In my opinion, it’s a colossal pump-and-dump scheme, the likes of which the world has never seen. In a pump-and-dump game, promoters “pump” up the price of a security creating a speculative frenzy, then “dump” some of their holdings at artificially high prices. And some cryptocurrencies are pure frauds. Ernst & Young estimates that 10 percent of the money raised for initial coin offerings has been stolen.

The losers are ill-informed buyers caught up in the spiral of greed. The result is a massive transfer of wealth from ordinary families to internet promoters. And “massive” is a massive understatement — 1,500 different cryptocurrencies now register over $300 billion of “value.”

My theory all along. You missed the boat and are now trying to bash Bitcoin with the hope that Bitcoin goes lower so you can afford at least a tiny piece of the pie.

'Cause they're not making any more pie.

exactly! There will never be more than 21M Bitcoin! You finally got the scarcity part down!

Finally, we agree on the traits of money!

I am thinking of buying a hundred acres or so within a couple of hours form where I live, but good plots go very quickly these days.

Do your research big time on farmland. It is an easy carry if you have the cash, but there's considerations like soil quality, drainage, location, etc. The farmers are all experts in this and will screw you every chance they get. Like any industry. Also, from my experience when you go to sell it, the neighboring farmer usually is the one that wants to buy it unless there's industrial, retail or residential development coming. That's when you make bank from appreciation. Or even develop it yourself if you're inclined to (pain in the ass, but where the $$$$ is).

G36 says

Artificial scarcity. Actual scarcity, like the above farmland comment is of actual value. As cities grow and suburban subdivisions pop up there's less farming land. Thing is that land feeds livestock and people. Bitcoin does none of that. BTC literally does nothing except pay electric utilities a fuck ton. It's why BTC is a trading tool. Not an asset or investment. There's no actual value at all, which is why you guys get so defensive. And I think you know it.

I am thinking of it as partially investment, partially possibility to get out of city if things go south, and partially place where I can retire. This creates a lot of restrictions wrt what I will buy, thus making process slow. Best would be something that has about 50% farmland and 50% forest for hunting, some water as in a permanent stream, and away from E. Texas whiggers/coonasses who will screw you over whenever possible (that is what my W Texas redneck friends are telling me, although I do not know how much truth is in it. Perhaps it is their perception that everyone who lives in swamp is evil). I know enough friendly locals to figure out if area is decent or not.

there is no need to get the defensive. Your comments are the laughing stock. You cant afford a fraction of one Bitcoin and tell us you would have "sold everything at 18k". A minute later you tell us you only care about 6 figure gains. You lost it and dont know what you are writing. At this point you throw whatever BS comes to mind in the hopes that something will stick.

My suggestion: talk on topics you actually know something about or have a stake in.

No. It's a speculative scheme that depends on incoming money to pay the power bills. The only way out is to find someone to buy it from you. Bitcoin has no practical use and takes the equivalent of two years of power for the average American home to "mine" one bitcoin.

FuckCCP, respectfully, I disagree.
This run is driven by institutions. Nobody here can make the smallest dent in Bitcoins price. Square, PayPal, Guggenheimer, hedge funds are pouring millions of USD into Bitcoin. Sure, some people like Wookie pretend they are big shots but in reality they cant buy a single Bitcoin.

OnVacation puts his money into physical silver coins. I think he should just keep doing this.

Nobody here wants to convince you to buy crypto. Just please stick around when the euphoria starts. I want to see the reactions :)

Back in the early 70's, the brother-in-law of my friend's wife who was living in Houston loved to hunt in the area of a little town called Dime Box, kind of in southeast Texas. He liked it so much he bought 100 acres at $1,000 an acre and built a small cabin on it for when he went hunting. We all laughed at him at how he was going to be paying for that land for the rest of his life. This was just before the OPEC oil embargo and the oil price spike. The price of the land included the minerals and when a test well was drilled it turned out to be a bonanza--they were guaranteed a minimum of $60K a year as far as they could see. They quit their jobs in Houston, moved to Dime Box and built a lovely house onto the cabin and lived productive lives for the next 20 years. He joined the law enforcement of the area and eventually became sheriff, she was a high school teacher. Sadly, he passed away around 2000 from Hodgkin's disease and is buried on the property. The house sits atop a beautiful hill that is terraced down to a small lake and his widow still lives there.

Of Course!

Your comments have been quite entertaining. Keep the BS coming.

"I would have sold everything at 18k" Oh really, you said this right after the correction occurred. A 7 year old can call a local top after the event happened. But why would you have sold "EVERYTHING" if you only care about 6 figure gains?

"I'm good with 9%" Oh really, so how much have you invested to make the 9% a six figure gain. Since you said, you only care about 6 figure gains, big shot? We'll never see a screenshot! Especially funny, since you dont own even a fraction of one BTC.

"Bitcoin is not backed by anything" no shit, the entire point of being decentralized.

"articifical scarcity" noooo shit. How could a digital asset be naturally scarce?

I dont know if you can top this, but we'll see.

Hundreds of thousands. Multiple avenues. I like real estate. We have your standard 401k between the wife and I, both having made 6 figure gains the last 3 years. That wouldn't have happened with BTC over the last 3 year outside of day trading. Sorry. It's not the best asset class by a long shot. It's comical to call it an asset or investment as you guys do.

I'm not a big shot by any means. I save. I don't gamble. I operate a business. I have plenty of skills and means to make large sums of money and not go for a Hail Mary with crypto. I sleep well at night unlike everyone I know that holds crypto. It's delusional. I've made more off passive investments the last three years than any of the crypto cult. Enjoy the pump now. Comes down faster than it went up. I've seen this story before and you guys that gloat about paper gains, but then shit your pants the second the big boys start selling. You ain't a big boy and you'll be the one losing the most. Not sure how many ways I can warn you. Happened last time and that tool disappeared when he lost his ass in BTC on this forum.
219   Bitcoin   2020 Dec 2, 11:18am

So you told us you would have sold everything at 18k but tell us you only care about six figure gains. How does that make any sense?
You tell us about these alleged six figure gains without any screenshots but tell us you are fine with 9% gains. Sure, big shot. Sure.

Reading buddy. Reading....

Crypto did nothing for three years. Same will happen again. I made more money in stocks and real estate than anyone invested in BTC the last 3 years. I don't dox myself and I'm too lazy to make up screen shots like you did. Enjoy the ride. Ultimately you'll freak out and be catching falling knives when your tiny vacation paper gains turns into a loss. You'd move on from commenting back at me if you weren't scared. You are. You should be. I'm solid and doing well. No need to chase get rich quick schemes. Just rich for my age.

Yes, its much better than gold. Bitcoin is gold 2.0. / Digital Gold. You know how divisible it is, how scarce, how decentralized. Probably the reason why you started investing in it. And, its smart money! programmable! Try connecting your silver coin or 100 dollar bill to a laptop. Lol.

I am kinda torn on bitcoins, but the graph here seems to be created by bitcoin fans for bitcoin fans. How come gold is centralized? And how come its supply is moderate? Also, at this point saying that bitcoins are "easily transactable" is wrong - I can't pay with them at my grocery store.

gold is moderate in "predictable supply". You think you found it all until you discover more. Cant happen with Bitcoin.
Thats not the meaning of easily transactable. You can send crypto/Bitcoin within seconds on an app. You cant just send someone gold within seconds. What you pay for with Bitcoin is a totally different criteria. Bitcoin is seen as a store of value, not as a day-to-day currency.
Think about it this way, why should I have paid with a few bitcoins for a cup of coffee a few years ago? Now, I can buy a car with it.
I would never want to spend my precious Bitcoins because a year later they are worth multiple times more. Its an excellent inflation hedge.

Incredible. Leaked Citibank report reveals Citibank analysts estimate Bitcoin will rocket to 300k by end of 2021! Imagine what that will do to the haters who hope it will go to zero. Lol

Why do people assume that they found something that was "leaked" instead of concluding that they may be reading propaganda in which, supposedly, data was "leaked"? The only time you MIGHT be reading data that was leaked is when it shows the company in a bad light or shows criminal intent.

You know how simple it is to destroy a cryptocurrency? There's just a few major exchanges, all you need to do is turn those servers off, and the blockchain ends. Destroy those servers and that the data is unrecoverable.

My bet is that much of the information for these exchanges are actually on virtual machines. Consider the possibility that are stored on AWS - Amazon WebServer.

You don't know who created these, you don't understand the math, you've never moved any "currency" from one wallet to another. This is clearly a Ponzi scheme, however, people got rich off from Ponzi schemes too.
