Anyone wants to risk a bet on the eventual number of sick people? Dead people?

You can see by the hot african countries not getting any traction in infections that it's very heat susceptible. If we had actual globull warming and not the fucking coldest spring ever in CA we would get out of the woods much sooner. Greta and the church of globull warming followers want more people to die! How dare they!

The luxuries and fixations of the culture wars may finally be over. Nobody will mourn its passing, because nobody conclusively won it, or ever could. In Samuel P. Huntington’s magisterial Who Are We? (2004) he noted that the absence of an external ‘other’ to rally against usually undermines the unity of a society. Divisions and grievances multiply. Cultural battles replace political process. Huntington could see a future America with only an Obama-style ‘creed’ as the basis of its polity. Following such a trajectory this America evolves into a deglutinated confederation of ethnic, cultural and political tribes with nothing in common save geography. Like the Ottoman Empire, or Austro-Hungarian Empires before it, the USA dissolves in an acid bath of competing identities.

But then again, maybe not. Maybe, as the learnèd philosopher Matthew McConaughey posits, COVID-19 is the external ‘other’, the enemy, that can bring America back together again.

Nah... I thought 911 was bringing us together but look what happened a few short years later.

911 reinvigorated the Left, it gave them fresh Allies and a common enemy, Western Civ and Christian White Males. They dusted off all their anti-colonialism rhetoric of the 60s, and added LGBTQ+ to it as proof Amerikkka was OPPRESSIVE!

While studiously ignoring Islam's LGBTQ record, of course.

We're coming in anywhere between 25%-30% new infections again today with testing now at high capacity. While we're probably the last nation to peak this growth is less than what China and Europe experienced. If we get New York under control which now accounts for ~ 50% of infections then we should be fine soon. The good news is that European countries are now mostly between 10%-15% new infections, some up to 25%, but definitely the European curve looks like it's starting to flatten. Everyone just needs some warm weather now. More globull warming!

Damn, hard to even look without the desire to share germs with her.

What are the fcking odds that a heat susceptible virus pandemic engulfs CA during the fcking coldest winter and spring ever. March and april always used to be good for the first intense heat wave of the year. Instead we are bracing for another arctic storm. More! Warming! Now!

Saw a Chinese woman picking mussels of the rocks on the Pacifica coast today. Almost laughed.

Two leading Hong Kong microbiologists said it is easier for people to remember the coronavirus as "Wuhan virus" and slammed the culture of wild meat consumption in mainland China, saying mainlanders have forgotten the bitter lessons of the 2003 Sars outbreak, RTHK reports.

Even a Chinese guy says we should call it the "Wuhan virus".

ALL CULTURES ARE EQUAL!!!!!!

Now that testing is happening at high capacity we will get the real numbers, we may come in between 40%-50% of new infections today. Cepheid just got a test approved that gives results within 45 minutes, that's a huge breakthrough, as testing and tracing will be able to reduce quarantines and make the ones put in pace more effective. The "good" news with the increased testing and case count is that the death rate in the US is now around 1% and will probably continue to drop as more less serious cases evolve with massive testing. NY continues to be epicenter. Europe continues to be flat in growth, we will see soon if it has reached its peak

Thanks @mell please do keep posting the latest statistics.

When you say "Europe continues to be flat in growth" you mean that the daily increase in new cases or deaths is a fixed percent, right?

The fact that this is disproportionately affecting NY, WA, and CA seems like proof of karma. The same people that were so pro-globalization and now being more fucked by globalization than others.
1062   mell   2020 Mar 22, 10:44am

It's still growing but roughly at the same rate. So the acceleration is flat.

@Patrick

this is really the best site, for the US you can drill down into the states as well by following the link:

I won’t believe any of those numbers until people with milder symptoms can get tested without 1)being rich or famous
2)being admitted to a hospital with pneumonia
3)kissing someone in China yesterday

I still haven’t been able to be tested. Thank God I am recovering, still have some chest pain/congestion/cough. It’s been about 13 days. I have given up hope of everything being tested.
I’ll just go back to work and hope for the best.
As so many others are doing now.

Thanks mell, several sites claim that cases and deaths in Italy "declined" day over day, but it doesn't look like that from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/
1066   Patrick   2020 Mar 22, 11:17am

One example:

According to this article, there were only 1991 new cases in Lombardy today compared to 3251 yesterday. 361 new deaths(Article in Italian)
