I'm tired of the endless violent leftists who register and then deliberately try to piss people off here, not to mention the dozens of daily spam registrations.

So I've made invitation by email request only. If any of you regulars mail me the email address of a friend who wants to join and copy that person, then good, they're in (unless I know for a fact that have been previously booted for being an asshole).

Also, anyone can just mail me personally if they don't know another user on the forum and want to join, but I'll be a lot more skeptical of that if I don't know them at all.

I will only recommend folks who swear on a stack of bibles that they will vote for Trump ( not counting sleepy Joe)

No, everyone can still read it without registering.

I’d like to share posts and articles here. But I cannot since registration is required.

I don't know what you mean @Fortwaynemobile

You can share posts and articles and anyone can read them.

I added this to the About page:

No registration is required to read the site. Reading is open to all.

I guess that wasn't clear.

I don't want a private club just a place where I can vent and rage against the system! with privacy.

Thanks @patrick Many of us know the opportunities you miss by being out there.

Hey Libs....just read....you may learn something...never too late....or is it?

I'm okay with name changes. Some people are pretty creative and it's easy enough to figure out. Account changes are the losers.

Had to look up my account. 11 years as a member. How long has this website been active?
16   Hircus   2020 Oct 13, 9:12pm

Keeping up on name changes have been tough for me too.

Is the exclusive club a temporary thing until the election is over, or permanent? If permanent, I worry the user base and post volume will atrophy with time.

I got the domain name back in 1996 or so and it was just my personal thoughts for a while.

In 2004 I started writing about the Bay Area housing market.

In 2005 I started taking comments.
18   NuttBoxer   2020 Oct 13, 9:26pm

Spam accounts are certainly an issue to code around, but not left/right rantings. Everyone has a right to their opinion, whether I like it or not. If you can't deal with someone from the other side of your false paradigm, I suggest going somewhere else to find your safe space...

Dunno, want to see how it goes.

I really do suspect some people are paid to disrupt forums like this.

I didn't know it was called a bubble, but I was explaining the Housing inflation and idiots taking out loans they could never pay back, around 2005 or 2006.
I had a coworker, I don't know how he found the place, but he was a lurker. He showed me the place and I've been here since.

He re-posted HIllary's Russia hoax just yesterday:

Two concerns:
1)this is a largely anonymous forum and many post here because of anonymity. Making new users have to know the identity of a current user breaks that wall.
2)User name changes can be annoying, so making their old user names visible on their about page would be helpful. I have changed my user name last year, and I did include my former one in my self description.
27   Patrick   2020 Oct 14, 8:55am

Well, you don't have to invite anyone to the forum.

A fair number of us have already met in peson.

I could add a new database table like:

namechanges
===========
namechange_id
namechange_datetime
namechange_user_id
namechange_old_name
namechange_new_name

And then show that on the user's profile page.

Perfect in my world, but not my site. Also wanna say that I know some username changes are a joke of what is goin on in current times. Issue is if I disappear for a week or two, I'm like who the fuck is this when I come back. And I'll be honest that I communicate differently with different users in some cases. So it can create confusion. Next week I'll likely be on one of those breaks unless the weather is bad.
29   Tenpoundbass   2020 Oct 14, 10:07am

I've always been transparent with my name changes, also I don't change my posting style or put on another front that how I usually post.
I don't game the name change for any dishonest purpose to support a previous moniker.

Most call me out with in the first few hours of me changing my name.

Who else posts a screed about dumb Liberal millennials and call them a shitbird?

Are we going to be assigned smoking jackets and padded Victorian lounge chairs?
31   Ceffer   2020 Oct 14, 12:06pm

Will we have an open market and transferable equity stake in our membership?
32   Ceffer   2020 Oct 14, 12:18pm

When I leave heirs my Patnet membership in my will, does it include all ignores past and present, or does it start out with a clean slate?

Yes, as it is a men-only club afaict.

Ceffer says

Of course! You can sell your membership for whatever you can get for it. But if you sell it to an asshole, I may ban him.

It does not ignore the ignores.

Can I incorporate my Patnet membership and issue shares?
35   Ceffer   2020 Oct 14, 12:23pm

Are Patnet memberships guaranteed Covid free, or will monogrammed masks be issued?
36   Patrick   2020 Oct 14, 12:23pm

Absolutely. All members should be issuing shares of their memberships and attempting to juice their value.

Masks are explicitly forbidden on patrick.net.

This is a fear-free zone.
38   Ceffer   2020 Oct 14, 12:28pm

If I make AF chairman of the board of my Patnet Membership Corporation, will he still be in censorship limbo, or can I use him to add market value? (Yes, it will be an LLC).

You haven't changed in quite a while. I'd recognize your style as well, or at least I think I would. It would just be good to know who is who. I recall in the past I thought Patrick had an alias feature based on IP address. Obviously that can be circumnavigated by a VPN, but at least if you keep the same email, we could see the past usernames. The quoted stuff doesn't change to the new name, so it's hard on some of these multi-page threads.

I've changed mine a few times, it's all for fun.

It's an annoyance and a pet peeve for me. Doesn't ruin my day by any stretch. Just confusing sometimes. With Covid I've been around more frequently, so not so much an issue right now. But usually there are times where I'm out for 7-21 days checking the site and come back and it looks like a bunch of new users. I'm like "cool" and then recognize the style (in some cases) and know who it is and that they just changed their name.

Honestly not a big deal at the end of the day. Just would be nice if taking a break for travel I knew who users were if they existed previously. I generally don't use ignore, so if someone that I don't like to engage with changes their name, I may not know. And then I trash a thread that I'd usually ignore because of the user. Takes away from others experience or maybe in entertains people. I don't know.

I think I'll use AF's standard, by having original name in front of the new to help identify easier.

Lol. Not a bad idea. @Patrick - maybe just do that? I actually really like that idea.

And so I'm not sounding bitchy, I do like some of the name changes. I get the fun around it. As with any relationship, you avoid certain people and are drawn towards certain people. When you all a sudden don't know who is who, it can be weird.

Patrick is the flaming sword, protecting us from the election cycle onslaught of Chinese, Dem and CIA Decepticon and Propaganda Bots!
