A large problem w the left's moral outrage strategy is that nothing actually gets discussed.

The wall is RACIST so noone ever discusses the cost/reward of a wall, and instead argue the wall IS or IS NOT racist.

Similarly, screaming about fake rape charges means noone ever discusses whether Kavanaugh is a judge we want defending our constitution.

While I agree we can not cave as a society the left's mock moral outrage, do we really want a judge who feels mass data collection is ok?

How can a US judge stop mass data collection when it can be done (and is done from anywhere in the world?

Kavanaugh's record or any facts

Please share high and low points from his history.

That's the point of this thread. Keep the fake rape claim discussions elsewhere.

What are Kavanaugh's relevant legal opinions? Let's discuss the facts of his actual resume

I'm no legal expert. I would like to see a SC that protects our individual rights as citizens over our govt especially when it comes to individual privacy vs govt secrets.

I dont pretend to know the details of the legal argument or the real world implications of mass telecommunications technology.

Are you arguing that privacy and technology cant exist together? Seems like we could pass consumer protections that limit flashlight apps from knowing our geolocation, etc... and then determine that our federal government has no business parking through privately collected data.

How anyone can claim to want a short fused drunk like Kavanaugh in the SC is beyond me.
Kavanaugh has been a judge for how long? How many FBI background checks? And you still believe CNN's rhetoric that he's a short-fused drunk. The guy fought for his life after being falsely accused, and now he's short-fused? Grow up. You're reaching for anything.
6   CBOEtrader   2018 Oct 2, 9:05pm

There are 6 threads discussing the drama.

Keep this one about his qualifications maybe?

Both Trump and Kavanaugh are the only ones who I have heard say that Kavanaugh is an alcoholic
So Kavanaugh is currently an alcoholic? Can you provide a source for that?
8   lostand confused   2018 Oct 2, 9:27pm

I am not a fan of mass surveillance-but in the age of google, facebook et al is the govt any worse? What I would like is our rights be protected. If warrantless surveillance si going on-can we be prosecuted by evidence collected???

Those are questions and what about this stupid FISA courts?? I mean the chief justice presides over this stupid court-why??? If theynspy on the President over a Russian produced Hillary document and subsequently launch a special counsel on said fake evidence-what goes on fort he average man???????????????????????

How many ordinary men are in jail or pay fines due to these vile tactics? I wish dems can forget trump when confronting these serious issues and go issue by issue-too much to ask for.

You seem to be misinformed, stop letting FoxNews tell you what to think

"I was surprised at how vocal he was about the fact that he likes beer, and he's had a little bit of difficulty, I mean he talked about things that happened when he drinks -- this is not a man that said ... that he was perfect with respect to alcohol." -Trump

I drank beer with my friends. Almost everyone did. Sometimes I had too many beers. Sometimes others did. I liked beer. I still like beer. -Grabanaugh
lol, wait...are we talking about now, or 35 years ago?

I approve of the strategy of actually discussing Kavanaugh's legal opinions.

Not only does it get to the heart of his qualification (or not) it also clearly points out the the current lynch mob hysteria is, well, lynch mob hysteria.

I think he’s fine. He’ll balance out sotomayor

The problem is that if he loses now, it’ll solidify using fake sexual allegations as weapon against all men. I can’t support that.

He comes across as a normal, heterosexual white male teenager of his generation and this is unforgivable today, but the only thing they have against him.

This is horrible reasoning

Trump is doing a good thing by pointing out the danger that false allegations pose to all men now that men are presumed guilty without trial.

We should thank Trump.

Yesterday, President Trump highlighted the problem of "guilty until proven innocent" in America. He stated, "It's a very scary time in America when you can be 'guilty' of something you may not be guilty of."

The comment resonated with millions of Americans, both Republican and Democrat. His statement has attracted extensive media coverage, as well. A Google search at 8am ET this morning on the words, "very scary time for young men in American" found over 250,000 "hits."

To our knowledge, this is the first time a sitting president has ever spoken out on the problem of false allegations and the presumption of innocence.

Please convey your thanks to the White House Comment Line: 202-456-1111. Or send an email: https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

It's the exact same tactic.

I frankly enjoy that he likes beer. Seems like an honest dude in that situation. Not being sarcastic either. He told it like it was at that time and that he still likes beer now. He could have just made shit up and said he never drank knowing it was a false allegation.

Fact is, any justice over 70 is very likely heavily medicated on stuff that's not much worse then a random beer(s). I highly doubt he'll be drunk on the bench when he's eventually confirmed. They're all old farts for the most part and are all on some mild form of opioid to deal with some random health problem very likely (back pain, etc).

Beer is Tylenol compared to what a lot of people take for daily ailments. A couple beers is less harmful then popping 4-6 Tylenol a day most likely. Or any prescription drug for that matter. Fact is, him being selected has almost 99% chance of not influencing you (anyone here) for the rest of your life. Not sure why we get so worked up about this stuff.
22   NDrLoR   2018 Oct 3, 11:26am

“There are a lot of good reasons for liberals to oppose Kavanaugh,” wrote Benjamin Wittes, editor in chief of the legal blog LawFare. “He’s a genuine conservative who will do a lot of the things liberals are afraid of. One of the reasons to oppose him is not that he’s some kind of terrible person. He’s a thoroughly decent and honorable person.”

The American Bar Association recommended his confirmation.

Accusations against Clarence Thomas were made only ten years after the fact when both Thomas and Hill were married professionals, not teenagers 36 years earlier.
24   MrBark   2018 Oct 3, 11:47am

What I found most troubling was his partisan rant during the hearing and vowing revenge (what comes around goes around). Not to mention the multiple times he blatantly perjured himself and got into an elementary school back and forth with a senator. He's not fit for the bench, find someone else and let's move on...

Because fucking libruls set draconian minimum age for concealed carry. Not to mention anything beltfed (accept no substitutes!) is outright banned.
27   rdm   2018 Oct 3, 12:18pm

Can he be an impartial caller of "balls and strikes" ? That seems very improbable given his temperament and statements revealed at the hearing. He is damaged goods and its mostly his fault in reacting in the hearing as mean slobbering drunk might act. Let's move on, I am sick of the whole thing. Trump can easily find another conservative to replace him. But he thinks it better politics to have a fight, win or lose. Not good for the country or the court.

Please let us know which judge is impartial? Each judges vote can almost be predicted, on almost every topic, every time. Let's not fool ourselves.
30   ForcedTQ   2018 Oct 3, 4:31pm

In my opinion he is not. I am not stating this due to any party affiliation, only based on principles and what a supreme court justice is bound to duty by the Constitution of the United States of America. For the record, both Kagan and Sotomayor would be out on their asses as well.

Principle over party. He keeps mentioning precedent. He would not be there to judge on precedent, so he's out on his ass.
