Buried on Page 86 of Stopgap Spending Bill: Congress Extends Pandemic Emergency Powers, Biodefense Secrecy, and Pharma Privileges Through September 2025

Congress looks to extend emergency powers and secrecy over high-containment laboratories in stopgap funding bill.

The U.S. House of Representatives is voting on this bill today.

These laws give the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other top federal officials sweeping, unilateral powers over the American people in the event of a declared—or even a potential—public health emergency. Under these authorities, the federal government can declare emergencies, deploy federalized medical teams, lock down communities, roll out mass vaccination campaigns, and fast-track the use of unlicensed drugs and vaccines. Even state personnel can be reassigned to serve federal priorities.

Congress didn’t just extend emergency powers. Lawmakers also renewed legal authority for total secrecy over government-funded pandemic research, countermeasure development, and the activities of high-containment biolabs working with dangerous pathogens. Americans will remain locked out of knowing where these labs are, what viruses they’re working on, and how vulnerable the nation’s defenses really are.

And if that wasn’t enough, Congress re-upped special antitrust exemptions that allow Big Pharma and government agencies to coordinate in secret on the manufacture, distribution, and stockpiling of pandemic countermeasures—without any public oversight and without the usual competition laws that prevent monopolies.

These laws weren’t passed during a national emergency. They weren’t rushed through during a new pandemic. Congress extended them as part of a temporary funding measure—a 99-page continuing resolution designed to keep the government’s lights on. And buried in the fine print were provisions that give unelected bureaucrats sweeping powers over your life, your health, and your freedom.

They buried all of this in dense legalese—referencing the Public Health Service Act (here)—on page 86 of the continuing resolution stopgap bill.

The Social media blowing up with fickle Trump Larpers bitching about Trump, and kissing Massie's ass.

There were a ton of like 54 follower accounts that hadn't posted in months or years suddenly reply guying starting February 24th. All on Massie and the CR.

Something like half the replies to Catturd and Unseen and DC Draino were bot-like/troll-ish accounts with an overweening focus on one or two issues.

Probably boiler room/bot farm accounts:

"Yes, we have the order from Wichita come in hour ago, please to have contract."

Only one of these men has gotten big things done

...despite being shot, impeached, having his home raided, property siezed, and subject to the greatest media smear campaign in generations.

The other one is a 12+ year Congressman who is famous for saying "NO" a lot and bragging what a libertarian he is on twitter.
14   Tenpoundbass   2025 Mar 11, 6:28pm

This guy is an idiot and seems to be part of the Massie operation network.
This moron is trying to say that there was some conspiracy against Massie to remove him. Rather than what it was, Massie putting himself in a position to oppose Trump and vote in contrary to his record, by voting no on a CR. Also nothing about what Massie did has nothing to do with anything else Massie claims to have stood for. This asshole also said Massie was only one calling Bullshit on Covid. That is a lie, many GOP congress people were, the RINOs were lockstep in making it uncomfortable and unpopular to do anything about it. DeSantis blinked first, anyone says otherwise, is just rewriting History.

See if you can find the actual Tweet from Massie.

Doesn't it seem odd that there's a sudden rush of discoveries just now about things Massie supposedly said, and that there are never any quotes in context with a link back?

Feels like the CIA turned its info-warfare cannon against the one guy opposed to eternal spending increases.

I feel like it's just the opposite, and that the Massie supporters are all legit humans who like his principles and his refusal to back down.

I know Bannon made him persona non-grata years ago on War Room, and called him an "Effete Intellectual"

Note Massie's favorite issue to oppose. It comes up again and again.

I dunno looks like Massie has done well during Biden's presidency.

Had net wealth of $2.8 million back in 2018

Net wealth of $20 million today,

Not bad for a salary of $175k.

Agree with @Patrick here. I'm supportive of Trump, he's achieving a lot and we are still cutting spending massively. But it's ok to have dissent, no politician should be beholden to the party vote, only their conscience. There's a lot of bad stuff in the bill Patrick has unearthed, but not sweating it. If a majority is at stake because not everyone votes in line, then compromises need to be made, instead of castrating the dissenters. If you don't need to rely on their vote, push it through. Let's List Massie's accomplishments. Verbiage and Twitter Gotchas not included. Actual things he got done or at least played a critical role in getting done during his 12 long years in the House.

I'll start: Cast the key dissenting vote to get the debt ceiling raise out of his committee for Biden-McCarthy, giving the government unlimited borrowing until Jan 1, 2025.

What about passing major legislation he wrote or co-wrote? That's the fucking job of Congress critters, after all.
26   Patrick   2025 Mar 12, 10:27am

Lol, Massie's great accomplishment is voting NO on bullshit bills over and over.

If every Congressman did that, we'd have the best Congress ever.

Correct. And legislation can defund or eliminate, not just create new rules or departments. Let's see what DC Draino says:

What if I told you there was a GOP Congressman in office for 12+ years who has never passed a single bill, didn’t believe there was election fraud in 2020, loves Mitch McConnell, raised Biden’s debt ceiling, and is against term limits

You’ll never guess who

The government is a lurching zombie bankrupt corporation already. It's indebtedness is irrelevant. Trump needs ongoing operations to continue to apply his hatchets. Of course, his opponents at this point want to crash his vehicle because it is his vehicle and not theirs.

At some point, the virtual government will have to crash and burn and be reconstituted back to the Republic. Trump is in quasi Republic mode while still needing the wheezing, crooked old Guv Corp. for whatever it is worth for its infrastructures.

We the citizens of the mothballed Republic are not responsible for the Babylonian debt tactics of the Fed and the foreign corporations. Go ahead and hang the debts on them if it's practical to do so to buy time.

Soft on Borders Massie. Never letting the Urgent Good overcome the search for the Perfect in the undefined future.

"Uh, it gave University of Bumville a $5000 grant to research mating muttonbirds migrating from Manitoba, so I had to vote against not letting BP agents process border crossers and finish the wall. We have to be fiscally prudent. No spending on walls until the US National Debt is $0"

It would have be axed. Rosa DeLauro and Dollar Store Obama Jeffreys already were on the MSM circuit this week gleefully rubbing their hands at a possible Republican fight that would kill Trumps momentum leading to a shutdown that would prevent DOGE from continuing to work on IDing waste and abuse.

Two days away from a federal guvmint shutdown deadline. We shall see.

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5191954-senate-democrats-government-shutdown/

"Senate Democrats say privately that they will not allow the government to shut down Saturday, despite growing pressure from activists and liberal lawmakers who want them to kill a GOP-crafted six-month stopgap spending bill.

Senate Democratic sources say Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) is giving plenty of room to centrists in his caucus to vote for the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) if doing so is the only way to avoid a government shutdown at week’s end."

The Massie hate, as best I can tell, started after his Tucker Carlson interview. He pointed out that everyone in congress, Rep and Dem alike, has an “AIPAC guy” who takes them to lunch and advises them how to vote. AIPAC doesn’t fund directly, but controls a large network of donors. He also noted the lobbying group, Christians for Israel, is an aipac creation. Not grassroots, though it poses as such.
