Yesterday, Trump’s former personal counsel and now US Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba posted a notice headlined, “U.S. Attorney’s Office Announces Task Force to Preserve and Protect the Integrity of Elections.” It was about time. Media ignored the announcement.

The new task force responds to President Trump’s March 25th executive order. It will begin by focusing on three critical election integrity goals, to:

Set up a computer system allowing local, state, and federal offices to share information on voter registrations (and people who are ineligible to vote).

Prioritize enforcement of criminal laws aimed at voter registration fraud, fraudulent ballots, non-citizen voting, people voting multiple times in the same election, and “foreign interference caused by foreign nationals donating to United States elections.”

Ensure state compliance with the voter list maintenance requirements of the National Voter Registration Act and the Help America Vote Act.

It might be the most consequential move yet in Trump’s second-term campaign to restore election credibility— or at least to enforce the law for once. Once again, we see Trump’s genius: he isn’t inventing new laws. He’s using ones already on the books. Previous administrations have ignored enforcement because it was “too political.” But now, the gloves are off.

For decades, the fragmented mess of voter rolls across 3,000+ counties has made duplicate registrations, dead voters, and phantom ballots nearly impossible to detect— by design. By linking systems, this task force will bring something that some election officials fear most: accountability through visibility. The days of voting in New York and Florida in the same election are coming to an end.

Though media ignored it —because they are sticking with election fraud doesn’t exist— the announcement thew up a bat signal, warning NGOs, dark money PACs, and foreign cash funnels that their drive-thru windows of impunity have now closed.

A former U.S. Postal Service employee from Mesa County, Colorado, has admitted to stealing and fraudulently casting mail-in ballots during the 2024 presidential election.

Vicki Stuart, 64, entered a guilty plea on May 5 to charges of identity theft and forgery.

The charges stem from a scheme in which Stuart, along with her associate, Sally Jane Maxedon, intercepted mail-in ballots intended for voters, forged signatures, and submitted them as legitimate votes.

The duo claimed their actions were intended to test the state’s signature verification system.

According to court documents, at least 12 ballots were stolen, with three successfully bypassing the signature verification process and being counted in the election results.

The fraudulent activity came to light when voters reported receiving notifications that their ballots had been processed, despite not having received or cast them.

This week, Baton Rouge affiliate KNOE ran an encouraging story headlined, “Louisiana becomes first state to use DOGE voter maintenance database.”

Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry announced that Louisiana will become the first state to deploy a new voter maintenance database provided by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). I know I’m wearing this word out, but this is another historic development. It is the first time in U.S. history that the federal government has offered states a centralized tool combining citizenship and mortality data to scrub voter rolls. That alone is a seismic shift.

If Louisiana’s rollout goes well, and isn’t blocked by a woke judge somewhere, we can expect more states to adopt it next, like Florida, Texas, and maybe Arizona. In just four months, DOGE has done what no previous American government has been able to do.

According to the criminal complaint, Wallace entered the United States in December 2010 on a six-month B2 tourism visa and did not return to Jamaica as required. In January 2024, Wallace registered to vote in federal elections using an online system that required certification of United States citizenship, which she did not have. Wallace submitted the fraudulent voter registration form via a community college computer network.
In August 2024, still without United States citizenship, Wallace cast a ballot in the federal 2024 Florida Presidential Primary, which included election of a United States President.
Wallace was arrested by agents with the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and investigators of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

Yesterday, Politico ran a story headlined, “Appeals court upholds Texas law requiring ID numbers to cast mail-in ballots.” The sub-headline understatedly said, “Unanimous ruling from a three-judge panel is a setback for civil rights groups.” It’s a setback, all right.

One of the great mysteries of the nascent twenty-first century is the wholesale acceptance of the notion that showing up to vote in person is some kind of terrible burden. But the logic of exceptions carried the day, and now we must all grapple with a voting system as slippery as a hog rubbed down with gallons of P. Diddy’s baby oil.

The pig just got a little less slippery. Yesterday, the Fifth Circuit said it had “no difficulty” finding Texas’s 2023 law requiring an ID number (like a driver’s license number) to be provided along with the voter’s name and address on any valid mail-in ballot. ...

But the Fifth Circuit disagreed. “The number-matching requirements are obviously designed to confirm that every mail-in voter is who he claims he is,” the Court wrote in its straightforward, nine-page order. “And that is plainly material to determining whether an individual is qualified to vote.”

Things could go a lot differently in Texas next midterms. On top of this ID requirement, Texas also recently survived the judicial gauntlet with another law requiring mail-in ballots to be received and counted by Election Day. ...

The Times’s story did not mention whether the “voter’s rights activists” will attempt an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. I hope they do, since that would cement the ID requirement nationwide. Either way, the ID law becomes effective in the meantime. So get ready.
