I'm not sure which is worse ?

A celebrity saying the sitting President can suck on his machine gun ? (same celebrity is hosted at the White house by Trump)

Or getting spit on for wearing a slogan that is associated by many with racism and hate.

I guess it's a matter of perspective ? There is no objective truth there ?

Who knew ?
61   Shaman   2018 Aug 4, 5:53pm

I saw a guy in Walmart a couple years ago with ISIS tattooed on his neck. It pissed me off but I didn’t attack him.
Is a Trump hat worse than an ISIS tattoo?

There’s always objective truth. If you were concerned about being attacked or assaulted by strangers for wearing your Malcolm X or Che Guaverra T-shirt, would you be so objective? What if you were wearing your Mathlete hat from three years ago and some punk walked up and socked you in the nose saying “math is racist, nigga!” Bet you’d form an opinion pretty fast.
63   Patrick   2018 Aug 4, 5:57pm

@marcus So you admit you're afraid of attack by violent leftists if you wear a MAGA hat then?

Can you come up with a similar article of clothing that would put a leftist in danger of physical attack from the right?

If not, you're admitting that only the left is violent.
64   marcus   2018 Aug 4, 6:04pm

Funny, nobody has anything to say about Ted Nugent's "OBama can suck on my machine gun comment."

I tried to find out what that "stranger Thing's guy was saying. Noteworthy that they cut the second half of the sentence off in that video, even though they play it several times. It's not easy to find it quickly on line, becasue most of the right wing propaganda sites only wanted to quote the first half of it.

Interesting isn't it ?

"punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the meek, and the disenfranchised, and the marginalized" is what he was saying.

Not saying it's right, but it is interesting that those deomonizing him didn't want to play the whole sentence.
65   Patrick   2018 Aug 4, 6:08pm

Marcus, I like you, but if you can't wear a MAGA hat without being beaten up, and can't come up with a counter-example analogous piece of clothing that would get a leftist beaten up, you have proved the point perfectly.

Only the left is violent.

I never denied that there are people out there to be afraid of if you advertise your love of Trump. In San FRancisco possibly the most liberal city in the country it's probably about 2% of the people that might give you a hard time, 1% or so that might vandalize a car with a MAGA sticker - mostly children, 0.3% that would do something physical such as spit on, push, threaten you for having a maga cap, and then something less than .1 % (1 in 1000) that would actually beat you up for having a MAGA cap.

So no patrick I would not be afraid to wear it out of fear of violence. I never was that much of a pussy. That is except for in neighborhoods that I wouldn't be in even without a MAGA cap, where there is too high a chance of getting messed with anyway.

But I wouldn't want to be seen as someone that is either racist or gullible enough to buy into Trumps BS (and also simultaneously tolerant of having such a low class person as our President).
68   Patrick   2018 Aug 4, 6:38pm

The point remains though: the people who will violently assault you for your political beliefs are 100% leftists.

Only the left is violent, and that's on a daily basis all around the country. Worse, violence by the left is 100% excused or ignored by other leftists, including all the mainstream media (NYT, WaPo, NPR, etc).
69   Shaman   2018 Aug 4, 6:41pm

Fuck this I’m getting a MAGA hat to wear fucking everywhere. I haven’t been in a fight in far too long and I’m feeling froggy.
I’ll bet nobody even messes with me.

Except for the fact that this is not true.

http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/presidential-campaign/305749-republicans-employ-double-standard-to-discredit

Obama's election in 2008 was preceded and followed by violent attacks and property destruction targeted against minorities.

Kaylon Johnson, an African American campaign worker for Obama, was physically assaulted for wearing an Obama T-shirt in Louisiana following the 2008 election. The three white male attackers shouted "Fuck Obama!" and "Nigger president!" as they broke Johnson's nose and fractured his eye-socket, requiring surgery.

More frequently, Obama's presidency was marked by effigies of our first black president hanging from nooses across the country, for example in Kentucky, Washington State, and Maine, or being burned around the world. What Trump supporters fail to remember is that following Obama's election, property was destroyed across the country, for example in Pennsylvania, Texas, and North Carolina, and a predominately black church was torched in Massachusetts.

In 2008, anti-Obama protesters lashed out against minorities because of their discontentment with a black man being voted into the office of president for the first time in our nation's history. Conversely, in 2016, anti-Trump protesters are holding mostly peaceful demonstrations because of their discontentment with a man, who has ostracized minorities, being voted into the office of president.

And while anti-Trump protesters have engaged in mostly peaceful demonstrations against the president-elect, pro-Trump supporters have been responsible for a wave of attacks against Muslims, Latinos, blacks, and the LGBT community.

According to Mark Potok, senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center civil rights group, there haven't been "such a rash of hate crimes in the United States since Barack Obama was elected America's first black president in 2008."

From the hill @patrick not CNN

Is there anything analogous that a leftist could wear that would put him in physical danger of being physically attacked by the right?

That article and your gripe is from 2016. Trump is a whole new party. What was the Republican party is being hoisted out of their offices in the primaries.
Even the Democrat voters are done with their asshole politicians. It's a new deal, you can't conflate Donald Trump with what ever the Republicans were doing before.
Trump doesn't worry about the dumb shit, he's not going to debate you over the naughty bits until you get your way and we have Trannies in girls bathrooms.

Or is this worse:

Actor Johnny Depp appeared to threaten US President Donald Trump during a speech at the Glastonbury Festival.

"Can you bring Trump here?" he asked the audience, as he introduced a screening of his film The Libertine.

After receiving jeers from the crowd, he added: "You misunderstand completely. When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?"

He is not the first US celebrity to allude to killing the president.

At a rally in Washington DC, Madonna said she thought "an awful lot about blowing up the White House" and the US rapper Snoop Dogg shot a toy gun at a Donald Trump character in a music video.

black church was torched in Massachusetts.

"Michael Jacques, 27, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to 166 months in prison, to be followed by four years of supervised release. Jacques was also ordered to pay nearly $1.6 million in restitution, including $123,570 to the Macedonia Church of God in Christ.

On April 14, 2011, following a jury trial, Jacques was found guilty of conspiracy against civil rights, damage or destruction of religious property, and use of fire to commit a felony. Jacques’s co-conspirators, Benjamin Haskell and Thomas Gleason, pleaded guilty to the civil rights charges in June 2010. On Nov. 1, 2010 Haskell was sentenced to nine years in prison. Gleason is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 18, 2012.

According to evidence presented at Jacques’s trial, in the early morning hours of Nov. 5, 2008, within hours of President Barack Obama being elected, Jacques and his co-conspirators burned down the Macedonia Church of God in Christ’s newly constructed building where religious services were to be held for its predominantly African-American congregation.
"

There are many other examples, including homicides. Most violent hate crimes tend to be perpetrated by racist and/or anti-gay assailants. These are no longer usually endorsed by the "right," although we do see calls to obscure the data by no longer tracking such crimes or responding to them as a specific category.

A century ago, or even 50 years ago, hate crimes including homicides (e.g. lynching) in the southeastern USA committed by the "right" were often enabled or at least tolerated by local police and mayors, who may themselves have been members of the KKK. That has changed. Since 2015, in California, local police and mayors in San Jose and Berkeley have tolerated violence by AntiFa against Trump supporters. In 2015-17, arsons of black churches tended to be perpetrated by parishioners or ministers wanting the insurance money.

Not true.

Example: Perhaps if there had been more hate for the type of hate that Hitler represented, then he couldn't have gained power.

There are examples of leaders with hateful rhetoric, that actually used hate to gain power. Trump is the strongest example of this in the U.S. in my lifetime.

YOu can deny your own susceptibility to the hate thats constantly propagated on right wing media. You can say "what hate ? I have no idea what you're talking about" until the cows come home. You can talk about all the fake news and bad coverage TRump gets instead of seeing that it's his negative behavior and the type of person he is that gets him the negative coverage.

You mean socialist? I agree. But unfortunately collectivism always attracts the losers and never-beens of society and that's how guys like Hitler and Stalin rise to power, selling fear mongering to those losers. Same with the Democrat party.

Yes, but I don't see the parallels like I see with the Democrat party vs Collectivist governments.

Democrat / Socialist / Communist / Nazi
-------------------------------------------
- Supports Gun Control
- Supports state ownership of key services and industries (health care, education, etc)
- Supports wealth redistribution
- Strong identity politics platform
- Has engaged in large national scale oppression that robbed millions of freedom

I could go on and on.

Trump consistently argues for everyone to gather under the Banner of America.

Whereas the Democratic Party and their Media Allies hire open racists, people who cavort with known racists and refuse or only grudgingly/partially distance themselves from them under immense pressure, gloat about the end of the majority then deny doing so, etc.

We have examples on this thread and others of a privileged Asian Gal issuing tweet after tweet that can only be described as racist. What's funny, is that her supports don't deny they're racist, but that we have no right to complain because "Real racism" needs "Power+Privilege", even though Jeong has both given her background & role in society. Far more of it than 98% of White Males.

Marcus, can we repeal the 1960s Immigration Bill? Ted Kennedy promised when he was pushing for it that it would not fundamentally change the demographics of the country. Well, since that happened, then we should repeal it, yes?

LYing and selling hate and fear was all I could see from Trump in his campaign. Combined with a business career and history as a person that made his campaign rhetoric pale in comparison.

THose who like Trump, for some reason do not see the things that scream out as to the kind of person he is. Nor do they acknowledge the hate and fear he was selling and that the right weing has been selling for decades.

CBOE will say, "Give me an example." We've been watching a constant shit show 24/7 and he says give me an example. You guys are so far beyond deluded.

I can agree about identity politics and excesses that sometimes go as far as to be anti-white racism on the far left, and coming from SOME minority individuals. But if you can't acknowledge what I see in TRump, then maybe we are at the point of a civil war and race wars. But if it comes to that, I will always blame TRump and you asshole Brietbrt, Fox News, talk radio followers for being so dishonest with yourselves.
