Another Number One: passing KommieKunt unconstitutional laws passed then defeated in court. They must have a hamper at the Ninth Circuit for California crap laws passed. Ninth Circuit is allegedly the most liberal, yet they overturn much of the Kommie legislative output that California tries to foist. The Ninth Circuit should just set up a booth at the legislature. Or, maybe they should set up the booth in Peking.

Encino isn't da ghetto. It's a ritzy upper middle class to wealthy suburb.

I love California. You all can have Texas and Kentucky.

Though I will admit that its not so great if you poor and uneducated.

The truth is in the middle. CA has so many natural advantages that it will always be desired. Plus life during the dot com boom was a never ending party in the bay area and likely for the families in the decades leading up to it. It peaked with RHCPs release of Californication and the Matrix. It had another good run - not as good as the dot com boom - during the housing bubble, but has been ailing ever since. It will eventually come back, gotta get rid of the leftoids first. New SF Mayor is actually decent and taking a few pages out of Trump's playbook.

Interesting that the author of that article entirely ignores the level of crime in Los Angeles, the seemingly endless homeless encampments that should be named Garcettivilles after the mayor that caused them, the miserable traffic, and the insanely high cost of housing, not to mention governmental incompetence at the state and loca level.

The weather and scenery attracts a lot of folks. All you have to see when you are freezing your ass off in the Northeast is the Rosebowl, and you’re gone. But like anything, it gets mundane. Also, like Hawaii, it attracts folks who are lured by the weather and scenery but don’t have a solid plan to thrive. I’ve lived in Encinitas in the North County of San Diego, and the Bay Area, and Sierra foothills. The downside of CA - traffic, too many Mexicans, tax dollar sucking public union pensioners, terrible leadership, and frankly, residents who never experience living elsewhere once settled, and are the frogs in the slowly boiling water.

I hope people like California and stay there.

Too many Californians have lately moved to Texas, probably because of wonderful Texas climate and great scenery of petrochemical industry.

The appeal of Texas is no secret…lots of good paying jobs, cheaper houses, and a better environment for raising kids.

I was just being sarcastic. People run from CA to TX despite CA having outstanding climate and best possible scenery. Must be something about the way how CA is being run…

Sarcastic or not, paying 3-10x's for property because of weather and some mountains is kind of insane. If you make high W-2 income then you could be looking at 13% on top end income taxes. Prop 13 isn't a benefit to a newcomer that doesn't plan to stay for more than 20 years. The new tax rate on a purchase would be prohibitive unless it's foreign cash, which a lot is.

I'm not bashing CA when I comment like this. CA was a top 3 relocation spot we were thinking of 10 years ago. The math didn't add up. We'd have lost $50-80k per year at least living there. Income would have been the same as IL. Makes sense for foreigners to park their cash in real estate there, but not stateside people. CA is probably the worst state to live in as a blue collar or low level white collar worker. NY, NJ, IL are probably in the top 5. OR and WA are up there too, but that's more about the people that live there. I couldn't do those two.

If you are/were in tech though your higher salary in the bay area would have made up for the higher cost. That has changed now as tech isn't the goldmine any more it used to be, hence a bit of an exodus. Another item people overlook is the food, no doubt CA has the best food quality and variety of all states. Loolomg towards the eat coast I really like NH, but the house prices (esp. coastal) and taxes are insane, negating a lot of the income tax benefit. Similar to CA, if you make a lot it's worthwhile.

The Hook! I learned to surf there in the 1980s. There was a static rope that helped you get up/down the cliff. I'll bet it's pretty crowded nowadays! Santa Cruz is beautiful.

It's been completely rebuilt with concrete cliffs and a nice stairway down to the ocean now. When we first came here, before the rebuild, it looked like rickety wood stairs and hard to negotiate. They must have had a lot of accidents just going down and coming back up.

The stairs are a good place to get shit on by the cormorants.

@mell wrt to food TX is not worse, may be even better if you take prices into account. Houston has everything you may want since it is a genuine melting pot with many cultures.

Been to TX, mostly Austin area but also Houston, and I will say the BBQ is unbeatable and the food is good in general. However ethnic (non-mexican) food is better in the CA, esp. in the bay area. Prices agreed, higher here. Next place needs to be east coast for a few, still researching, any tips welcome.

I have to fly in to SF every so often to visit the mother ship. Last month, next month etc.,. and the food has changed. Sure it's high quality etc., but it's hard to find anything with meat in it these days. Granted, I'm not looking in my old neighborhoods on these trips but it seems things lean heavily vegetarian now.

I know biotech has always been paying less which is weird as it requires high knowledge. Now tech only pays a decent salary, still good but not wow anymore unless you go the ML/AI angle. Yeah SF has degraded but I think the new mayor is taking the righ at steep to revive it. Once you go past middle age it's not as enticing anymore anyways. But some of the best spots are still there, house of nanking, ozumo sushi, blowfish sushi (closed), spruce etc. A lot closed new ones emegerged, not quite the city it used to be. Give it 5-10 years to come back.

Btw. you should come out to wine country sometime, amazing wine and restaurants. It's just 1 hour drive from SF. Give me enough advance warning and we can arrange free wine tasting at one of our favorite wineries.

This is Gavin Newsom’s Leadership

“Can anyone tell us what the f*ck is going on in California?”

- Our housing electricity costs double the national average
- Our gas utility rates are 50% above the national average
- We are a top 8 oil producing state yet have the highest gas prices in the country
- We are 11% of the population of the United States, yet have 24% of the homeless
- Proposition 1 passed in 2014 was passed so we'd build more reservoirs. Over 10 years later, not a single reservoir has been complete
- It takes an average of 4.7 years to get through environmental review to do prescribed burns to prevent wildfires
- Our government runs on mainframes from the 1980s
- We have the highest small business renewal fees in the country
- We recently spent $24 billion on the homelessness problem. Our leaders cannot tell us how that money was spent
- In 2021, our population went down for the first time in our history. From 2019 to 2024, our budget grew 60%. Do you feel 60% better off?
- A French train company working on our failing high speed rail project recently left for North Africa because their politics are, and I quote, less politically dysfunctional than ours
- Texas recently blew past California in utility scale solar power production. We can't even build the things we claim to care about now.

As far as food quality, Las Vegas is now on Californias heels(and with apples to apples housing half the price of socal, rents about half also). Only issue is you have to pay for quality seafood since it has to be flow in in daily for restaurants.

It’s not the high end restaurants though Vegas does a credible job there and is not far behind LA and SF. It’s the low end options, especially the Asian food. So many inexpensive low end options. Used to be confined to Spring Mountain, but now is expanded to Henderson, North Las Vegas, and elsewhere. And Mexican food is moving up too, surpassing everyone else in the US that isn’t Los Angeles and San Diego. A few top notch delis too though nothing rivaling Langers or Katz’ yet.basically if you can’t put out well made food in Las Vegas, your business won’t survive. It’s gone from a buffet and casino coffee shop food town 20 years ago, to an ethnic food powerhouse at the $30 and under mark, with a healthy number of high end steakhouses.

And unlike Los Angeles, all of it is accessible with a minimal drive. No hour plus drives to go 15 miles.

Medical is a cesspool of preferential dealing and laundering, as you would expect from our CCP captured politics. It also puts all those illegals on the payroll for their votes. I would imagine in the Central Valley, the figure of those on Medical would be more a solid majority. There are entire corrupt health networks based on it.

... but that gets rolled over every 30 days, right ??
45   Ceffer   2025 Aug 10, 10:01pm

DUI is venue sensitive. In leafy suburbs, the cops love to hand them out and the 'therapy' is a big money maker.

I heard in places like Oakland, they often just catch and release the DUIs they are so common and rampant. They also dismiss a lot of them at hearings because they would overwhelm enforcement. Why do you think all those recidivist drunk illegal aliens with multiple offenses are running people over and having accidents?

I never heard of cops receiving drug tests or breathalyzers on the job. If they got too bad, they might be sent to rehab (at taxpayer expense) and in some places with our libby judges, just let go or white sheeted due to the ongoing PTSD they suffer from the job itself. Alcoholism is very common amongst police.

Cops are unionized, and the unions will apply enormous pressure to cover stuff up. In New Orleans, blacks would show up to work so stoned they were nearly falling down, and if they were in the union, nobody would even tell them to go home, they'd just take them somewhere to lie down.

Can you say 'selective enforcement'? If they publicize this, you can count that there have been much greater and more chronic problems going on before this managed to surface. They may hang a few for optics, but likely they'll just wait for it to blow over then business as usual. With all of the DEI and fecal impactions hired and appointed by the subversives in the last few years, a lot will be swept under the rug or they will have to fire and rehire half the force.

FuckTheMainstreamMedia says

If he enforced this religiously, he would have rebellion in his police force and a good percentage gone quickly. He would cripple the police force, so this is optics again, with maybe a few disciplined, but selective enforcement as usual usual.
