Trump administration set to pay hospitals for treating uninsured coronavirus patients.

The Trump administration is expected to use a federal stimulus package to pay hospitals that treat uninsured people with the new coronavirus as long as they agree not to bill the patients or issue unexpected charges, according to two people familiar with the planning.

The plan, which could be released Friday, comes as the White House faces mounting criticism for not launching a special enrollment period for people seeking coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Congressional Democrats also are pressuring the administration and insurers to waive treatment costs for the growing number of Americans who are losing employer-provided health coverage as job losses mount.

Hospitals treating the uninsured often bill patients for the difference between the amount they get from the government and the cost of care. The uninsured also may get bills for care provided by doctors who aren’t directly employed by the hospital. Both would be barred under the administration proposal, and hospitals would likely be reimbursed at current Medicare rates, people familiar with the planning said.

Hospitals are eager to get funding and administration officials are working now to determine how the money will be divided, according to one of the people familiar with the planning. It will go toward revenue assistance, covering the costs of the uninsured, and the needs of hospitals. For example, needs may be higher for hospitals in the pandemic’s hot spots.

Hospitals, which typically bear the brunt of costs for uncompensated care, have been bracing for an influx of patients. Hospitals of all types provided more than $38 billion in uncompensated care in 2017, according to the American Hospital Association.

With over a million people losing employment each day with no real end in sight, capitalism just doesn't work. With an extra 40-60 million additional people without medical insurance, the system will change.

Can you go to your local gas station or grocery store and get supplies/groceries/gas? Capitalism is working just fine my friend. In this scenario all other forms of government have crumbled. You're just not seeing it yet. This will be China's Great Depression. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a civil war. Probably a coup attempt at some point is most likely.

Most of our problems so far have been due to excess regulation by the FDA, CDC, and others which prohibited private business from developing tests and medicines and tightly regulated how PPE could be manufactured. Trump has been lifting such regulations and restrictions to get much needed supplies flowing.

Somehow I don't think that $2 trillion in bailout funds from the federal government and another $4 trillion from the Fed to bailout the financial system is what people think capitalism is about. You know Freddie and Fannie are going to need a few trillion, the states a few trillion (excess unemployment & pension bailouts), and the banks a few trillion. More money is going to have to be given to corporations. On top of that are the trillions that are going to be written off. Very few will commit their own capital to starting a small business when there is the threat of a state governor just shutting it down at his whim, and nobody except the too big to fails will loan money to such endeavors. Commercial real estate is a lost cause because nobody is going to rent it.

We are just now getting started on the job losses, and insurance premiums are not high on the must pay list.

I had my rant a few weeks ago about how the politicians caved to the media.
