As an American scientist I must say: Metric is way fucking better!

My 3rd grade teacher proclaimed we'd all be switching to metric soon. Never happened. Maybe she didn't realize how many American's still didn't (and still don't) believe in evolution.

I use metric for everything mostly, base 10 makes sense in the city for science anything.

But I do get reasons why so many use feet/inches, out on the farms life is different, not much science, measuring things in horses and feet still works. It's hard for them to visualize things in metric. As long as no one is forcing anyone, we are fine. My science classes back in the days even were all in metric, although they taught us conversions too just in case we ever need to deal with inches and feet.

Aviation world-wide still uses the "old" measures. Altimeters world wide are still in "feet." All distances are in nautical miles. Speed in knots.

In fact, if the French were truly smart when inventing the metric system, they would have made the meter 1,000th of a nautical mile, not one millionth the distance from Paris to the north pole. One Nautical mile equals one degree in latitude.

It is base 10 only for the simplest measures. How many Dynes in a Newton? Also, how come not 100 seconds in a minute, 100 minutes in an hour, and 10 hours per day?

A nautical mile is 1852m instead of 1609m for "miles".

The international nautical mile was defined in 1929, a long time after the French created meters.
There were all sorts of miles before that. The British nautical mile. The U.S. nautical mile. The original Roman mile....

The metric system is base 10. Everyone knows we should be moving to a base-8 number system! Once we move to base 8, then we can move to a base-8 metric system!

Arc-minute, not arc/minute (which doesn't make sense either.)

An arc-minute is 1/60th of a degree of arc; an arc-second is 1/3600th. It's a measure of angle.
