Reading the Storm Before The Storm.

Excellent read. The author translates Roman institutions and history he's telling into modern vernacular. The parallels to the Late Roman Republic era and the USA today are unbelievable.

What Blackrock and other corps have done to the housing markets? Happened to yeoman farmers in Rome. The effects on Roman wages from the mass importation of slaves from the conquests? Modern day globalization/immigration.

The populist backlash? The Grachii Brothers and Marius. Lot of Trump & Musk in those.

Captivating read.

Looks good, but I'm still working my way though some original texts from that era (well, in English) so that I have the background to understand such a book better.

Finally finished Plutarch's Lives and now I'm reading Suetonius's Twelve Caesars, which is also very good. My wife got me Livy's Early History of Rome so I suppose that's next after Suetonius.

I dig women who get their men books/stuff they want to read. My wife is working on this - it's a noble effort, especially if you have children.

My son and I watched "Gladiator" last night. I probably ruined it for him with my "domestic right-wing terrorist" (he didn't say that) periodic commentary. I think he liked it, regardless.

Wife and I are re-watching the Rome series at her suggestion, and it's much more understandable this time around because of all the reading I've done. I think they did the characters' personalities and appearances pretty truthfully.

Are you a movie narrator? I had to leave the room on xmas eve because the mother in law couldn't shut her fucking mouth watching a movie. I would get smacked as a kid if I talked during a movie or show. Laughing was fine, but talking and commentating was not allowed.

Never talk during a movie unless it's not movie related and an emergency. Hence why I build home theaters in my homes. I can't stand people talking during a movie. Tell me afterward. "Oh did you just see that!" is a classic. Yes.... I'm watching a fucking movie. Shut up.
