Now at lowest points since March 23.
"Cases" mean nothing at all now that we know they were adding in antibody tests, meaning people who may have been exposed months ago, and not even gotten sick.
But there is a lot of anecdotal stories about hospital cases being way up, ICUs being at or close to capacity and so on. But evidently either they have learned how to treat them (not HCQ), or the virus is getting less lethal which wouldn't be surprising. I think it's probably mostly the latter.

This is where the breakdown occurs. I know some here have pumped up certain drugs. Why can't we all just align for once and agree that deaths are down. Who gives a fuck about the treatment? Who cares about the cases? Less people are dying. This is good. We're that much closer to not being retarded and being locked down. I know the left and right hates being locked down. Right?
Patrick saysI sure hate being locked down.
Then move - not every state is like CA.

Even within the same state it's different. There's no enforcement mechanism, because they know they can't. Flying to Utah in a couple weeks. Chicago has implemented a 14 day "mandatory" quarantine once you return, with fines up to $7k/pp. No joke. And they then admit they have no one to enforce it. Our government is playing completely fucked up mind games. It's sick. I don't live in Chicago, how the fuck are you going to enforce that?
A family of 4 and we're bringing a nephew, so 5 total could be fined fucking $35k for doing a southwest National Park trip? Mainly outdoors doing things that young boys need to do. WTF is wrong with this world? Right or left, how can someone not see the pure stupidity of it all? It's probably the goal, but I'm close to getting violently mad at the next person that shames me. Not kill, just maybe a quick sucker punch.
Agreed it's messing with our vacation plans as well
mell saysAgreed it's messing with our vacation plans as well
I'm at 4 trips cancelled at this point. 2 in the past and 2 in the future. I fly Southwest with points so it's free and we can do it frequently as a family with 2 companion passes. It's mentally a mind fuck. I've got this currency to travel and can't even fucking use it and there's nothing else to do. Can work remotely. It's nuts.
And yes, the death reporting will bump back up during the week. 7 day moving average is still going down. There's no excuse anymore.
most of the older and nursing home patients (thanks cuomo) unfortunately already expired. The new infections are mostly younger adults and they add on to the ultimate goal of herd immunity. I expect death rates to stay fairly low with occasional swings until deaths almost vanish completely.
Patrick you can get great weekday rates in Sonoma/Napa, usually around $120 in hotels with pool. I go up there as much as I can with the convertible. Also people are more relaxed up there, hardly any mask nazi lockdown leftoids.
I think it's probably mostly the latter.
marcus saysI think it's probably mostly the latter.
Maybe, but its spreading amongst healthier people...rather than the targeted nursing home attacks from the northeastern death-dealing governors.
A common cold virus can have a death rate as high as 8% inside a nursing home
Wouldn't it be accurate to say if the numbers (deaths alone) are correct, that it's now the worst it has been ?

Also this wave wasn’t deliberately seeded into the nursing homes where the absolute most vulnerable reside. Maybe they’ve all been moved by now?

This is California’s second wave, and it’s about four times as large. I’m hearing about many people I know who have it. Better treatments have led to better outcomes with the infected. Also this wave wasn’t deliberately seeded into the nursing homes where the absolute most vulnerable reside. Maybe they’ve all been moved by now?
In the first wave you didn’t know anyone with Covid, but oldsters were dying.
Now everyone else is getting it. It’s nothing to fear. Get you some HCQ and a steroid asthma inhaler and get some rest and you’ve got a 99.9% chance of not being hospitalized.

I have no close relatives in nursing homes, but if I had I would absolutely move them into my home and hired a private nurse to look after them. I suspect many people did just that.
I know 4 people who now lost parents. Here's the problem. Our asshole governor in NJ sent infected patients straight into the nursing homes they were in. All of these people are in their late 40s to early 50s with parents 80+ years old. Presumably, on a percentage basis, my guess is 15% of my coworkers contracted it. Nobody died. It's very clear who is at risk here and we should do all we can to protect them outside of fucking shutting down society...which is the only things governments seem to want to do.
This was totally mishandled. And those governors have the gall to attack the federal response
You'd be surprised. There were many people here in NJ calling up the radio or going to the news saying how scared they were for their mother in the nursing home. Meanwhile, they have 5 siblings that all live local and they are too lazy to figure out how to take care of them.
Cognitive Dissonance:
Cognitive Dissonance: The motivational mechanism that underlies the reluctance to admit mistakes or accept scientific findings
Cognitive Dissonance: The motivational mechanism that underlies the reluctance to admit mistakes or accept scientific findings—even when those findings can save our lives. This dynamic is playing out during the pandemic among the many people who refuse to wear masks or practice social distancing. Human beings are deeply unwilling to change their minds. And when the facts clash with their preexisting convictions, some people would sooner jeopardize their health and everyone else’s than accept new information or admit to being wrong.
It's not good, but it's hardly a horrible catastrophe either

Okay, you can spin it, share your conspiracy based "reasoning" saying they must be lying. I'm just looking at the data which says that the average of the past week (new deaths) in California appears to be about 40% higher than any week since this started.
I get from you mell and others that you want to just dismiss this.
TD is right.

OR maybe you are. But wanting to be right doesn't tell anyone much about whether you are.

Marcus, if private employees get laid off without pay and only unemployment, shouldn't the same happen to teachers if schools stay closed?
Or are teachers more equal than others?
Note: Two days of virtual classes and three days of self-directed homework at home != 5 days of instruction.
