He just picked a fight with the NFL and has them and the Democrats basically defending the 6-figure and millionaire players' right not to stand for the anthem.

"I'm so oppressed, I just signed a multimillion dollar contract. I just have to kneel during the National Anthem."

A private in the US Army makes $1600 a month. Is he allowed to kneel when the Anthem is played without jeopardizing his career?

The difference of course, is the private has an important job, whereas an NFL Player is just an entertainer.

"Leave the oppressed guys who make 6-7 Figures alone, Orange Douche! If the NFL wants to market itself as America's Pastime while kneeling in front of the flag (which started under a Black President, BTW), nobody should criticize it!"

This isn't about free speech, it's about the customers dictating the policy.

What the hell? Of course it's about free speech. This is LITERALLY the Head of the Government saying that a citizen shouldn't have the right to criticize the government,

You think that's OK? You think that's what America is about? Silencing those who would criticize?

Yes, there is no better display of unity than having a few team members refuse to stand for the national anthem of the Country. The only country where Football is a top sport.

It certainly got a lot of publicity and coverage. Seems like it worked to me. It shined a lot of light on the topic.

Fuck the NFL in the ass, and start by demanding a very modest level of acknowledgement in not tolerating long-pampered 6-7 figure Entertainers acting like they're oppressed, when every school they ever went to covered up their crimes that would have gotten any other student expelled or handed over to the police.

Hey--you're certainly free to not watch the NFL. If you don't want to watch black athletes, that's your choice.

What can't happen is the President of the United States trying to silence criticism and free speech.

He's not fighting on behalf of anybody and doing neither a solid with his hypocritical virtue-signaling. He should go to Oakland's poorest neighborhoods and use some of his fortune he amassed kneeling to better their lives, engage in local projects and put some of his money to work right there.

Sorry, you don't get to decide how and when he fights. He absolutely IS fighting on behalf of others.

You can go to the poorest neighborhoods in Oakland if that's how you think it should be done. Kaep has other ideas and he gets to make the choice of how he wants to protest.

You can post on here next time you donate $1MM to charity.

Nope. He said a Tax-exempt monopoly (that markets itself as a vaunted, almost holy, American institution) shouldn't tolerate disrespect for the anthem from contracted entertainers. The President also has Freedom of Speech.

What did Obama tweet that time about asking the boss for contraceptives, re: Hobby Lobby? I'd post the pic of the tweet but image upload isn't working.

How is that evenly remotely analogous?

19   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Sep 23, 7:59pm

The NFL is worse than organized religion because tax-free organized religion can't strongarm the City/State/County into paying for a Worship Center like the NFL can.

And many religious centers actually dig into their pockets to do shit for Vets. Nor do Choir Members make 6-7 figures to sing once or twice a week.

Trump would be fine if he said they should lose their tax-exemption. I'd agree with him!

Obama expressed his opinion that employers should have no say in contraception. Trump expressed his opinion that entertainers of a tax-exempt Monopoly drowning tax-payer subsidies shouldn't be employed if they refuse to acknowledge respect for the nation that literally makes their lifestyle possible.

You're kidding right.

Trump said a US citizen shouldn't have the right to protest.

Obama made a statement about health care policy.

There is literally NO similarity. None.

Where was your outrage when Google fired that IT Guy?

I believe if you can be fired (in California, no less) for writing a memo expressing skepticism, you can certainly be fired for going out of your way (Kneeling) to disrespect the national anthem while on camera while employed by "America's Pasttime" and damaging the brand.

Hey, I think Entertainers and Artists are free to express themselves, but not free to demand to get patronage while they do it.

I had no outrage and, unlike you, my position has been 100% consistent. An employer has the right to fire, or not fire, their employer for making statements detrimental to their employer.

Google is within its rights to fire the IT guy.

The NFL is within its rights (assuming it doesn't contradict the collectively bargained employment agreement) to fire Kaep if it feels he is making statements that damage the NFL brand.

What isn't allowed is the President of the US trying to stifle free speech, however.

How does Trump expressing his opinion stifle free speech? He didn't stop being a citizen when he became President. In fact, being a Natural Citizen of the USA is a requirement for the job.

Did Obama stifle Freedom of Speech when he tweeted a pic saying "Ask your BOSS about Contraception"?

Did Eric Schmidt seek to stifle Freedom of Speech when he fired a non-famous, non-televised IT Guy for writing a memo?

What makes much caressed career Football Players (regularly nationally televised) and their Employers above criticism?

28   joeyjojojunior   2017 Sep 23, 8:23pm

TwoScoopsMcGee says

How does Trump expressing his opinion stifle free speech?

When one is the President, one isn't allowed to "express opinions" that contradict the Constitution. You realize that Trump cannot speak as a private citizen anymore once he becomes President. He is speaking as the leader of the United States, and as such, cannot "express an opinion" that a US citizen shouldn't be allowed to exercise his right to free speech.

29   joeyjojojunior   2017 Sep 23, 8:25pm

Nope. He wasn't President of the United States.

He can certainly express his opinion that an employer cut an entertainer's contract over behavior he regards as crossing the line.

As can anybody else.

Just like Obama can express his opposition to a Supreme Court Decision, literally the most "contradicting the Constitution" thing you can do. Bar sending in the Army and declaring their opinion "Null and Void by Act of the President" of course.

TwoScoopsMcGee says

No, as President, he really can't. As Donald Trump, private citizen, he can. As Trump Inc., he can. As leader of the US, he can't.

I can see why you keep trying to divert this and deflect away from Trump's blatant attempt to restrict free speech.

Free speech is obviously only worth defending when it's Milo or Alex Jones or the KKK marching. When it's a black athlete--shut up and play nice.

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours." He does believe in it, that's why he is making use of it. DT did not demand Kaepernick getting fired (by decree or law), but voiced his opinion that he should get fired. The NFLs response is equally hypocritical as Kaepernick's quota negro bullshit. Kaepernick has as much to do with the common black man as OJ did, at least OJ didn't lie about it, only his lawyers did. The NFL has been battling criticism from the mainstream left for a while as football becomes less popular, lawsuit mount over concussions etc. So they play nice with all the SJW bullshit because they try to extract as much money as possible for as long as they can. I think though that they are legitimately waging whether they would lose more money by punishing Kaepernick vs supporting him,...

Right! Only Christian Republicans have things in common with the common black man!

I'm Libertarian leaning. Religion is a private matter. I have spent many many nights close to MacArthur Boulevard at an ex's place, woke up to gunshots, shopped and went out there countless times. Volunteered at a soup kitchen. May not have much weight, but probably gives me more exposure than Kaepernick. There are a lot of problems there, none of which can be solved by somebody with a 114MM contract kneeling at the Anthem. There is no oppression, only misunderstanding. Black and White should come together and celebrate the US instead of listening to the divisive voices fanning the divide and conquer of the lower and middle-class.
