It was always impossible to defend Taiwan against a modern military right across the straight. Taiwan keeps from being invaded by doing the routine from blazing saddles where the sheriff holds a gun to his own head and says, “nobody move or I’ll kill this n*****r!”
Basically the island has enough destructive capacity that it would require leaving the place in utter ruins. Which would destroy the very reason China wants it back: the infrastructure and technology manufacturing capacity.
As long as Taiwan doesn’t threaten China’s leaders, they can continue to hold themselves hostage.

FYI, electrical grid damage of often easily repaired. It's when things like large transformers get hit, if you don't have the spares. They (traditionally) have had long lead times. Now if you want to get creative and scavenge parts from shuttered industrial facilities (and yes I've done this) you can sometimes get by on that too.

There are also so-called ‘package substations’. They are usuailly in sub-20kV range, but there are several manufactures that make a 24kV and a 36kV packaged substation option. The electric grid is distributed and resilient by design and power relatively easily re-reouted around damaged parts while they are being repaired.

If all you get with your 100 cruise missile barrage is couple of hours of blackouts here and there you are not getting much strategic results while expending strategic assets.

Add to that images of universities, playgrounds and pedestrian bridges hit and suddenly even recalcitatnt Germans stop waffling around and rush in their newest anti-missile hardware:

I think Europeans are at a breaking point. There is no reason for them not to negotiate and broker a lager peace deal that extends into Asia, where all countries are being heard. This US stooge proxy war does not benefit any European country, in fact it impoverishes them. The tide is turning. I already hear that patience is wearing thin w/ Ukranian "refugees" in Germany. Ukrainians should rise up as well and demand peace negotiation instead of this senseless destruction of lives and infrastructure.

Energy is not center to Italy which has a very warm climate overall, they currently suffer more from all the illegal immigrants. Yes they do, but apart from the few mountainous regions the winter is fairly mild. Average winter temperatures vary from 0 °C (32 °F) on the Alps (=mountainous regions) to 12 °C (54 °F) in Sicily roughly. On the coast winters are similar to coastal CA.
