First thing I'd do if I insisted on an EV: put in mechanical door locks and crank window risers.

They aren't paying for road upkeep either and they're heavy. I'd probably unplug one. I'm that guy. I don't like memes, but that's a good one. Cleary not a charging station. Yet in public somewhere.

I don't think EV owners realize that their roads are fucked in 5 years with no MFT's if it gets to 10-15% ownership rates #CA. I hate taxes, but we need roads to function and it has been the best way to fund them.

Won't get there. Grid can't handle it.

Agree. Roads can't though either. Freeze thaw is a biggie, but weight of vehicle is in the same realm. They're heavier cars. And don't pay the taxes like ICE drivers do. Then free charging and government incentives to subsidize the sales. It's a joke.

I'm not buying the whole story. Body too burned? You shoot yourself yet have a license and PASSPORT on you for whatever reason in a rental car and blow it up in front of Trump's Vegas place.

Anyone carry a passport if they're not going international? I do domestic but I'm not driving. Keep it as a backup. Driving I have a license. None of it makes sense and probably never will.

Not to mention the guy was supposedly a Green Beret but the IED he made was wimpy and amateurish and resulted in something closer to a bonfire than an explosion.

Yep. More bull shit. Forgot about the Green Beret part and him being on leave. Couldn't have pocketed a couple grenades or other explosives? A solid steel truck with fireworks in it? Shoots himself. 37. At what point would anyone reading this say it makes sense?

Unless the dude was a war monger why do something at Trump's place as a military guy? Want to go die in another country for no reason and then shoot yourself as you light off fireworks in a steel truck? What? Why?

Yeah, they aren't meant for cold weather. Which is why I think they're reaching market saturation for sales. They'll still sell, but not nearly at the pace they have been the past 3-5 years.

I've been a "hater" but still have never ruled out getting one. I just don't want a sedan or tiny SUV size. And it's a big hell no on trucks. Give me a full sized SUV with 400 miles range, 300 with towing and you have a customer potentially. Until then I'm out.

Hell the CA residents that lost their homes and had only Teslas when you evacuated. I'm sure the super chargers have no lines at all (eye roll) and won't for years. I suspect the inventory of used Teslas is going to skyrocket over the next year at least.

If you can afford transport out of state and have wanted a low mile Tesla I'd be looking at used in 6 months in the LA area. I think a lot of people are going to dump them. I'd bet the homeowners in the areas burning 1 Tesla per house or .75 if averaged out.

Basically I think the fire is a bigger issue for Tesla as EV owners freak out. Hotels only have so many chargers. CA has the most super chargers, but what happens when the next big quake hits? Or more fires? That has to go through intelligent people's minds. You can drive 400 miles in most cars on a single tank. Gas stations were designed for that.

The cold weather is a massive issue. You get stranded here in IL right now at 5ºF, enjoy with no heat or power. If a husband or wife have a Tesla around here they have to have a third ICE vehicle. So at minimum you're insuring and maintaining another car that you won't use in the summer. I guess that's cheaper than gas... said no one.

Vast majority of CA is liberal. They don't like Elon aligning with Trump. What they don't understand is Elon gives no shits. His money is already in the bank. He's collected on other businesses. If he has $100M in a fund he can live off that on 2% interest for his life. He has $250,000,000,000 in wealth.

He can live on interest of $2M/yr and still slowly draw it down. Likely long term gains, so taxed lower. The shareholders are the ones that will take a bit of a beating with Tesla. I've said it in other comments that market saturation is near. Some people don't want EV's and never will. Or they're problematic in your location like IL. Or your sales person that needs to drive 400 miles a day which isn't uncommon.

Ford’s F-150 Lightning Is falling behind Tesla’s Cybertruck in deepening EV crisis

(Bloomberg) — Just a year ago, Jesse Acosta fell in love with the smoothness and speed of his new Ford F-150 Lightning (F), an electric version of Ford’s best-selling truck. Now, he wants to get rid of it.

The Lightning’s stated range is 230 miles (370 kilometers), but reality never seems to reflect the conditions necessary to achieve that. As soon as he starts climbing through the mountains on the 130-mile trip from Fresno to his parents’ place in Capitola, the load on the battery depletes the range until it’s down to 40 miles of power. Though he’s never been stranded, the fear of running out of juice spoils every trip. “I’ve had it for a year and the one thing you can’t discount is just how nerve-racking it is,” Acosta, 41, said.

The EV market has turned as mainstream car buyers balk at high prices and spotty charging infrastructure. While the global slowdown hit every automaker, it’s left Ford Motor Co. especially vulnerable because the company has no new EV models coming for more than two years. The manufacturer abandoned plans to build 2 million electric vehicles by 2026, along with any near-term hope of earning a return on the tens of billions of dollars it’s poured into developing battery-powered models.

Rivals have begun rolling out their own electric models — including innovative, lower-cost options — and it will take years to execute on a strategy that could make Ford more competitive. President Donald Trump may make that task more difficult. He’s threatened to impose 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico, where Ford builds its Mustang Mach-E, and to strike a $7,500 consumer tax credit that helps dealers sell battery-powered cars.

“Ford has stalled,” said David Whiston, an analyst with Morningstar Inc., who rates Ford the equivalent of a buy. “For the next couple years, it’s probably going to be pretty ugly for them on the EV side.” As Ford’s EV losses reached a record last year, the stock fell almost 19%. The shares are flat so far this year as Trump’s tariff threats against Mexico and Canada have roiled auto stocks.

Ford is expected to give a forecast on its EV losses and overall business when it posts fourth-quarter results on Wednesday.

It's because the Chinese are sooooooooo far advanced in electric vehicles, they have the lithium the cars need, battery manufacturing, self-driving etc.

They also beat Tesla on price.

The European auto industry is fucked. They ain't tariffing the Chinese enough.

They will simply outright ban them. Like we do.

And it isn't just Chinese EVs but also ICE cars. They will dominate in sales elsewhere in the world.

Bull Shit! Soon I'll be able to pop open the bottom, stick a couple of Duracell(™) batteries in and drive on. Who wouldn't want that? Why do you hate FREEDOM(™)?!

No one wants them where we live and work. Our network is 2k deep friends, family and clients. 2 people have them. Illinoian's and people regionally are gonna have fun with their Teslas Monday to Friday with highs below 10ºF and lows in the negatives and snow finally on the ground. Point is cold AF

Hell my ICE SUV is having trouble starting because of the cold. Older battery, but again a battery. I think you lived in CA and in TX now. Those climates are fine for EV's. 1,000's of new owners in Chicago without a heated place to park are going to learn the negatives about EV's real quick this week... again.

I'm not anti EV, I'm just waiting for a car I want to buy that's EV. None of them are even close to the specs I want. We're building the electric charging/outlet into our new house for EV, but will probably just use it for a space heater at first for the garage. And I'm not overpaying for a car that I can get ICE $20k cheaper. That's 2 nice vacations for a family of five. Or 5 years worth of gas easy and oil changes. I like freedom. I hate being stranded though in ice cold weather.

But...what happened to the environment (and having the perceived right to sanctimoniously lecture the rest of us about it)?

Why didn't they give a flying fuck that Musk was a billionaire before?

Yeah, I likely won't ever buy one, but if he's happy with it who gives a shit? My EV is a golf cart and I can zip around town no problem. This time of year no at 1ºF. Spring through fall it's fun.

I drive too far at least monthly. I can't have range anxiety and need towing capacity. Nothing provides that for under $100k. Not doing that.

Tesla has all the right enemies. Stock is taking a beating since its ATH after the election. But I am confident it will recover.

I was in uber Conservative Idaho last week onboarding a new employee and alot of the blue collar guys that work the construction and mining side of the business were praising Tesla and Elon. Alot of: "I used to hate EV's but finally got to drive in a Tesla and love what Elon and DOGE are doing!"

Picking up a new Tesla Model Y for the wife this weekend. She finally got convinced after experiencing the latest version of Full Self Driving this past month on my car taking it up to Los Angeles and back to visit friends.

Amazing deals right now for inventory Y's now that the new refreshed Juniper Y is being released this month.
