As a Massachusetts resident, I woefully disagree.

In 1988, Governor Dukakis was considered soft on crime and a Taxachusetts Democrat. Since then, believe it or not, but Mass residents have been electing mostly Republican governors (Bill Weld, Paul Cellucci, Mitt Romney, etc) to balance against the Democratic legislature.

In fact, for a Mass local, Dukakis lost counties in central Mass and much of Cape Cod to Bush Senior, winning a paltry 53% of the overall state (since Boston metro has the highest population density, which he swept) whereas in contrast, John Kerry, another Mass local, won every county in the state against Bush Junior, pulling out with 62%, a very decisive win for a state, rural or Boston metro.

So yes, Biden may be the next Dukakis but it looks like everyone's wary of him having a tank moment, ala Dementia, so they're controlling the cameras on him so that Trump can't flame him the way Bush Senior did to Dukakis

Dukakis was lame. He not only looked mentally deficient(really, could you take that face seriously?) ... but was the real deal. The fact that he couldn't even carry all the counties in MA really tells you something.

I knew of a lot of ppl in central & western Mass who called him a complete fraud. Tax and spend governor but then, don't support our public colleges because we already have a place called Harvard. (Yes, he actually said that when I was a kid) And then, taking credit for Ted Kennedy's work in bringing defense money, to support hi-tech in the Bay State. Yes, Dukakis created a faux campaign based upon an economic miracle which wasn't even his accomplishment.

While I won't completely diss his environmental record but still, the dumping into Boston Harbor didn't really end until Bill Weld was in office. So yeah, he's not even an Al Gore light.

So despite being a complete joke, he got some 41M votes versus Bush Senior's 48M votes. So I don't think America has a problem with Greeks; America has a problem with idiots.

Kennedy was the first Catholic President, but at least he had a White sounding name.

Catholics were political minorities in Federal Politics, even if they dominated local politics. But there was no way a Catholic Latin European Last name was going to be President until at least the middle 90's. Enough of the old school constituents that was a show stopper for died off. The hanging chad offenders were the last of that voting group.

America was predominantly Protestant and Baptist, Catholics with their Saint worshiping was seen as kooky and pagan to the collective American Christian constituency.
