Depends. Was the person who's had was being bang doing any or all of the following?
1. Stalking the other person.
2. Running after the other person in an aggressive manner while the other fled.
3. Carrying a loaded gun causing the other person might have just cause to fear for his life given #1 and #2.

If the answer to the above three are a resounding yes, then I'd say the person in question was acting in self-defense out of fear for his life. Cops have shot sleeping 7-year-old girls for far less.
