Wow, they are seriously overpaying those Filipinos!
If those group home owners had any brains at all they'd remake themselves as a home care "educational campus" and charge those Filipino "foreign students" tuition for the valuable work experience! They could also collect $$$ from the government AND $$$ from the patients!
After all, why pay employees when you can charge tuition?

"The rule “finally recognizes the value of the work done by millions of people who take care of our aging parents as well as our sisters, brothers and children with disabilities,†Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, the largest U.S. labor federation, said in a statement.
The decision grants overtime and minimum wage rights to a broad swath of home-care workers, including home health aides, personal care aides, personal assistants, home attendants, companions, personal care staff, resident care aides, and direct-support professionals."
It might not seem like a big deal, but there are many Filipino-run group homes in NV and California. The workers actually start at $1,200/month with 2 days off. No, that is not a typo. The group home owners charge $2,000 or more per patient, and their indentured servants are providing the care. I don't think that will solve the problem completely, because many workers are illegal and therefore will have no protections.
These homes provide limited assistance, and patients aren't as closely monitored as nursing homes. Medicaid rarely pays for this placement.
It's about fucking time these workers are paid normal wages.
