Decades of illegal immigration have set back the economic fortunes of African American men, robbing jobs and wages and even playing a role in low marriage rates and putting more blacks in jail, according to a commissioner with the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.

"Illegal immigration has a disproportionately negative effect on the wages and employment levels of blacks, particularly black males," said Peter N. Kirsanow. ...

Among his claims, most illegal immigrants are low skill and compete with black males for jobs. But, he added, "the obvious question is whether there are sufficient jobs in the low skilled labor market for both African Americans and illegal immigrants. The answer is no." ...

Steven A. Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, provided evidence that immigration results in $531 billion in lost wages, largely by boosting competition for work, driving wages down, a benefit to employers.

It is racist to support illegal immigration. Black American citizens directly suffer from it.

Of course this is only logical.

No doubt about this. To be precise, Blacks willing to do hard work are the ones who lose the most.

Maybe if they promoted the notion that these labor jobs are great ways to case places out for burglary.

CIS is an anti immigrant, all immigrants not just illegal, group with a long history of research that varies from dubious to simply false. They are not the best source for any kind of objective analysis.

Here's a funny - Steve Bannon blames Asians of taking jobs from Latinos, African Americans !

Bannon’s assertion that Asians comprise the majority of tech C.E.O. positions is way off the mark. A recent study by Ascend, a nonprofit group for Pan-Asian business leaders, concluded that although Asians and Asian Americans are well represented in lower positions at companies— 27 percent of professionals at Silicon Valley tech companies — less than 19 percent of managers, and fewer than 14 percent of executives at Silicon Valley tech companies are Asian or Asian American.

Instead of having an overabundance of Asians in leadership positions, the report’s data strongly suggests that systemic bias prevents Asians and Asian Americans from moving up the career ladder in proportionate numbers.

Ascend also found that when it comes to career advancement in Silicon Valley, race trumps gender. It found that U.S.-born White men and women are 154 percent more likely to have top exec...

There's nothing wrong with the article clearly that's why there's plenty of posts attacking it and the author but failing to make a point. The reality is that everybody is competing for jobs against everybody else and it's only logical. And in a nation that means citizens first unless the immigrant has an exceptional skill benefiting the country.

Don't mind a healthy debate. But even the biggest leftists need to acknowledge that if illegal unskilled immigration would be beneficial countries would all open their borders amd compete for them instead of closing them, incl. Mexico. They should be thrilled about all the immigrants from central America.Let's leave them for them.

Its a complete faux outrage on the left. Of course additional bodies make it more difficult for low skill workers to achieve higher pay.

When they are illegal and not necessarily paid on the books, or even provided legally required benefits and minimum wage, it crushes unskilled workers all the more. To deny so is akin to denying the ground gets wet when it rains.

Illegal foreign workers also compete with American teenagers for jobs.

The laws of supply and demand apply to labor. The more labor supply there is, the more pressure down on wages.

I know some black young people in Florida who voted for Trump on this issue. They realize that if they are poor and have few job skills, importing more poor with no job skills from Guatemale, Mexico, etc. just makes their situation worse.

One of the interesting things is that some businesses in Florida clearly do not hire foreign illegal workers. A local food chain Pollo Tropical feeds everyone but has posted that they use E-Verify. The people working there are mostly black American, Cuban, and others.

Illegal migrant factoid; the coast of Florida is not hard to send boats to from the Bahamas. In Jupiter and Juno Beach, there are no lights shining near the beach where thousands of sea turtles nest. The lights bother the turtles. The other year a boat was washed up that brought people from Haiti, Jamiaca, etc. by way of the Bahamas. See a map how close to Florida the Bahamas are. The ocean between the Bahamas and Florida is very tranquil, it looks like a lake most of the time. Boats just land here and there in South Florida and the people scatter.

There is no time limit on that.

@Patrick I can def see movement now - while the personal attacks continue I see more and more people jumping into discussion on social media like facetwat and NOT holding back on their support for Trumps immigration policy, and my leftoid acquaintances are scaling back a little after learning that quite a few are not on board with the leftoid lies and call em out on it. We might reach a tipping point soon if Trump's ratings continue to improve where even the fake news media will need to stop lying.

Can you explain California then?

No other state has taken in more illegal immigrants - yet California has the highest poverty rate in the country and the highest percentage on welfare despite being the 5th largest economy in the world with super high taxes and near veto-proof Democrat majorities running the State.

Yeah so you add supply to the job market but it doesn't lower the price (i.e. wage). What planet do these people live on?

Feux Follets says

This is a repeating story. There is some competition from "illegals" but not nearly enough to deny the obvious that these teens simply do not want to work and would rather do something else.

Maybe they don't want the jobs because these would be BS jobs that offer no carrier paths, no way forward, and just barely keep you on the treadmill and in poverty. It's not like they would learn something useful, or meet important contacts by working.

It's deeper than just having more labor supply: employers gained a position of power where the lower half of the country labor pool is basically screwed and has no path out. But having a virtually unlimited labor pool is definitively the strongest part of their position. You don't like the wage? There's a guy behind you willing to replace you.

Inconvenient facts for the progressives. How long until they drop immigration and find another bullshit issue to lie about?

Feux Follets says
Instead of each country blaming illegals, refugees - whatever, might be a great time to do a root cause analysis and figure out why all of these people are on the move and do something about the cause, not the effect.

Yeah, solve world hunger and broken countries. A program, for the arrogant and naive to consider.
If they knew they couldn't cross the frontier or be automatically deported, they wouldn't come.

And so they come because of your good will.
There's a root cause you could fix.
22   Heraclitusstudent   2018 Jun 25, 2:46pm

Feux Follets says
They come solely because of someone's good will or try to stay alive another day ?

No, a lot of poor people stay alive.

The European migration crisis didn't start when the war in Syria was burning, instead it largely emerged when Merkel signaled that the door was opened. I suggest you study when it started and why. Good will it was. Or maybe long term demographic calculations.

Feux Follets says
How about the collateral damage to populations caused by proxy wars ?

Believe me, these wars are started by people who think they can make things better. If only we can remove that Tyrant or that one, things will be better. If we remake the middle-east in our own image, things will be better. Etc, etc, etc.... The arrogant and the naive. And those that are both.

Feux Follets says
Since my first paid work experience at age 14 I learned responsibility, accountability, made contacts, ethics, and much more than I ever would have starting into an I-Phone/I-Pad screen.

For a teenager nowadays, working to flip burgers for mc Donald teaches you how dead-end, under-payed, mind-numbingly repetitive and skill-less a job can be, and nothing more. They rightly conclude that any hour they spend there would be better spend studying to escape such condition.

This is not solely a U.S. and or California problem but that doesn't register with Team Trump supporters.

The world wouldn't have a "rapefugee" problem unless a coalition of countries hadn't upset the apple cart in the Middle East by invading a sovereign country based on false information and outright lies about weapons of mass destruction.

WTF you on about?

We are talking about Mexicans, South and Central Americans. Not to mentions thousands and thousands of Asians that overstay their visas.

I asked specifically about California and you going about Booooosh and the Iraq war.

California has the highest number of immigrants (both legal and illegal) and the highest poverty rate.
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/05/14/15-states-with-the-highest-share-of-immigrants-in-their-population/

Do you think the poverty rate has nothing to do with the high level of uneducated immigrants in California?
26   socal2   2018 Jun 25, 3:16pm

Feux Follets says
I was talking about a worldwide problem and the root causes thereof before you brought up California again in true Team Trump fashion

This thread is about US workers.

If moar immigration is a net good and does no harm to existing workers and our welfare systems as many of the economists argue in your 10 year old links - I want to know why it didn't work in California.

Did California not take in enough immigrants?
27   socal2   2018 Jun 25, 3:21pm

Feux Follets says
And I added to it because this is not a problem unique to this country.

OK - but California is unique. Both in it's astronomical poverty and welfare rates along with having the highest number of legal and illegal immigrants.

Does California need MOAR low skilled immigrants to solve our poverty and welfare problems?
28   socal2   2018 Jun 25, 3:33pm

Feux Follets says
The poverty and welfare problems in the state pale in comparison to the unfunded pension obligations, the ongoing potable water shortage etc.

The "system" is broken beyond fixing in California and many other states.

We can agree on the pension and water problems. Just another embarrassment for the Progressives that have run California into the ground despite a massive private economy and most beautiful environment and weather on earth. But I thought poverty and income inequality (another thing California ranks poorly on) was one of the Democrats' biggest concerns a few years ago?

Can I assume that we both agree that very high levels of illegal immigration can increase poverty and income inequality despite what the egg heads at CATO institute say?

The teens can say whatever they want but they will either need money from a job or from welfare costing the nation and taxpayers. They will apply for those jobs sooner or later when the trough runs dry.

That's good. I hope the right side (heh) stays polite and well-reasoned about the facts of illegal immigration and the harm it does to the poorest US citizens.

The more people who state the obvious, the more likely that the the obvious will been seen.
