Big_Brain, out of concern for your heath I must suggest that you see a doctor imminently about the swelling of your brain. Clearly from your post your large brain is not the result of a super intelligent brain, but due to your herpes having spread to your brain causing a dangerous swelling to occur. That tells. US Military is absolutely the most Socialist entity in the World. Not only it's 100% Government budgeted, but most of those who join it do it to get Big Brothers assurance of their future. They do it for free living, free education, free Health Care, and pensions later on. Those are young men scared of free competition in civic society. US military is by far the world biggest stimulus package. USA hardly needs 25% of its military personelle for its security, the rest are essentially very expensive welfare recipients.

I don't think they all join for those reasons, and certainly not now when they could face the very real prospect of having to go to war. However, they all do get those socialist benefits, regardless of their motivation. What bugs me is that some of them turn around and complain about anyone else getting "socialized" services.

Ask those people about actual policies and you'll find that they're overwhelmingly on the side of so-called "liberal" politics -- the only reason they wouldn't call themselves that is because "conservatives" (really, the GOP) has managed to make the word "liberal" into a dirty word. This is why people are now going back to "Progressive".

There is nothing "conservative" about supporting the military industrial complex.

That is what that term means according to Rodger Ailes, btw. It has nothing to do with how you fantasize about what it means.

So when he says "fair and balanced", what he really means is heavily slanted to Republicans, but it's OK because I think other news channels are biased towards Democrats.

I kinda doubt this..with the military sure but not with everyone else. The other matter is some might be socially/financial liberal/conservative.

You could technically find someone that is socially conservative (dixie crat) that is against same sex marriage but has no problems with socialized health care (financially liberal)

You could find someone that is fine with anyone getting married (socially liberal) but is against taxation and bloated government(financially conservative) (libertarian)

Those that identify themselves as "conservative" vs "liberal" are about a 2 to 1 ratio. However, for the reasons you mentioned, and more, I don't think most of those surveyed define "conservative", or "liberal" for that matter, the same way that Big_Brain does.
