On the other hand, the Trump’s Christmas card begins by saying “Merry Christmas,” along with a “Happy New Year.”
What concerns me is the signature of a 11 year old on that card. What's up with that?
Patrick saysOn the other hand, the Trump’s Christmas card begins by saying “Merry Christmas,” along with a “Happy New Year.”
He said he was going to bring that back and not make anyone afraid to say it during his campaign. He held true to those words as president!
I'm glad there are so many people who care more about forcing people to say "Merry Christmas" than they do about the US economy. Or the environment. Or the US Debt. Or net neutrality. Or civil forfeiture. Or a million other much, much, much more important.
But God forbid someone say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas!
This is the current American Christmas tradition....
Christmas is a time when silly working-class people buy things they really cannot afford in-order to give them to people they do not particularly like. The best way to handle Christmas is simply not do it, turn-off the phones, and of course the television, fix yourself a stiff drink and sit in-front of the fire and read a good book. It's a time when Madison Avenue manipulates square-eyed simpletons, charities and Church's of all denominations to make money.
As for Christmas being an "American" tradition there are a lot of other countries laying claim to that tradition and way before we became a country.

The problem is the leftoid knee jerk reaction when somebody says Merry Christmas and refers to santa as he and paints him white.

But you're OK with rightoid idiots saying that boycott Starbucks because they used plain red cups? Or boycotting a mall because they didn't have elves?
If they choose not to frequent Starbucks or the mall sure, that's their right, similarly the leftoids have the right to boycott orgs they don't like. What nobody has a right to is to force the other person to change their words, and there unfortunately the leftoids are front-runners. I think that's all this thread is about.
Excellent. I love Christmas. It's an American tradition.

That's not how I read it. Patrick clearly wanted Obama to use the term Merry Christmas. Seems like Patrick is playing identity politics.
I read it as if the Dems want to win again they would be well advised to use the word of a very popular Christian holiday of a Christian nation instead if shying away from it.

And that's not identity politics?
A reaction to identity politics.

A reaction to identity politics.
Nope--saying Happy Holidays is the opposite of identity politics. It's treating everyone equally, no matter their religion.
Forcing one to say Merry Christmas IS identity politics.
You got that backwards. Everybody was saying whatever they wanted before the left started making a big fuss about it w/ their identity politics.

You mean people realized that that not everyone is Christian and decided to be polite by wishing Happy Holidays?
Please explain how being inclusive and not honoring only one religion is identity politics. I'm all ears.
What concerns me is the signature of a 11 year old on that card. What's up with that?
Forcing people to change their speech is identity politics and oppressive. Inclusion has nothing to do with preemptive obedience in fear of hurting muh feelings.
Liberals are always the consummate Grinch stewing over consumerism.
Christmas has been dying for decades, which is why you start seeing Christmas imagery before Halloween.
Yeah it's a nice change. BTW his campaign also sent out cards last Christmas... I got one. I thought that was nice as well.
Jesus was born to command the whole world to eat the poor and minimize taxes.

If you want to make the Democratic Party great again, a good start would be to consider that most people like Christmas very much, and don't like being jumped on for expressing good wishes. Why let Trump take all the credit for being on the side of ordinary people? Start saying Merry Christmas, and if someone doesn't like it, wish them happiness anyways, because they are the one being unreasonably dour and judgmental, and could use a little cheering up.
