I'm not entirely sure it's real, but maybe the outboard motor is on the floor, somehow driving that propeller.

Also, in the 60s and 70s boat motors were two-stroke that produced lots of smoke and no smoke is seen here. An electric motor capable of powering that rotor would require lots of lead-acid batteries that would be too heavy for that boat to fly. Also, single rotor cyclic and collective with one control on the swashplate is a miracle in that he can have the back moving rotor blade flatten to give forward thrust without the boat yawing. A gyroplane would require a separate propeller that provides thrust, as no thrust from the rotor.
