This article could live comfortably in the "are Republicans sociopaths?" thread.

Fair warning: this should be a difficult read for anyone who isn't a sociopath. Especially anyone who knows how high suicide rates are among gay kids.

Don't worry tomorrow he'll put an ad out supporting gays.

From the OP article: Talking to Romney "was like talking to a robot." Of course it was. Talking to a cult member is often like talking to a robot. They operate in a parallel world. People underestimate the centrality of the cult in Romney's whole biography. When has he ever gone out of his way to do anything for anyone who isn't a member of his cult? His tax shift will favor the top 0.1% regardless of their religious affiliation, but that isn't going out of his way: he personally would see his taxes reduced dramatically. Romney supporters, for example fellow cult member Glenn Beck, talk about Romney's volunteer work, but they omit that it is always for the cult. Romney apologists say that both Romney and Obama are merely aloof, but that overlooks Glenn Beck's point: Romney cares about his fellow cult members, he just doesn't care about you. Although some might accuse me of harboring some sort of prejudice against the cult, that would be incorrect; I used to think highly of them, even visited Salt Lake City, and then I learned more about them.

The fact that Romney is an unfeeling douchebag isn't going to hurt him with his base.

but you'd think the constant switches and reversal of his "opinions" would... Remember when "flip flop" was SUUUCH a huge attack insult it was almost part of the republican campaign platform?

But yeah, I know I know...

"He was for it before he was against it" was one of the biggest negatives they pinned on Kerry.

That probably does still affect some of the so called independents, and may be part of the reason why Romney will lose. But yeah, at this point the right wig base has no choice but to ignore that aspect of Romney's character.

Just like they ignored the deficit when Bush was in office, but once Obama got in, suddenly it was the worst thing ever.

I remember.

Romney's flip-flopping makes Kerry seem downright sincere.

The bit I found most interesting, on an intellectual level, was the part of the article that showed where Romney can find common cause with the LGBT community. If their corporate masters can find a dividend in it, Romney can be persuaded, within bounds. Even on social and moral issues, the man defers to John Galt.

That shouldn't be too surprising if you take a close reading of his campaign, messaging, VP pick, gaffes, personality, business history, last two years' tax returns --et cetera. What is surprising is that this article isn't talking about how Romney manages his campaign today --it's talking about how he ran Massachusetts as a "moderate" Republican governor in a very blue and otherwise gay-friendly state. This isn't something new that he's affecting to stroke the base, and cajole checks from donors. It's who he is.

What's amazing is the far-right's enthusiasm for a former governor of Massachusetts. I suspect it's not really enthusiasm for Romney, but hatred for Obama the community organizer born in Kenya.

Actually, Thomas S. Monson.

I agree. It is interesting. Because the question has always been, who is this guy ? We know he's somewhat of a chameleon, but the question has been, is he a moderate who can act like a right wing ahole for political purposes, or is it the other way around?

Like last weeks video, this article suggests it's the latter.

But then again, maybe all of this is elaborate machiavellian positioning to get more money out of the Koch brothers before the final stretch of the campaign. Is that even possible ? That is, for them to leak out stories like this to liberal media, with the intent of improving his right wing credibility with the big right wing money ?

At least on LGBT issues, he's been too consistent for too long. Per the article, the only thing that would make him even reconsider on small things like inheritance rights, is if a billionaire were concerned that such things were dragging on GDP.
