You'd think as a proofreader of medical texts he'd have known what those chest pains meant.
This story is bunk, after 5 days his smell would have been enough to know he was not OK.
The story first came out in December 2000 (and then repeated in 2003) in this piece of journalistic wonderment:

When my son was little he didn't like to read - but in line at the supermarket one day, he read a headline in the wwn and opened the paper to read the article. He was 9 years old at the time.
I was thrilled that he felt inspired to read ANYTHING, so I dutifully purchased a copy every week, and actually read it myself so that we would have something to discuss at dinner. This went on over a year - and I'm proud to say that my son is now a professional who reads as part of his profession.
It was worth every damn minute I spent reading that rag.
