB on this one. I think you guys are looking a bit too much into a movie. Enjoy it or don't. It's fiction. You can make up anything you want.

I get the SJW angle, but they're just trying to make a movie that will appeal to the largest audience. Men, even the one's bitching about the movie here, are already locked into Star Wars. You know you're going to watch this movie in some format and Disney will make money off it. If they can get women more interested in Star Wars, that's a shit load more money. Star Wars has never been about making GOOD movies if you're being objective. It's just business.

Nope, I can get the full summary from wikipedia and the highlights from someone making clips on the 'net, criticizing the segments. I will not watch this movie and thus, Disney Inc/Lucasfilm won't get a penny out of me.

That's why I want a Solo like failure to torpedo the Kathleen Kennedy Dreadnought.

If they

One more time, there's not this 'they' in this fiasco.

It's a singular person with the name of Kathleen Kennedy. It's a 'she' and yes, 'she' thinks she can get more women interested in Star Wars by turning it into a Femi-Nazi/SJW propaganda piece than a Sci-Fi drama about plausibility and a hero's or heroine's journey.

After the abortion of a film that last one was, i have lost what little interest in the series I ever had. It was always silly pulp fiction, more of a space western than anything else. But what made it WORK was Lucas’ strict adherence to Joseph Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey” story structure. It told an age old story of a young man’s quest for significance, to right a dystopian wrong, to battle oppression as he comes into his natural gifts through hard work and sacrifice, helped along with an older mentor. In the second original film, we learned that the great evil Luke was fighting was a product of his own origin story, that he would have to resist a generational ideology to seek the good...or accept it and lose all chance to change things for the better.
And the third was a story of redemption.
I actually liked the prequels, the third most of all because it showed how a passionate young man with boundless talent could be seduced with impossible choices into choosing the darkest evil over the noble...how blind adherence to fleeting cares could lead one to ultimate destruction.
It was a damned good story, if a bit dark. And it neatly set the stage for the original trilogy, making Luke’s journey all the more impactful as he worked to redeem his wayward father.
Compared to that sort of masterful storytelling, the last trilogy is a mashup mess, and not worth watching. The first one was long on nostalgia, short on the Hero’s Journey. Rey just appears and is perfect from the start. She don’t need training... she just is a master Jedi already as soon as she is told she is. So lame.
49   WookieMan   2019 Dec 18, 4:57pm

Then don't watch it. Not sure what else to say. It's likely to gross $1B worldwide like the others have. Kathleen Kennedy will likely not go anywhere (I'm not a supporter). They will still sell toys and Disneyland(world) tickets on the back of the movie to the tune of $120/pp to get into the theme park.

Lucasfilm will be like buying a $100k house today and it being worth $10M in 20 years. This is about money. No one in corporate cares about a storyline and most productions don't. They just hire the highest paid hunk or most titty inflated bad actress to star in their films. Movies have sucked for a decade now, maybe longer. I'm talking about everyone here, not just Disney. Movies suck. Netflix (Amazon, etc) type series' is where most the talent and good content has gone.

I'll see this one Monday afternoon with my kids and 6 beers (wife is driving). I'll give my honest report then.

Actually, toy sales have come nowhere close to either of the first two trilogies.

See my point about Solo and why I hope for 'Rise of Skywalker' to replay.

So you watch Star Wars expecting Kubrick's 2001!? I guess you also don't like Friday because it's not more like Boyz in da Hood? The comparison is ridiculous, and no critic would even attempt it. This is obviously just an excuse for you, and other bitter men to retaliate at a franchise because of your issues with women.

Go poke holes in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for the unrealistic shooting scenes. Or Pulp Fiction for almost every scene. Totally unrealistic movies, so they must be trash..

I wouldn't and that's because I'm not some 17 year old who's never laid pipe before.

Remember, I'd been with French-Canadian babes so my standards are a bit higher than some guy pining over a lost love back in school. I believe Rey is suppose to represent that college aged upstart.
55   steverbeaver   2019 Dec 19, 8:19pm

Hmm. There's a thought. Instead of adding extra scenes years later they just enhance Rey's TnA. It might make a profit!
56   socal2   2019 Dec 21, 9:19am

I saw the movie yesterday.

No spoilers.

I really enjoyed it and think It is easily the best of the new movies and prequels. It fixes alot of Rian Johnson's mess and the overall story arc makes sense and was satisfying to me. There was no overtly feminist or SJW shit that I could tell (geesh - low bar!). It was a really fun and fast moving movie. They could have made it into 2 movies.
57   Shaman   2019 Dec 21, 10:28am

Thanks for the review socal2.
Anyone else take the plunge? I really don’t trust paid critic reviewers. Bunch of sissy idiots.

Is it true they had homosexual scene at the end with women kissing?
59   Rin   2019 Dec 23, 7:00pm

Ok, opening weekend is over and it's grossed some ~$376M worldwide.

In other words, it's not a flop and Kathleen Kennedy gets to keep her job.

Yes. It was literally a flash though. Probably under a second and I could not make out who it was.

Saw it yesterday with my boys and that was the one take away where I was like WTF with regard to FW's quote above. That said, Star Wars has always been glorified and the movies are average at best. This one is the same. You'll be entertained and if you want to find the negatives that suite your beliefs you might be able to find them. I didn't notice overtly SJW type stuff as socal2 mentions. Solid, entertaining movie to burn time over xmas break if you have it.

I'll have to watch it again in the comfort of my own home to get a final ruling on it. Anyone here have a home theater? Was looking into upgrading the sound to Atmos, wasn't sure if it was worth it. I hate public theaters and have only been to one or two Atmos theaters. So don't have much experience with it. Was looking for a 5.2.4 setup if anyone has something similar or any other suggestions.
61   RC2006   2019 Dec 24, 10:16am

I saw it and it was the best one of this trilogy for what its worth. Rotten tomatoes critic vs user review just show how most critics are liberals.
62   Rin   2019 Dec 28, 5:40pm

Ok, as of this weekend, 'Rise of Skywalker' is almost at ~$600M globally and it's not petering out, if you look at this chart ...

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Star-Wars-The-Rise-of-Skywalker-(2019)#tab=box-office

For all intensive purpose, this film is a hit and will secure Kathleen Kennedy's spot at the helm.
63   Shaman   2019 Dec 28, 7:31pm

It’s almost like the film opened modestly with a lot of fans on the fence about seeing it. Then, after reports that JJ Abrams fixed it and the SJW stuff is gone, the fans are finally getting around to seeing it.
64   Patrick   2019 Dec 28, 7:41pm

I just don't want to be preached at or manipulated if I'm paying to see a movie.

Paying should mean that I'm the customer, not merely another target for indoctrination.

Hollywood won't stop with this kind of crap until people refuse to pay.

Pat, it's too late. Somehow, someway, ppl bought into the return of Palpatine and a completely unbelievable story line, after the fiasco which was 'The Last Jedi'.

I've gotten enough spoiler info to reconstruct the entire 'Rise of Skywalker' w/o giving Kathleen Kennedy a penny. The story is retarded and basically, tosses the closure of 'Return of the Jedi' into the gutter forever, making all of the prior Star War movies, meaningless.

I don't know, I'm sure I'll get pushback. You guys are acting like McDonalds is a Michelin top rated restaurant with the Star Wars franchise. I look at as entertainment and frankly entertainment for children and teens. Basically a quick meal at McDonalds to fill them up. I was never expecting Alinea from it for me, basically a top end restaurant.

The over analyzing the storyline is getting nauseating too. It's science fiction. The original movies are as ridiculous if not more than these new ones or the other reboot movies. If you want to look for it, there's as much SJW bullshit in the originals as there is now. There are PLENTY of other movies that are far worse with regards to the SJW agenda yet people are so focused on these new ones.

Not saying you have to enjoy it or even watch it, but some of the reasons for boycotting it are retarded. Disney bought a franchise that was geared towards boys. They have shareholders. Even if they lose 20% of men and boys, they'll potentially gain that with girls/women and create other fans that will watch more feminine movies or series related to Star Wars.

If one thinks they're smarter than Disney execs, then go apply... nothing is stopping you since we're all running massive production companies here on patnet.

There are several things going on, sure, ppl need to make money. That's the world we live in.

And at the same time, there's also this aspect of culture. In terms of culture, what the original 'Star Wars: A New Hope' was, was the hero's journey for everyone interested in Sci-Fi/Fantasy who was born between let's say 1970 to 1980. Yes, it was a generational thing and many of us were inspired by those films as a result.

I probably would have studied accounting, instead of applied chemistry, if it weren't for 'Star Wars'. And yes, you wouldn't know about me today, if that were to have happened.

I would have been a cynic, from birth, thinking that money was the only thing which mattered, versus adventuring into the stars and developing the sciences for humanity.

Sure, today, I know that those were lies and that we're run by shithead corporate cronies and garbage CEOs/CFOs/COOs/CIOs, etc, but if I thought that way as a kid, what would make me different from let's say a serial killer who cares nothing for anyone at all?

You see, that's the legacy of the original Star Wars. It made us better ppl. It made us want to strive for things, not just having them handed to us on a platform with nonsense like women are born perfect and that men are garbage w/o their guidance.

You're clearly younger than several of us. I wouldn't say they are SJW just because they had minorities and a strong woman. That's fine. These latest films are full on SJW shit. I'm not going to go pay to see the new movie. I'll 'pick up' a copy and watch though now that the feedback here says they fixed some stuff so I don't have to pay to be indoctrinated into the Leftist bullshit.

Not paying until KK is fired.

Question: Where are the Males in millennial/gen-z movies? I don't mean pussies running around with dicks I mean manly men that boys can look up to as role models. I can't think of one. Where is a Han's solo or a Dirty Harry (or John Wayne for the older folks)?

Question: Where are the comedians? I don't mean women standup, that shit isn't funny. I mean real comedians that are millennial or gen-z?

This is kind of my point. Everyone is so hung up on the purple haired cunt in The Last Jedi. They're focused on gravity in a sci-fi flick that has defied gravity since it's origination but somehow it's a problem now because of purple hair. Poe is an ass hole in all the movies and I love it. Even the black guy kills his woman sounding former storm trooper boss. Not saying you guys are wrong, I just don't see it being as egregious as many commenters here.

Honest answer: DAD is your role model. Movies are for entertainment. If my kids look up to movies or sports stars, then I'm likely dead or had a brain injury.

And yes, I'm younger(ish) and have admitted so here (36). These movies have zero impact on my two boys lives, originals or reboot trilogies. Literally nothing besides entertainment. If you want to get upset about the female reboot of Ghostbusters, guess what, I'm on that train. These Star Wars movies are an absolute nothing burger in the attempt to feminize and neuter guys compared to what else is out there. They're looking to grab an extra 5-10% market share with women into the franchise.

I'll close with this. In Guam We Trust.

My dad was a jerk, so there goes that story.

And in effect, when Luke redeemed his own father at the end of 'Return of the Jedi' (1:29 to 2:00), believe it or not, it gave me hope as well.

Unfortunately, that relationship never resolved itself, like it did for Luke.

Ms Lesbo didn't tell anyone of her plan and treated Poe like he was a common criminal when in fact, Poe was the only one, sticking his neck out for the so-called resistance, rebellion, or whatever that motley crew thought it was.

And yes, when her plan was laid out, it was as stupid of a plan as anyone with a pair of binoculars or even 20/20 vision, could see small vessels exiting to the nearby planet.

Yes, because we have dysfunctional households (FYI, my own family) and single moms, all over the place.

With that, the "clan" influence is very anti-male and somehow, kids only have things like Star Wars or Star Trek to look up to and now, both of those franchises are SJW and anti-male at their respective cores.

Just yesterday, I was at a restaurant where all the ladies at an adjacent table were yapping while the silent guys were quietly playing with their smart phones. Seriously, that's where our society is going, men are being reduced to gamers and eunuchs.

Saw Rise of Skywalker the other day, LOVED IT! They stuck to the main story, no side-quests, and some pretty cool reveals about the dark side. And the ending was perfect, didn't try to replicate the Ewok village celebration, which was a great call.
79   FortwayeAsFuckJoeBiden   2019 Dec 30, 10:49am

Hollywood lives in a social bubble, lots of gay and feminist influences that keep pouring in, and eventually those left wing lobbying groups get their way.
80   Rin   2020 Jan 2, 5:24pm

As of today, 'Rise of Skywalker' has hit $815M globally.

Now that the holiday season is wrapping up, this movie has already done too well, to in any way or form, be considered a flop. It'll easily top the $1B mark and level off somewhere in that exalted zone between 'Dark Knight Rises' and 'The Avengers'.

In effect, this is the fourth 'Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls', a stupid, idiotic film which still grossed $786M. Remarkable, considering what a joke that was against any of the films near 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.
81   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2020 Jan 2, 7:52pm

Haven’t seen rise of sky walker yet. It’s entirely due to the fetid turd that was the last Jedi.

However, The Mandalorian is amazing. Everything Star Wars is supposed to be. Interesting characters, cool space scenes, mysterious stories.

I hope disney learned it’s lesson about shoveling sjw garbage down our throats.
