All these wars do is fuck up the nation, screw up the people, cost the US taxpayers money, and impoverish the country in general and therefore weakens it further.

Well, that's not all they do.

They also make certain rich people much richer.

And those people decide these matters, not us:

Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial
independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no
independent influence.

Kyiv was the capital of the Russian empire starting in 882 and lasted until around the 13th century.

Isn't it odd nobody seems to be aware of this?

Saw this one, thought you will find it funny.

Fine the Russian kingdom then.
It was called "Kiev Rus". The Russia that you know appropriated a version of the name.

richwicks says

Really? Who gives a shit?
You apparently give a shit. You are the one who made this moronic claim, followed by a somewhat condescending remark.
It literally seems that you are using the proverbial FSB booklets - those designed to be manipulative, not accurate - for sources, and then spread around their wisdom. With predictable results.

richwicks says

Russia doesn't want any more NATO countries on its border.
You seem to be confused between NATO and EU. NATO had these last 8 years to get Ukraine if it wanted to. It apparently doesn't want to. If I had to guess, because it's already close enough (Latvia, Estonia), getting closer gives little if any strategic advantage.

However, if Russia consumes Ukraine, it then WILL get another NATO country at it's border. Four countries, in fact: Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia.

richwicks says

That's all it's fucking asking for.
Oh, how cute. "They are not bloodthirsty, they are just misunderstood."

Just post the fucking link. Don't make everybody jump through hoops each time. Just post the fucking link.

https://nitter.pussthecat.org/womensmarch/status/1495820119473336321

You know why our "news" doesn't post links to "sources" of documents they cite? Because they're lying. This is why you NEVER saw a link or even a quote from the Mueller Report when it has "proof" of Russian collusion.

It's CORRECT to assume that unless a link is posted, it's bullshit because 99% of the time, it is - especially when it's so trivial to post the goddamned link.

Oh, and I'll do one better:

I've archived it as well - although it's still indexing at the time I'm writing this.

Some people have to make everything fucking serious and humorless.

Allow people to verify facts. It's so annoying people post without references.

I was quite obsessive about fact checking the media at one point, until I realized they lie about literally almost everything. I guarantee that people that already decided that wasn't possibly true WOULDN'T verify it was true. I absolutely guarantee it.

I know it's a joke thread, I don't care. The purpose of communication is primarily to allow people to think and change minds in my opinion.

Haha, I find those two groups to be two mentally ill people that work out, but I'd still suggest therapy for each.

I did look up the href="https://www.patrick.net/post/1200568/?comment_id=1820950">links myself by the way. I always do when I'm curious. I also archived it in case the original post is corrected for the terrible math.

I hate it when Millennials make Boomer and Gen-X memes. They always get it wrong.
Gen Xers weren't born until 1965, the Cuban missle crisis happened in 1962,. It was my middle school teachers, that first told me about when they were in School they hid under the desks. We weren't even born yet.

I'm an Xer.

I have fond memories of bomb drills in elementary school going to a padded room in the basement (padded for the wrestlers who practiced there - I was in a K-12 all in one building school). Other times we would go to a basement hallway and sit against the wall when the padded room was already full. I can't remember when that silly shit stopped but it was before sixth grade. In hindsight it is kind of funny how normalized it was for us.

Did you live in Hawaii? We did fire drills constantly which I don't think schools do much anymore. But no bomb drills where we got under the desks.

Good question. I lived in Honolulu for three years in the early 90's. Back then, we had these things called phone books.

I remember in the first part of the phone book was a detailed description of what action to take should the alarm go off for an incoming attack. Oahu has a HUGE military presence.

If my memory is correct, the instructions were mostly based around a nuclear attack. I never attended grade school in Hawaii, but maybe they did those kinds of drills.

As for me, I went to school in the Midwest, and mostly it was tornado drills. Occasionally a fire drill.
4310   Patrick   2022 Mar 4, 12:50pm

Yes, for me too, growing up in the Midwest, we had tornado drills and fire drills, but no nuclear attack drills.

Tornadoes were and are a real hazard there. I remember my mom opening the windows during violent weather when I was little in Chicago because she was afraid the house would blow up if a tornado went over it with the windows closed. And I've seen videos showing that that does happen, but I'm not sure opening the windows would make any difference.

It was really cool for a little kid though, feeling the wind rushing through the house and seeing things getting wet.
