Patrick.net is one of my favorite sites on the internet, and the site I check out most for housing information and advice. Most of the posters and commenters are knowledgeable in the area of housing and economics. In addition many have a good sense of humor.
However, there some very stupid things written by some. I invite anyone to share some of the dumbest things they have read from posters on this site. They might be worth a few more laughs...

#housing

Another nomination:
ch_tah says

At most housing was going down slightly by Nov 2006.

The case shiller shows a 25% drop from May 2006 - Nov 2006.

I nominate yours so you can't modify it like you've done in the past. Yeah, 25%, try again!

48   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:21am

Mr.Fantastic says

I never said 25% of what. It could be nominal, cumulative, etc.
Thanks for playing though. )

I'll nominate this one as well.
C-S didn't drop 25% in that time period no matter what you are talking about. Damn, you are pathetic.

49   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:29am

Troy already did on the other thread. The numbers were pretty clear. Every C-S graph is perfectly clear. It's your turn to prove YOU right.

50   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:36am

Done!

Now you prove you are right. Am I supposed to ask you why you are so afraid now? Is that how this stupid game works?

51   Â¥   2011 Jan 26, 8:44am

MF is the most spectacularly trollingishly troll I've seen on the internet. Normally I might say he's got a low signal-to-noise ratio, but in his case it seems he's providing us an actively *negative* signal, something I have never seen before and thus did not think possible.

Going back and removing damning misstatements from an already combative missive is a key example of something I have never seen before on the internet, maybe because being able to edit one's comments is rare, but reddit has comment editing and I've never had to deal with such active dishonesty.

52   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:49am

Just in case there's any doubt how much of an idiot you are, here's more info from Mish:
http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2009/04/case-shiller-march-2009-analysis.html

If you assume May 2006 was the peak (even though it wasn't according to his chart), the total drop from the 10-city and 20-city indexes was 30% and 29%, respectively, by January 2009. If you are saying there was a 25% drop between May-Nov 2006, that means housing only dropped ~5% in 2007-2009. Yeah, that pretty much ranks on the top of the list of stupid thoughts.

53   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:57am

Just one last post to put some icing on the cake. There you go, specific cities.

54   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 8:58am

Mr.Fantastic says

Another nomination, this is too easy:
ch_tah says

If you assume May 2006 was the peak (even though it wasn’t according to his chart),

SF Aggregate C-S Jan - Dec 2006:
Jan 214.78

Feb 215.5

Mar 216.04

Apr 217.52

May 218.37 - peak

Jun 218.12

Jul 217.63

Aug 217.22

Sep 216.37

Oct 215.42

Nov 213.84

Dec 212.13

According to Mish's chart - you need to read things in context, genius.

Nomination for the SMARTEST thing said on patnet (sorry to yell, there):

This country is run on protecting people from the epidemic of their own willing ignorance.

56   American in Japan   2011 Jan 26, 4:11pm

@elliemae
True so true!

Anyway, I set up this post to give myself and others a good laugh and it has done so.
So back with the dumb things...

57   ch_tah   2011 Jan 26, 11:19pm

Mr.Fantastic says

This is too easy. ch_tah doesn’t know how to read charts, or what the term nominal and cumulative mean. I think ch_tah has proven he’s has a lack of education when it comes to analyzing data, and his only use here is to provide comedy for our entertainment.

I'll take it by your complete lack of support for your position that you cannot support your position and your sole purpose here is to annoy. You can't even provide one chart that shows what you are talking about. In the off chance you aren't just insulting or cheerleading, you offer stupid statements with no support whatsoever. Just put up the chart that shows a 25% decline in C-S in any form from May 2006 to Nov 2006. If you can't do this, then I think it is clear that Mr. F has proven he is completely full of crap and doesn't understand nominal, cumulative or any other concept remotely involving math or reading.

58   ch_tah   2011 Jan 27, 12:59am

Mr.Fantastic says

ch_tah, I’ll be honest, I’m trolling you. But you are pretty stupid, everyone realizes it, and that’s why your post everywhere are universally derided. The #1 reason why you’re a dumb faggot is because you simply don’t care to examine the source of information you post, and you excitedly cling to the nuts of anyone who will say “housing is doing great.” Example #1, Ingo Winzer.
You’re basically sucking Ingo Winzer’s dick because he’s saying San Jose is the #1 city with the potential to raise in value in 2011. You failed to address though that in 2006, Ingo Winzer called San Jose “Over priced” and had the following valuation.
Winzer’s 2006 Equilibrium Price for San Jose: $372,100. He claimed SJ was “61% Overpriced”.
In 2011…

Current San Jose Median Sale Price: $400,000
So the current SJ sale price is $27,900 away from the Winzer predicted equilibrium price (which is still almost 10% over priced according to Winzer’s initial valuation), yet Winzer is now saying that prices are going to increase?
See what kind of moron you’re worshiping? He has posted two viewpoints which are at odds. Yet you think he’s some sort of oracle for accuracy and prediction like that other faggot Troy.
This is why both of you are simply stupid and wrong all the time.

That's nice that you post directly to this thread, so there's no need to copy and paste. Just an easy quote to preserve for future reference so that you don't edit it and try to change history later. Thanks for showing your true colors with this one.

I don't like the "ignore" function, but I think you deserve it. Sorry if I don't respond to future posts of yours; it's not just because they are worthless and stupid, it's just because I don't see them.

59   Â¥   2011 Jan 27, 1:49am

Mr.Fantastic says

Yet you think he’s some sort of oracle for accuracy and prediction like that other faggot Troy.

LOL.

Here's his numbers again from mid-2006:

San Jose CA $599.2 $372.4 61% overpriced

zillow shows the 95112 zip had a $600,000 valuation in July 2006 and bottomed at $374,000 in May 2009.

That's not prediction, that's fucking magic.

Mr.Fantastic says

You follow me because you know I’ve taught you numerous things by simply posting.

That's my nomination. When have you ever posted anything that could be even remotely considered as constructive?

Mr.Fantastic says

I’m trolling

At least you admit that you are a troll. That's progress...

61   American in Japan   2011 Jan 29, 12:07am

@Troy

Sorry, there is just too much competition for any of your comments to have a chance on this distinction.
Maybe another award!

62   elliemae   2011 Jan 29, 6:18am

Mr.Fantastic says

ch_tah, I’ll be honest, I’m trolling...stupid, everyone realizes it...dumb faggot...because you simply excitedly cling to the nuts of anyone who will say “housing is doing great.” You’re basically sucking Ingo Winzer’s dick... like that other faggot Troy. This is why both of you are simply stupid and wrong all the time. You’re right, I am a moron. So to prevent you from exposing me further, I’ll just hide away from you now.

Mistermister:
Your use of the word "faggot" was used incorrectly, in that you allege ch_ta & Troy are gay if only because they disagree with you and support a statement by Winzer. There is a huge difference between quoting someone and performing a sexual act upon him - I would hope that you would know that, but it appears as though you missed that day in school. It does remind me of an interchange I had with a guy in high school:

Boy - do you know the difference between a Big Mac & a blowjob?
Elliemae - no.
Boy - Wanna go to lunch? ;)

But I digress. Other posters' disagreeing with you, especially in the respectful manner in which they do, is perfectly acceptable to the awards committee. Notice that ch_ta stated that your posts are worthless and stupid, but he/she didn't attack you personally by alleging that you lack intelligence or the ability to participate in a reciprocal conversation. I polled the members of the committee and we all agreed that it's a fine line between clever & stupid. Guess which side of the line you're on?

When you use a pejorative term and common homophobic slur to attack a fellow poster, you are no longer eligible for a patnet award although your comments were added to the "most offensive" awards, to be held later this year in Oil City, Pennsylvannia.

If you would like to appeal this decision, please do so without using the word "faggot" and I will forward your concerns to the committee.

63   Bap33   2011 Jan 29, 6:47am

@ellie,
Please understand that I am not defending Mr.Fantastic with my comments. I just had something to add. In my world, around my friends, we used "faggot" as a common putdown, on the same level as buttwipe, assbreath, dickhead, prick, stupid, idiot, queer, ect ect. Pretty much just another sophomoric put-down. Even to this day, if someone suggests doing something in an entirely idiotic way I may be overheard saying that doing it that way would be "gay". I do not mean it would be sexually deviant, I mean it would be the wrong way to do something - just as an example. Same thing for name calling, I have been called a faggot about 9 bazzilion times, and the N word, and all of the different ways to describe male and female anatomy ... I have been called them all. It's just words, vocabulary, used to express ones self.

I have no idea if Mr.Fantastic was suggesting that the other posters were sexual deviants, and if so, that makes little sense.

As I have tried to say, on-line there is no sex, hence no sexual identity, hence we are all gay and straight and slutty and prudish and male and female ... becasue on here we all be just words.

For the record, I do not agree with namecalling very often.

64   marcus   2011 Jan 29, 7:03am

I work with kids. And saying "that's gay" sounds very innocent to me and relatively meaningless. But the word "faggot" to me is an ugly hate word. I'm straight, but I just find that word very ugly. And usually when I hear it, it is an expression of hate or sounds very much that way to me.

Maybe its because one of the only times I ever was called that name, it was as a kid, my photography class went on a field trip to another high school to see an exhibit. I had very long hair, was kind of thin, not effeminate, but maybe a little bit of a pretty boy, definitely not the most burly super macho looking guy. This moron from the other school looked me in the eyes, from about twenty feet away, with a very mean attitude and says "faggot !" This guy did not know me, and this was meant as far as I could tell as fighting words.

No I didn't fight him, he clearly would have kicked my ass.

I would say that it's very much like the N word in that regard, if used with friends it might be almost amusing in some contexts, but it can be used as one of the most ugly hate words.

65   Â¥   2011 Jan 29, 7:08am

You said that you "used" the term, so I'm assuming that you did this during your sophomoric younger years. That's cool. It's even cool if you were to use the term "faggot" with your friends in private now. There's a common use of the word "gay:" people often say, "that's so gay..." I don't care, nor am I judging people who use such terms.

I believe - and correct me if I'm wrong - that the use of the word faggot on a public forum in conjunction with more than one reference to two posters performing a sexual act on another man, and the obvious disdain which the self-branded Mr. Fantastic holds toward these posters, to whom he has stated he feels intellectually superior; well he was purposefully trying to be offensive.

So no award for him. Or soup, for that matter.

So, did you go to lunch with him ?

68   elliemae   2011 Jan 29, 9:46am

The only thing I remember is laughing my ass off. We're still good friends (30 some years later).

69   Bap33   2011 Jan 29, 11:01am

@marcus .... I may have been that burly looking fellow in your past ... we all did and said things as kids that look kinda mean now. I have classic man looks, and even a blind person would know I'm extra-straight, from 30 yards away, in poor lighting.... I simply emit "MAN" .... me and Chuck Norris share this trait. lol

@ellie ..... I have to be honest, in the right group of buddies, it is still sophmoric names for all ... even at 42 and chubby and gray. None of my buddies are queer(openly), but we are all perverted sinners, and fathers, and husbands, and we still do silly things that are embarassing when they are accidently done in mixed company.

I was called an ethnic slur on Friday at the coffee shop at 5am by a life long friend ... he was expressing his displeasure with how close I parked to his driver's door as we pulled in at the same time, forcing him to move his truck before exiting ... yes .. it was funny, and sophmoric, and his choice of words fit the moment pretty well in our world. He also used the F word as the only adjective for a few senrtences. Who starts their day better than that?

70   elliemae   2011 Jan 29, 11:46am

Mr.Fantastic says

Ellie is obviously a faggot.

I guess that's one thing that we have in common - I like sex with men too. Since you're fixated on the term, I'm thinking that you're protesting a bit too much. Btw, I was almost successful in my endeavor to not to call you Mr. Fucktastic.

Bap33 says

Bap, you mentioned that you say these things to your friends. Who doesn't? I say inappropriate things all of the time - Just read some of my posts. It's just that I don't use offensive slurs to be hurtful to a stranger when I'm on the losing end of an interwebs conversation.

71   elliemae   2011 Jan 29, 11:48am

So, when you press "ignore," it asks "really ignore Mr. Fantastic?" There was no "really, really - I mean this guy is an offensive pos with whom I wish to never speak again" button.

I wonder if Patrick can add that?

72   American in Japan   2011 Jan 29, 1:38pm

I have never used the Ignore function yet, but one poster on this is really tempting me. (BTW it's not Elliemae, ch_tah or Troy)

Let's get back to some stupidly funny posts...

cheers.

I’m going to add one. Someone said that we should drill for oil in the national parks, ANWAR, erc. because this will lower the costs of gasoline for Americans… since the oil companies will sell petroleum to Americans more cheaply.

I forgot all about this thread, but this made me laugh, again.

Bap, I think you're a reasonable fellow, if I remember your posts correctly, in aggregate.

But, well...you wouldn't know gay if it asked you for a light. And it probably has, girlfriend.

Maybe you were being ironic. There's lots of gay at NASCAR too, ya know.

86   quesera   2011 May 25, 8:35am

That's funny, because I thought I was way nicer to him in the first comment. :)

Without irony or trying to be clever, then: Bap I recall that most of your other posts are fairly reasonable, but you're deeply uninformed if you believe you can determine "gay" by appearance.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't call myself liberal either. But if "liberal" is the opposite of some of the folks on here who think they're conservative, then I wouldn't mind being called the L word.
