At least eight people were killed and more than 2,700 injured, many of them Lebanon-based Hezbollah fighters, when the handheld pagers they use to communicate exploded, Lebanon's health minister said Tuesday.

Firass Abiad said the blasts took place in several suburbs of Beirut, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. Abiad said in a news conference that many of the victims had injuries to their faces, hands and stomachs.

He said one of those killed was an 8-year-old girl.

The direct cause of the explosions was not immediately clear, though Hezbollah quickly blamed Israel for what it called its "sinful aggression." It said it Israel would get "its fair punishment."

A Hezbollah official told the Reuters news agency that the detonation of the pagers was the "biggest security breach" the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel.

Mojtaba Amani, Iran's ambassador in Lebanon, was also injured in the incident, though not seriously, according to Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency. Hezbollah is materially and financially backed by Iran.

There was no immediate comment from Israel's Defense Forces.

The incident comes just hours after Israel's security cabinet released a statement vowing to return residents of Israel's northern areas to their homes. Hezbollah, long Israel's enemy, has repeatedly fired missiles at Israeli territory since Hamas' Oct. 7 attacks, causing many residents to flee south.

A pager is a small electronic device that can be worn or fit in a pocket that beeps or vibrates when someone is trying to contact you. It displays the phone number or sometimes a short message. Pagers can usually only receive information, not transmit it, making their location hard to track.

Israel has for months warned that it could launch a military operation to drive Hezbollah away from its border.

OK, seems like Israel did this, but how?

I remember several cases where Israelis inserted explosives into cellphones and even payphones so they could be blown up on demand remotely, and killed Palestinian terrorists that way.

Nobody could assure that these devices were being detonated exclusively in the proximity of combatants. The superficial schadenfreude creates justification for more Hatfield and McCoy exchanges of atrocities, ultimately zero sum. Of course, maybe that's the purpose.

They all went off a few seconds after receiving a text; and they blew up, they didn't just heat up. Like I said, a litle beeper couldn't blow in seconds like what happened in the videos just by overriding the battery controls or something. At worst, they would have heated up and people would have thrown them out of their pockets; not have them completely blow up seconds after a notification. There was something extra special in those beepers.

I suspect Hezbollah ordered a bunch from China that were transhipped or resold from Dubai, and the Mossad got the shipment and had them packed with a little special unadvertised feature of plastic explosive.

The Gulf Arabs hate Hezbollah and Iran more than the Israelis do, something that Syrian Girl and Dawson don't like to mention.

Methinks there is going to be another Hezbollah mole hunt over this one.

You literally can't get more precise than this type of attack.

Fuckin world record level of precision.

But people still find ways to complain......

That's like science fiction if the Israelis could do that.
33   Ceffer   2024 Sep 17, 7:24pm

Shit. Nowhere to hide the explosives. Unless the phone IS the explosive.

This guy claims explosives are not needed:

Yeah Patrick, I heard on news radio that the Hezbollah leader told his soldiers to switch from cell phones to pagers and that explosives were put into the pagers at the manufacturing plant.

Not sure how feasible it is for the Mossad, etc. gaining access to this manufacturing plant in Taiwan and plant those explosives.

Let alone how did they go undetected as far as at least one worker at the manufacturing plant to not inform on this.

Or these pagers were intercepted by the Mossas in the supply chain like at the Fed Ex warehouse in Lebanon ?

Android and Chromebook have safety features like thermal throttling to protect from overheating.

Well, what seems the most likely speculation to me (which may be no reflection of the reality) is that they had the interceptive tech to explode the batteries.

Intercepting thousands of pagers, disassembling them precisely with a precise amount of explosive in the precise way for all of them sounds unusually labor intensive and lengthy unless it was done de novo right at the factory as part of the original assembly process. It does not seem likely the factory would have been complicit in such a plot. Also, the devices already have the bomb built in, why add another?

It would also leave duds that didn't explode that could be examined after the fact because very low probability every single one would have gone off as intended.

They posit the 'explosive' theory after the fact to disinform or cover up their particular ability to trigger the batteries in the way they did?

They likely pulled a boner in their impulsive glee revealing something that they should not have i.e. that lithium batteries can be exploded remotely like that and used as weapons. Of course, cynicism in this day and age and the multi tasking of the Global syndicates would make such remote detonation an almost a priori logical deduction. LOL! Green assassination and maiming. It would also please the demonic tendencies.

I burned my arm with a Galaxy sports watch that was supposed to be measuring some health variable. I was surprised it got that hot that fast. I turned it off, never repeated the measurement, and it was otherwise fine after that, but am not surprised these items could be triggered as small bombs.

I'm still inclined to think that there is a counter-disinfo to exonerate the widely used technologies or that these were 'special' pagers. There would be an immediate denial apparatus to reassure the public they weren't carrying remote triggered bombs.

Even if they could just put in particular batteries that contained explosive, who is to say how many of these bomb batteries are out there, where, and how and when are they intended to be detonated? It almost doesn't matter if regular batteries can or cannot do this. They have demonstrated that they can seed bomb batteries into standard products at will.

How many of these bomb batteries are there, and where are they? How and where were they manufactured and in what numbers? The batteries obviously functioned 'normally' up to the point they exploded. How many of these bomb batteries are going be showing up on the black market? All you have to do is have a remote triggering software and place a bomb battery into the phone of your target(s) when they are unaware? Or sell batches of standard product specially equipped with bomb batteries? It's a terrorist genie that they have let out of the bottle and it is not going to remain exclusively in the hands of Israelis.

"O.K. ,now no cell phones or any electronic devices allowed on any airliner at any time. Israel just shut down the planet. This is the black swan event."

Will stock market movements and the short sales and puts reflect the newly minted mass terrorism?

Going after a government that just remotely exploded thousands of devices in a coordinated attack, killing several and injuring thousands, really does not seem to be a wise move.

Some Millennials and a lot of GenZs are asking online, "what's a pager?"

That and this video of a Beirut ER is FAF.

The Israelis are badass.

It’s funny, I put up a thread here maybe 8 or so years ago calling the government gangster. The few remaining Democrat supporters on Pat.net at that time incorrectly objected to my description.

And here Israel goes and pulls one of the most gangster moves of all time, on par with Heisenberg coordinating a attack killing 10 men in different prisons simultaneously just so he didn’t have to pay off their families for their continued silence.

Right now in Lebanon, not just most Marionites but also many Sunni Muslims are laughing their asses off, too.

They hate the Shi'a punks and like to see them get their comeuppance.

It's a much better strategy that risking attacking urban areas where Hezbollah has their depots and bunkers on purpose.

New reports shed light on yesterday’s attack:

- Israel allegedly concealed explosive material within a new batch of Taiwanese-made pagers imported into Lebanon.

- Each pager had one to two ounces of explosive material hidden next to the battery, along with a switch to detonate the explosives.

- Reuters reports that Israel tampered with 5,000 devices, resulting in 3,000 explosions.

- The tampering occurred before the devices reached Hezbollah.

- These booby-trapped pagers had recently been distributed to Hezbollah operatives.

- The plan was initially intended for use only in the event of total war with Hezbollah, but Israel was forced to deploy it sooner due to Hezbollah's suspicions. The urgency was driven by the need to act before Hezbollah discovered the sabotage.

- The pagers were designed to explode shortly after being activated, increasing the likelihood that recipients would answer and suffer severe injuries.

- Lebanese officials report around 4,000 injured, with 200 in critical condition and 11 killed, most of whom were Hezbollah members.

- The Iranian ambassador was reportedly injured in the explosion.

- Approximately 500 Hezbollah members are said to have lost their eyesight due to the blast.

Like the vid above states, the bombs didn't just go off in Lebanon, they went off in Britain, too.

This campaign was an error in judgment just to get a few sadistic yucks for the home team and its grand standers, which makes one wonder if there are not hidden hands inside guiding Israel to its own demise.
58   Ceffer   2024 Sep 18, 10:48pm

OK, so much for it just being about 'explosives' in a few lots of devices. Is this is exposing the bomb potential of Li batteries across the board? Wake up call?

The rule of unintended consequences holds? Or, was it intended after all.

60   Ceffer   2024 Sep 18, 11:32pm

Of course, the pager thing happened just after a successful Houthi demonstration that there is no Israeli defense to its hypersonic missiles. Were they desperate for a public 'success' that smacked of cunning and treachery? Since they are emptying out one front for another, do they hope for a 'blitzkreig' while comms are down? Maybe the pager thing was a precipitance of fear.
