Anyone wants to risk a bet on the eventual number of sick people? Dead people?

I do think this bot has a human that intervenes from time to time though. Some of the responses are impossible to program.

I think you're right.

BEIJING, CHINA -- China on Monday declared an immediate and "comprehensive" ban on the trade and consumption of wild animals, a practice believed responsible for the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

The country's top legislative committee approved a proposal "prohibiting the illegal wildlife trade, abolishing the bad habit of overconsumption of wildlife, and effectively protecting the lives and health of the people," state television reported.

Previous temporary bans have been put in place, including after the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) virus killed hundreds of people in China and Hong Kong in 2002-03 and was also traced to wild animal consumption.

Even the propaganda arm of the globalist Democrats, the NY Times, has to admit that coronavirus is a threat to their beloved project of destroying all national borders for the sake of global capital:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/25/opinion/coronavirus-cases-spread.html

Liberals have partisan incentives that run the other way, toward emphasizing the White House’s unpreparedness in the face of a clear and present threat. But these incentives have so far been outweighed by liberalism’s ideological bias toward global openness, its anxiety about saying or doing anything that might give aid and comfort to anti-globalization forces, its fear of ever sounding too, well, Trump-y in the face of foreign threats. Thus the liberal instinct toward minimization: It’s not much worse than the flu, panicking makes things only worse, don’t spread conspiracy theories about its origins, racism toward Chinese people is the real danger here.

I wonder if a glass or two of red wine helps prevent coronavirus the way it helps to prevent other flus.

This is good new for wild animals.

Go for three to be safe 😉 unless you're a light weight.

A bottle a day helps to keep coronavirus away.

Now cases popping up in Spain and Switzerland.

Now cases popping up in Germany, Austria and Algeria, after Italians came to these countries.

This means probably thousands infected in Italy.

Yep. And the graph of the number of infected over time will look like hokey stick!

Well if it is 10% = 700 millions.
20% of that are severe or critical disease, = 140 millions showing up at hospitals.
How many hospital beds are there in the US?
239   Heraclitusstudent   2020 Feb 26, 9:43am

Today Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan, Lebanon, Brazil, Algeria, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, France, Greece, Finland, North Macedonia.... all have cases reported.

Let them die. What else are you going to do? Vast majority of deaths are older people. They've already lived a good life. I've heard that a good amount of people infected have zero symptoms of anything. What sells more?

Cancer kills much more people, yet we just live with it and the NFL puts on pink shoes and gloves in October. The media is bored and trying to get ad sales. This is really all this is as sick as that sounds.

I'll venture a prediction: there will be cases popping up like this in the Bay Area within 2 weeks.

Should have said 2 days: One Individual from Solano County is receiving medical care at UC Davis Medical Center.
Contamination is from unknown origin. Meaning sick people are walking around in CA.

So what? Even in China with the massive spike numbers are falling now. It may very well become a seasonal occurrence, but this whole drama around it is utter bullshit. What's real is the supply chain disruption. 60 people total were diagnosed so far of which only 15 originated in the US - a country of 330 million people. There will be a slight spike followed by a drop-off to seasonal re-occurrence. Meanwhile heart diseases and cancer and car accidents and the flu - currently at its peak - kill millions and nobody cares.
249   mell   2020 Feb 26, 9:42pm

This year's influenza has already killed over 15000 people in the US alone - get outta here ;)
250   Heraclitusstudent   2020 Feb 26, 9:50pm

The mortality rate of flu is less than 0.1%, against 2% for that virus. And 20% cases are serious.
251   Misc   2020 Feb 27, 2:37am

The number of available beds at hospitals is remarkably low, as most beds are in use for other ailments. Even a modest increase in the number of patients means that, yes, just like in China, you'll get a cot at a local high school gym.
252   RC2006   2020 Feb 27, 3:16am

I heard that infants have been pretty resilient against virus. Wondering in the case of China the 2% mortality has more to do with a comorbidity of age, smoking, respiratory issues, and overall health. Hopefully this virus is more like normal flu for healthy people.

You're gathering 90% of the data from the Chinese though. So admittedly numbers could be worse, but their health care is likely worse. They very much copy others medical fields/care and then half ass it like their knock off products that suck. You can't compare an apple to a watermelon. What are their death rates for typical influenza? If they're to be believed.....

If the US get 20k cases and the mortality rate is higher than 2%, then maybe, maybe I'd get concerned. Until then, ratings have dropped since impeachment is over, there's no compelling story with the democrats, the economy is doing fine, etc. There's really just nothing going on big story wise, so the media has taken something and gotten overhyped about it. It happens.

TV networks, media companies don't sell positive news and they need to sell something right now. This is a good story for them to run with. Every single real estate broker was telling you in 2006/07 that it was the best time to buy..... just like every time something like this happens the media makes it out to be a plague that is going to wipe out half the world. Believe what you want, but it's undoubtedly overhyped.

Notice also, that the Hong Kong protests are out of the news.
257   WookieMan   2020 Feb 27, 8:30am

Yup. 70+ year old people die. I'd also guess most of them were within a year of death anyway due to other health reasons (cancer, smoking, etc.).

It's the fucking flu and it doesn't even seem to infect the little ones which is a positive and is rarely mentioned. Have a neighbor and friend that lost a 2 year old from influenza. She's a nurse. She's not at all concerned about this. People gotta stop freaking out. Be concerned about supply chain issues, but people dying a year earlier is of minimal concern and that's for only 2% of the population...
258   HeadSet   2020 Feb 27, 8:34am

Remember that heat wave in France a few years back that killed over 10,000?

You knew it was coming:

Since the dawn of the Trump era, countless experts have warned that the president's lack of credibility would imperil the country in the event of an emergency.

As the coronavirus outbreak worsens, those fears may be coming true... https://t.co/vFo8MJZV7i
