I think it would be counterproductive to shame PG&E for their role in this. That would be impolite and very rude to our betters.
Besides, this is actually a good sign. Their ability to put waste in unlined ponds means that they weren't crippled by job-killing regulations.
Birth defects and cancer are what I look for in choosing a place to live, because it shows that government understands the concerns of the good people - the job creators - and has turned its back on the evil, lazy, middle class.
The important thing to remember here is that hexavalent chromium is not a Hinkley-specific problem; rather it is a U.S. wide problem.

Although Hinkley was 276% greater cancer rate than the rest of San Bernardino County, which was 359/100000
Average Cr-6 levels in Hinkley were recorded as 1.19 ppb with a peak of 3.09 ppb. The PG&E Topock Compressor Station averaged 7.8 ppb and peaks at 31.8 ppb based on the PG&E Background Study. Compare to the California proposed health goal of 0.02 ppb.

Ugh San Jose ain't looking too good there!
There are worse things than chrome plated feces.
Maybe they should train the people to shit hubcaps for sale instead of sitting around on toxic waste waiting for legal windfalls.

Exactly! These assholes are sure to get oodles of cash for their property, and will enjoy life more elsewhere.
Free market FTW!
I hate it when pussies expect the government to protect their property rights. Assholes!

Chromium isn't bacteria or germs. Ethanol does nothing for it. The pH and buffer strength on the other hand might.

According to the article, there are many people who weren't part of the settlement.
So far as "2000 people isn't a big deal..." I honestly don't need to know where to start.
If it were you, it would be a "big deal" even if you had tons of money to pay for your move.
This is the town that was featured in Erin Brockovich, the film that won Julia Roberts an Oscar. PG&E had been adding toxins to the groundwater in this town, and there was a 333 million dollar settlement. The residents thought that the worst was over...
