I was not into guns at all despite living in Texas and most of my neighbors possessing huge arsenals. Then, the scamdemic lockdowns started, I could hear occasional gunshots at night, and situation seemed to deteriorate, and I made a common-sense purchase of a shotgun, ammunition for it, and a gun safe. After that, why not buy a few handguns? And then why not a rifle or two or three? Then, why not get a concealed carry permit and go to a range on an occasional Sunday?

I blame Democrats and lockdown supporters for my only addiction.

Sincerely,

a non-recovering gunaholic

I don't own a gun -- yet.

@Patrick,

after you buy the first one and go shooting with it, you will have an urge to buy second one..then third..then fourth...and so on.

My advice: buy a big gun safe when you buy your first gun. I am now at limits of my gun safe (3 handguns + 6 long guns, 15 months after buying my first gun), and I regret not buying a bigger gun safe...

Take her to a shooting range. My wife likes target shooting, so this was a way how to weasel her into "gun culture" (+ nearly all neighbors owning guns). She gets annoyed only with quantity of guns, not about fact that we have them at our house...
52   Patrick   2021 Jun 9, 1:00pm

I once took her shooting at the ROTC range when we were still in Ann Arbor after college. The first time she picked up the rifle she grabbed it by the trigger and it went off. It was pointed down range and the bullet bounced off the floor, no harm done. But it freaked her out, so it might be hard to get her to go again. Still, it's a good suggestion, thanks.

rifle

Revolver, and preferably with 22lr ammunition, and double action. Easier to operate, less noise, does not jump when shooting, etc. After people shoot first time without any accidents, many start liking it. Also, choose target with just circles and not a human silhouette - the latter puts off a lot of womyn.
54   Patrick   2021 Jun 9, 1:11pm

Thanks, another good tip. I can imagine that women would not want to be shooting at human silhouettes. It would fit with the large inherent differences between male and female psychology.
55   Onvacation   2021 Jun 9, 1:15pm

I handed my best friend my Ruger Redhawk with four 44 special and one 44 magnum rounds loaded. He was real surprised when he got to the magnum. Don't try this with your wife or friends that don't know how to shoot. Matter of fact, don't try this at all. I was much younger.

56   Onvacation   2021 Jun 9, 1:17pm

With ear plugs AND muffs that gun would give me a concussion headache.

Many BA gun ranges now prohibit anything even remotely resembling a human silhouette as a target.

I don't think the "pandemic" caused buying lots of ammo.
I think it was Black Lives Matter and cops being intimidated along with riots, etc
I need to go blasting soon, have some fun.

I also bought my first gun during the pandemic.

Glock19 from BassProShop in San Jose.

If no pandemic, I probably wouldn’t have bought one anytime soon.

Me too. I got a G19 at Turners Outdoorsman in San Marcos last year because of your thread.

No regrets at all. Just wish I could afford more ammo! I took the wife out to the range last month and she had a great time and was a good shot.

It was the BLM riots that pushed me to finally pull the trigger.

That - and I also got a $750 gift card for a work anniversary and wanted to buy a man toy.

If that woman can bag a couple squirrels AND make it into a stew, she would be a real asset when cannibal anarchy arrives.

She's a keeper!

Happy to hear that, hope you’ve enjoyed your Glock.

I still struggled to find access to the amount of ammo I want... 1000 rounds or so.

Daaaym Duuude! That's a hellava buying spree! I'm impressed! (and slightly envious but more impressed than envious)

It would be damn near impossible to buy that fast here in commieforina... That may be part of Pat's hesitation. Just the anticipation of the pain in the ass it is just to get the first one. Highly recommended to get that first one though.

Funny ass heart/brain comic too. It really suits your thread lol..

I am researching 2-3 more guns...fuuuck...it is kinda getting expensive.
Last long gun was SSG-04 which ain't cheap and I have not shot it yet.

Plus with all guns is that missus likes shooting as well, after initial complaining about wasting money.

BTW, one of my first was an SKS as well. Mine was Chinese though (barrel wasn't threaded) because I was poor. Gave it away in TX when I moved to CA b/c with all of my mods it was 3-4x illegal here. That guy sold it for 2x what I paid for it not 10 years after I bought it so ~2003 or so...
71   RWSGFY   2021 Jun 10, 9:15pm

Are you guys NRA members? If not, you really should join.

In CA it's also a good idea to join CRPA (https://crpa.org)

I was debating between Russian and Yugoslav SKS and settled on Russian.

NRA is not real popular in local tanned neck community, I have not asked them why.
74   SoTex   2021 Jun 10, 9:32pm

I think the people running the NRA embezzled a lot of money or some similar shit.

You mean the "suitegate"? It's a nothingburger.
78   steverbeaver   2021 Jun 11, 12:32am

There are many such as myself that regard the NRA as less about gun rights and more about lining pockets a.k.a. "Negotiating Rights Away". There are plenty of alternatives that do not cede an inch such as GOA, last time I checked.
79   clambo   2021 Jun 11, 5:31am

The NRA has revenues of over $300 million bucks per year.
They can file a lot of lawsuits with that money.
They don’t need my money, and they don’t get any.
80   RC2006   2021 Jun 11, 6:18am

NRA would be a lot better if they stopped sending out so much junk mail, raffles, and begging for money in general.

Do what I did... go down to BassPro in San Jose and get you a Glock19.

Be sure to practice on a regular basis if you plan to be a gun owner.

Get some dummy rounds (snap caps). As many as your clip can hold +1 and play around with your gun. Get used to handling it...just as important, even more so, than shooting it imo.

It is not recommended to dry fire your weapon. It can cause issues over time.

This is just basic affirmation of the inalienable natural rights listed in the second amendment. Essentially a state following the code/contract set forth in the constitution for the authority of the federal government to exist. If the several states don’t honor the codes they mandate the Federal government to honor, how can we expect the rule of law to be constitutional at any level?

It's mostly true for rimfire. Centerfire guns usually tolerate dry firing pretty well.

Glocks are extremely reliable and I do like my G21 a lot. I wish Glock used single action (SA) triggers instead of a striker fire system. I love how the SA 1911 shoots but they have a much lower capacity if they are chambered in 45 acp. I am actually looking for a good used 1911 chambered in 38 Super to get more capacity and better performance than the 9 mm. The 38 Super ballistics are very close to a 357 Magnum and it uses .357" bullets.

The CMMG Banshee in 9 mm uses Glock 19 magazines. This is also a great option to have in addition to the G19. I just hope the new ATF rule making for AR pistols fails or gets destroyed in court. I don't think SBRs are legal in California (pending final outcome of the 9th Circuit Court regarding ARs).
