Has the main / Pacific Palisades fire spread to the east side of 405 yet? Looking at the google map, the Playboy Mansion (and the rumored tunnels around it) is a little over a mile to the east of 405. After that area is burned out, destroying evidence, the fire might finally be under control.

No, but we are talking a mile or less to 405 and Encino from the edges of the active fire zone. Also, Brentwood is a comprable sized suburb to the Palisades, is between the edge and the 405. Predictions are for winds to come back tonight or tomorrow.

No, it's a Netflix pizza, silly.

Celebrity types all have multiple homes, ranches etc. The LA places are for when doing business in town, which is becoming less frequent.

So, does anyone know if a house is destroyed by fire and gets rebuilt, does it lose its Prop 13 cost basis?

From what I've heard...if the house is rebuilt within 2 years, the owner gets to keep the original cost basis. If it is longer than that then it is taxed at present value. With the amount of rebuilding that is gonna happen does anyone think they will be able to rebuild in the 2 year window ???

Just another reason to grab the insurance money and not rebuild.

From one of the most corrupt municipalities in the state of CA if I remember correctly?

Mansion Tax ???

Top of the Real Estate market ???

How about a little Jewish lightning to take out the houses. Grab the ginormous insurance payouts and kinda leave California in the dust (ash) so to speak.

Rebuild ??? -- giggles to self

I think a lot are going to run. Not first class, but if I can fly for $12 that everyone has to pay and I could live anywhere. Reality is unless you're AAAA list noticeable, no one will know you.

Even if you had to fly an hour each way from out of state it would be cheaper. $500 per day is nothing if you're making $4k/day. There's no point in living in LA really. Unless you're a big time surfer type. The beaches and water suck.

No. Despite the rich getting emergency exemptions from the corrupt CCC bans on building again on the beach.

No chance in two years. Labor. Permits. You might get some crazy people that drive out and live in campers to help rebuild to make some $$$$, but it's going to be a long time. Those fire areas are trash for a while regardless of "value" previous. Out of staters probably don't know the CA code either.

If you're in the construction/material industries you love this. I just think this will be an excuse for a lot of people to get out of the area. I'd bet beside waterfront 10-20% of people are out. Beautiful state, but at what point is it worth it? Traffic, fires, potential massive earthquakes. I'm interest to see GDP on 2026 (for 2025) taxes are. It's probably going to be billions.

Confirmation the fire and right of way eminent domain were planned. Just roll over the corpses, skeletons, destroyed property and wrecked lives to the 'grand vision of the future'. Was it a desperation investment pool to squeeze one last act of demolition in before Trump?
