If my children were terrorists, then they would deserve to be tortured if innocent lives could be saved. Of course, I would be biased at that point and spew the same nonsense as you, by claiming torture never works.
Now it's my turn. Would you be OK with torturing, if it could save your life, and the lives of your loved ones?

I would be perfectly OK with everyone else in the world dying to save my family, and just about all human beings would take a similar position. That is why you don't let the selfish interests of any human being take precedent over the good of the many.

I would rape your children to death to save the life of my niece -- and you would do the same. That doesn't mean it should be legal or tolerated by society. Most animals would kill you painfully to protect their own offspring; that doesn't make it moral or a good basis for government.

If we followed the philosophy of "anyone can do whatever they perceive is in the best interest of their family" then we'd have constant warfare within every town of our nation as each family tried to murder every other family before that family got a chance to murder them. That's a really stupid way to run a society.
