Iraq, the country we destroyed and dumped our nuclear waste in. Well I'm sure we can believe any Iran-backed movement purported to come out of that country is completely legit and not another psyops excuse for use to attack Iran.

The Trump Tax Cuts got us exactly the same GDP growth rate trend we’ve had for decades:

Appreciate the graphs. What do you think the solution is? This is one of the issues I've had with Trump. The "solutions" in the Dem. party right now are only going to worsen the trend. The candidates are absolute shit and everyone knows it, so people just keep attacking Trump instead of focusing on stuff like this.
107680   mell   2019 Dec 31, 2:26pm

These Fred graphs aren't very useful. Obviously the growth has been prolonged already by 2 years and UE is at historic lows while wage increases for the lower income folks have accelerated. Prior recessions happened every 8 years roughly. So graph 1 actually speaks for Trump. It's true that ZIRP and deficit spending by itself doesn't help but that's not the only actions that were taken. Overall Trump has outdone his predecessors significantly.

True, nobody President since Reagan has been associated with that kind of increasing debt in a time of supposedly awesome economic growth. But it was much different then, at least there was room for interest rates to drop steadily for a couple decades but we didn't know that - so I considered and still consider the epic debt binge that Reagan started to be a huge mistake - and what history will probably show as one of the biggest causes of our current problems.

No, not to your narrative they aren't.

And, while we were promised the tax cuts would entirely pay for themselves, they certainly have not:

In most universes Tax Reciepts have little to do with spending (can you read the graphs ?)

But sure spending is a big factor too.

Should have paired cuts in taxes with cuts in spending, but may be I'm just being old fashioned and we can borrow and spend ourselves into prosperity

If you think about it, Hillary being President would have been so much better for us, becasue the repulbicans would be constantly on her about bringing the deficits down. That would be their biggest weapon, to keep her from getting any programs she wanted, and they in tern wouldn't get what they wanted.

It's kind of perverse if you think about it, but republican hatred for Hillary might have actually been what the government needed to keep corruption down.

Instead what we have is a swampfest free for all, with plenty of corruption scandals and assinine behavior in the Executive branch to distract us.

The democrats should currently be doing of what you describe. They SHOULD be criticizing ongoing wars, increased war spending, and increased deficits.

But nah... somewhere a middle aged crazy woman says kavanaugh touched her 50 years ago so the dems have better things to worry about.

Might be dreaming but I suspect Twump might do that in a 2nd term. Along with new tax cuts. No way he could do that in the 1st and get re-elected.

Trump is a politician. Only way he lowers spending (i.e. lowering his own influence) is if he is forced to do so.

I'd like to see an executive order that military spending (at least) cant go up if we cut taxes.

Trump does get credit for not starting new wars, and perhaps he will get credit for ending these. BUT if he doesnt end these wars his increase in bombing and war spending will be difficult to rationalize.

It's really too bad the dems focus on impeachment nonsense rather than war/deficits.
107700   Al_Sharpton_for_President   2020 Jan 1, 8:01am

Debt can be disappeared by the Fed. We are in an economic war with China, and so we will match bad behavior with bad behavior. Malinvestment is the price to pay in our capitalistic system to enable legitimate business investment. Of course there is inflation, but as long as the basics are within the grasp of the unwashed masses, no revolution.

We already had that, tried it for 8 years of massive massive deficits and incredible spending. Sure we had Republicans occasionally getting interested in budgeting and decreasing the deficit, but mostly they just signed on to the YUUUGE budgets because The Economy!
And they hated Obama every bit as much as they hated Hillary.
So yah, that’s been tried and it didn’t work.
The solution to this problem is still to be found.
