Ignoring reality here. Trump being an asshole is not why he is popular. In fact most Trump supporters would like Trump to tone down on the ass-holiness. Trump's support comes from his policies on illegal immigration, pro-USA stance, and his trade policies with NAFTA and China.

Bloomberg and Trump do have one thing in common - both are too rich to be bribed, so both are attacked under the "me-too" banner. Both are also newcomers to the Party they are running on - Trump sort of annexed the Republican Party and "Democrat" Bloomberg only held office as a Republican mayor. The differences are not so much personalities, but policies. Bloomberg and Trump disagree on illegal immigration, 2nd Amendment, AGW, nanny state power, and trade policies. If the contest is between Trump and Bloomberg, voters can pick which policies they like.

Marcus is right here, I think - but Bloomberg is not an unapologetic king-sized asshole who does not care about consequences. If he would have been, he would have totally owned stop and frisk, and said that he will keep doing it, etc. Same with horse faced lesbians quote - and please note that Bloomberg was right on both of those occasions.

I think it's more complicated, and HeractitusStudent referred to this. You're right, Trump is a more complete asshole. But Bloomberg is in a different zone. A lot of democrat voters can appreciate a little assholishness of for example ignoring the sjws to a certain extent. But they aren't going to go for a total asshole. It's a very different base. And it's not just a base, it's an American majority of very decent people. Many moderates don't care for the far left, or require excessive political correctness, but at the same time they like remaining decent and don't feel that simply remaining decent and not hateful or absurdly fearful of immigrant invaders is a concession to the PC crowd or the far left.

Trump has done very little that wasn't already policy going back a decade to stem the inflow of illegals. Dems just didn't promote it becasue part of their base doesn't love it. It's a political game, no real change in the policy. The wall ? Give me a fucking break.
