Panama offers the silver-haired set discounts on utility and doctor's bills and even gives them cheaper mortgages. In nearby Ecuador, seniors 65 and older get sales tax refunds, half-price bus and plane tickets and front-of-the-line privileges everywhere from the bank to airport customs. "They really treat senior citizens with a lot of respect," said Susan Schenck, a retired teacher who moved from California to Ecuador four years ago. "I'm 58, and I can't wait until I'm 65." Some countries, like the Philippines, have government agencies devoted to attracting foreign retirees. Meanwhile, others have streamlined their visa process and introduced low...

While America calls them a blight that will drag the Melinals cushy lifestyle down, when they retire. It's such a goddamned lie, that countries all over the world want them and their retirement dollars. They are even will to treat their healthcare needs without wondering "Well Who's going to PAY for it?".

2   Ceffer   2014 Oct 15, 6:17am

Inundate them with fucking BOOMFUCKS, and they will think they are all ASSHOLES just like we do.

I think US forgot how to treat people as people, everyone is either disposable labor or worthless dead weight, there is nothing human left there.

The boomers should be treated the same way they treated their parents. Make 'em gift you all the cash and property, then dump 'em in a nursing home under medicare.

I've been to nursing homes on Tuesdays in the Morning, Thursdays in the Evening, on Saturdays and Sundays.

Out of 200 beds, maybe there were 5 visitors maximum at any time, of which maybe one other person was visiting a relative - the rest were their old neighbors and friends.

"Can't visit this weekend, dad, I'm off to Landmark training."

Pretty Goddamned Sad.

I.e., the Boomers have ruined America and now they are moving to places they haven't ruined to retire. Is anyone surprised about this? It's the selfish end to a lifetime of selfishness. Even in old age, the Boomers expect nothing but privileges.

Tell me again why Gen X and the Millennials are "too privileged"?

Even in old age, the Boomers expect nothing but privileges.

After a lifetime of saying "Fuck you, old man" from age 18 to 58.

1960s: "Don't trust anyone over 30s. Don't bogart that joint, my friend. Pass it over to me."
1970s: "What's wrong with these new HMO? Screw paying $5 extra bucks a month for BC/BS. I'm 25 and I don't go to the hospital much."
1980s: "Yeah, what the actor on TV said - We need to be set free from the dead hand of government so we can achieve our potential and the lifestyle we deserve. It's just like what Erhard said at the leadership seminar last month. We need to control our own 401ks. Defined Benefit plans are for cowards and the lazy. We need to lobby the government to let us underfund pensions when the stock market goes up."
1990s: "I should keep people on who have been here for 20 years because of Loyalty? This is a business. And the kids are getting ridiculous, we need to outsource to China."
2000s: "What's wrong with low interest rates? CDs? Bonds? Just buy homes and flip them if you need steady retirement money. It's fun in your old age to drive around and look for fixer uppers. Give you something to do."

Now they're like "What happened to respect for seniors?"

Hearing that from Babyboomers.

What a laugh, hahahahahaha.

9   Blurtman   2014 Oct 15, 11:28am

Aaahhh, good to see knee jerk stereotyping and bigotry is alive and well. The war machine depends on it.

But let's be clear, we have to eat the eat the pre-boomers and early boomers. Them's the folks with the money. They are the takers. Let's git 'em!

"Depression babies – born between 1926 and 1935 and now 78 to 87 years old; median net worth was $207,500 in 2010 and had not changed from 2007.

War babies – born between 1936 and 1945 and now 68 to 77 years old; median net worth in 2010 of $212,300, down about $53,500 or 20 percent from 2007.

Late baby boomers – born between 1956 and 1965 and now 48 to 57 years old; median net worth in 2010 of $110,870, down $36,800 or 25 percent from 2007.

Gen Xers – born between 1966 and 1975 and now 38 to 47 years old; median net worth in 2010 of only $41,600, down nearly $33,500 or 45 percent from 2007."

Bullshit captain. No country is offering public health care to foreign retirees. You have to buy health insurance.

Yep, it was knee-jerk and beneath me and my better nature failed to hold back the rant. Not all boomers are bastards. But I'm sure as shit pissed off at greying Yuppies trying to abrogate all responsibility for shit that happened on their watch.

And their watch it was - Boomers in the last two decades have been the leadership of the country, from government to private industry. And while not all leaders were boomers, and not all boomers were in leadership, they were - overwhelmingly - the dominant voting group by population from the 70s until recently, when enough Gen Y'ers crossed into adulthood.

I'm not trying to abrogate responsibility, but I don't think the focus on one age group makes very much sense.

I would look to the system, which was in place before the boomers were such a big voting block and will be after. And I would look at human nature. Is the generation spoiled ? Sure. We're things as easy for boomers as many want to paint them to be ? No.

Our system and that moment in history was such that this country lost a lot during the last 20 - 40 years.

Did the boomers prevent it ? No. They didn't stop it from happening. But we are talking about an age demographic.

Why don't we pick on say men ? IT was men that fucked us over. Can't you see all the ways that men failed us in recent decades ?

No, wait....it was the caucasions that fucked us over. They had their moment in the sun, and they totally failed. Look at what is happening to our economy, to the middle class, to the environment, our culture.

IT's the fault of the white man !!!

Don't you get it ? choosing an age demographic and laying the blame there is no less nonsensical, than any other group you can identify that existed and was in power during this time.

Anyone that ever dreamed about owning a Ferrari and having a ridiculously insane 7 figure salary, while managing other people's money.

Is what fucked this country up. They either made it happen or allowed it to happen because they want some too.

And that group represents every age and socio economic demographic.

I've known these scumbags all of my life, some as young as 20 and some as old as 80. Some richer than God, some on their way there, and some part timers doing their best to get their. They are cons, charlatans, and cheats. They are bankers, preachers, lawyers, and crooks, who then go on and get into politics. They don't give a fuck about this country and they don't give a fuck about you.

But hey you can blame my 72 year old mother a lifelong housewife, living on an $800 a month fixed income if you want to.

FortWayne says

you are getting all this hatred

Acknowledging the bad behavior and selfishness of a generation is hardly hatred. And, of course, not everyone in a generation is the same. But as a whole, there is plenty the Boomers have to be ashamed of.

1. They started a drug culture and then waged a war on drugs killing many innocent people and destroying the basic civil liberties of the American citizen.

2. They fornicated like wild beasts and then told us we'd die if we ever had sex after they spread AIDS around.

3. They turned environmentalism into a stupid culture war and pop-music genre and then wrecked the world's ecosystem leaving future generations to clean up. They also wiped out half of all wildlife in the past 40 years.

4. They horded wealth during the greatest period of appreciation of stocks, real estate, and materials the world has ever seen and then left us with crippling debt to pay for their excesses.

5. They turned the police force into an occupying military that views all citizens as the enemy.

6. The completely destroyed privacy in our society by installing a surveillance society that makes the Fourth Amendment meaningless.

7. The kept alive the viruses of racism and homophobia and tried to infect future generations with these diseases. Luckily most Gen Xers and Millennials have remained immune.

8. When they were juveniles, juvenile crime was at an all time high. When they were young adults, drugs and violent crime ran rampant. When they got to senior management and the real power, financial crimes became commonplace.

9. They caused the Second Great Depression with their unbridled greed, speculation, and leveraging.

10. They are still screwing over the younger generations financially, politically, and socially.

11. They've gutted every social safety net except for Social Security, and their stance on that is that SS should remain for their generation and screw everyone else. Then they have the gall to call the younger generations "entitled".

12. They outsourced every worthwhile job and sold off the country's infrastructure and manufacturing base.

Finally, they have never shown any remorse for doing these things.

19   Tenpoundbass   2014 Oct 15, 3:35pm

And you guys wonder why 70 year old guys blow away opportunity seeking punks who show up at their house unannounced.

When I was a baby, and the boomers were just starting to have kids, we got:

"Rosemary's Baby"
"The Omen"

Yeah, we're all demons and devils. Babies need attention, sorry they are keeping you from Studio 54 or your Self-Actualization Weekend.

When I was a teen, it was "Superpredators" - all the GenXers were going to be Clockwork Orange Murderous Serial Killer Types. Cop and Sociologist alike were screaming on the TV about violence and teens. Boomer Tipper Gore was very concerned about Violent AND Sexual Lyrics in Music. Her husband Al Gore was all about her cause too (remember that, Party Believer Liberals?).
http://www.youtube.com/embed/eb8ntA9ArJM

Then the opposite happened - the oldest boomer entered their 30s and crime , esp. violent crime, started a steady decline that is still sliding downwards from it's 70s-early 90s peak.

Now of course to balance our the Gores you had Zappa. But Zappa wasn't a senator, didn't draft laws, and didn't represent your typical 1980s "Hip to be Square" Babyboomer.

Boomer Authors are always writing books and lecturing about how awful, self-absorbed (hahahahah), and lazy Gen X and Gen Y are.

The shit with the PMRC, the demonization of Younger Generations, the repeated voting for anti-worker Presidents and Congresses, the Prison-Industrial Complex (which got going in the 80s for true. Nixon's War on Drugs hardly effected the incarceration rate and, financially, provided 3/4 of the money allocated on Rehab - it was the 1984 and 1986 legislation that did it.) is not my imagination or confined to pressure groups. These things have all been advocated or treated with serious consideration by the main organs written by mainstream boomer columnists like Tom Friedman and David Brooks, with articles by others in Newsweek, on CNN, etc.

But the moment you criticize the boomers, it's "Don't engage in generational warfare." Yet seldom when it's boomer against others, do we hear that cry. It seems to be pretty much a one-way street.

I can't think of a single Boomer dominated group that ever said "Maybe we need to sacrifice for the good of the younger generations."

There's nothing wrong with Pushback and Turnabout is all Fair Play - if it helps stimulate discussion. It shouldn't be taken too far, but it's good to have some criticism - even if it's a flawed method.

Their grandkids are going to ride them rotten about trading home ownership, and individual mobility and jobs that paid a living wage for a pocket toy/personal organizer.

If the Boomers are guilty of social assault, then the millennials are guilty of social Murder.

True that. And don't forget that financial crime has peaked with the Boomers controlling the banks and stock market and financial institutions. If you include financial crimes, the crime is actually higher today than in the 1970s.

One or two Boomers? It was the entire 90s... and now continues with the Millenials. Book after book, article after article.

It's not GenX and Y that are going beserk over criticism - we're used to it.

The problem with boomers is that while they got some feedback in the 60s, for the past half century Marketeers and Politicians have been blowing smoke up their ass to get dollars and votes, they believe that because they haven't been criticized as a group, it must mean there is nothing to criticize.

I'm embarrassed for the Boomers, because when it's suggested they bear some responsibility for the current situation, get entirely:

And start denying sociological terms that have been used forever to describe demographics like it's some kind of weird fad.

I'm embarrassed for un-reflective boomers, who honestly, truly can't conceive that as America's largest voting bloc, and owning most of the leadership positions from Academia to Business to Military, have no fault at all for the current situation.

People have no problem with general categories like "White", "Black", "Working Class", "DINK", "MILF" - not a blush, and really not a problem. But turn that telescope in a different direction...

It's overdue for the Boomers to get some flak, quite frankly.

Whether or not you look forward to something after death is irrelevant. Anticipating your fictitious afterlife doesn't make it real.

Furthermore, wanting to leave the world a better place than you found it is not "venting". It's being a decent person whole life was worth living. That's something you conservatives will never understand.
