Fuck Electric Vehicles, But More Importantly, Fuck Their Sanctimonious Owners.

The pathetic appeal to emotions that both EV manufacturers and their owners is starting to get tiring. If you want to drive a vehicle powered by electricity, hydrogen, corn oil, fucking bananas, thats your prerogative. But lets not pretend our vehicle purchases are turning the tide of anything.

Electricity for much of the US and world is powered through coal, its just a switch to another equal pollutant. The batteries and materials used in EVs are full of heavy metals, not to mention that when the batteries in an EV combust they fill the air with pollutants, burning heavy metals that fire departments cant extinguish. Lastly, theres not enough data on current EVs to determine their shelf life, given the materials and amount of electronics, i imagine the shelf life of an EV will be significantly shorter than that of an ICE vehicle.

Given all of that, you will still be subject to the bitching and moaning of bugmen and babies who have never changed their oil in their life. The sheer panic that these people attempt to spread and their ever changing timeline of ecological destruction is obnoxious. These arent folks who attempt to clean up India or China(our leading polluters) but they want to concentrate on stripping you of your ability to choose.

The government is only too happy to comply too. The more that bloodsucking government can entangle themselves in transportation, the more control they have over you and your movement. The government gives companies like Tesla "Credits" that they can sell to ICE manufacturers who dont develop EVs, or dont develop them to the point that the government wants. This allows failing EV companies, like Tesla, to stay afloat even though they cant run a business efficiently. Honestly this type of behavior is more akin to a villain from an Ayn Rand novel, both with the governments overreach and with the behavior of many EV owners in general.

Check your Costco parking lot again: there is a rectangular zone between every two adjacent parking spaces, unlike a simple line between parking spaces in almost all other parking lots. It's there because Costco sells goods in large packages that may need more width to load into the back seats of sedans.

It is not the size of the parking spaces. It is the sheer number of people walking around with carts that makes it impressive to see Tesla FSD safely and smoothly navigate around all that pedestrian traffic.

Reality says

That means Tesla FSD is not a chauffer like you promoted/lied, but more like a beginner driver's Ed student requiring the driver's Ed teacher intervene to avoid accidents,

I said it will be like a chauffer within 5 years. Probably sooner.

The rate of improvements from Version 11 to 12 and now version 13 that is coming out this month is incredible.

Reply back if you ever get the opportunity to try the latest version of FSD in person. Otherwise, it's a waste of time debating with a guy that has no first hand experience with the technology. I have about 5 thousand miles logged on FSD now with multiple drives to Los Angeles and back with very few to no safety interventions.

It is hard for me to not believe what I can see and experience with my own eyes!

My thinking was: if it could allow me to take both hands off the steering for a few seconds to open a water bottle on a long road trip, that was worthwhile

I agree - I have an ICE vehicle, but if I'm doing 12+ hours of driving, I'll activate the lane assist and ACC. I have discovered that lane assist gets confused when highway markings are very bright/retroreflective like they are in TX. The car will follow the marking on the right when approaching an exit gore. I think these things are calibrated for northern markets, where reflectors and retroreflective paints cannot be used because the snowplows rip them off the road surface in the winter.

Why would that be particularly impressive? Many ICE cars can do the same. Pedestrians are much slower moving objects than other cars sharing the road, and the shopping carts only make the object bigger than pedestrian alone therefore easier to detect.

Similar statements have been repeated by self-driving vehicle enthusiasts for over a decade. I almost bought a large tract of land in California an hour+ drive from SFBA a decade ago in anticipation of this technology (after being impressed by the MDX). You do realize, when this technology works, the most impacted industry won't be the auto industry but real estate: people would be riding in vans that have showers and kitchen in them making 1-2 hour commute much less of a waste of time.

I have seen multiple videos of 11, 12 and 13 in action. The latest variations of version 13 seem to be going backwards slightly. None of them is even close to not needing driver's full attention during the entire ride. That fundamentally prevents the driver/rider from doing other things like taking a shower, cooking/eating dinner, or even working out with gym equipment, reading or even surfing internet . . . so no real improved value compared to what was available in 2013/2014. That's more than a decade of stagnation! The real future in self-driving automobile is not replacing private cars with automatic taxis (which would be a catastrophe when there is a disaster evacuation need; BTW another reason for ICE cars with gas cans not battery EV), but in replacing some of the demand for packing more housing units into central zones with cars in which people can shower, cook/eat during commute; the latter would result in much more car sales than taxis . . . and making housing more affordable.

I don't want to kill myself or another human based on electronic sensors. My eye work pretty damn well.

Didn't you say you sometimes have health issues impacting your driving?

Seized or blacked out twice now. Not a ding on the car. Maybe I drive better blacked out or I'm just that good of a driver. In a 2nd life I think I'd be a pretty phenomenal F1 driver.

I'd be shocked if anyone here has a better driving record. I'm in cornfields where you can't see and the crossing traffic doesn't stop. You have to have your head on a swivel. No radio. No phone. No distractions. We live a deer heavy population. 41 years old so about 25-26 years of driving. Haven't hit one deer. The only one ran into my car about 3 weeks ago. Still no damage.

No sensor can stop that. The deer and I made eye contact, not a joke out of the drivers window and that doe just slid alongside the car. No damage. In any smaller car it would have massive damage. Maybe airbag deployment. The road and spot I was at was the worst possible timing. Huge dip down to a creek with a curve included. And yes IL does have some hills. Either way, 9 out of 10 drivers would have put their car in the creek or guard rail. I was literally laughing. I love having an old car I don't care about, but take care of it.

If we're talking parking lots, you're negating the dip shit that rips out of their parking spot. Not a knock on Tesla, but it's impossible to stop those idiots. Won't kill you, but your car will get damaged by someone pulling through with a blind spot or backing out quickly. It's why I take the far away parking spot. Get a little walking in as well.

There's the 10% chance you get the ass hole ripping across the parking lanes in the back or 90% chance of someone hitting you in the front spots relying on a back up cam and not using mirrors. Tesla and other cars can't stop other drivers is my point. My eyes are 100% better. A Tesla can't see the 60 year old in a rush walking to her car. That's an oh shit I need to pay attention moment.

T Bone and Rear end accidents are most common. No car can stop either. Head on I don't want sensors. You're going to hit something else if the car tries to avoid it.

OMG! I just saw socal2 portrayed in a movie!

socal2 AND his Tesla.

At first, it seems the character bought it in the nuclear attack on LA. And that his family are the ones who suffer for it as they are stuck escaping Fallout Southern California in the family Tesla he insisted they have.

So far, all I am thinking about at this point is, "Nice! I get to somewhat rib EVs and a little bit maybe on socal2 as well."

But nooooo....it gets better kiddies! Totally better!

This guy eventually shows up at the Homestead, just fine and dandy.

Then he opens his mouth and says way more than the two liners he had at the beginning of the movie. And what comes out is totally socal2. Not anything he said on PatNet, but the same 'logic' and worldview. My jaw hit the theatre's floor. I couldn't believe it.

Then it is later explained WHY he is the way that he is and I couldn't stop laughing over that. The only thing it was missing was the character having Ukey lines to spit out.

I am dead serious. You gotta go see this. Or make sure to watch it when it streams.

Go see socal2 on the not-so silver screen!

Go see sanctimonious EV owners get their due!

Go see...

Dude - I must live rent-free in your head. You act like I advocate for Tesla's due to environmental reasons and support government mandates or something. When all I have done is argue that a Tesla is the most affordable, fun and most American made performance car "I" could afford. I also like supporting non -woke companies run by Elon Musk.

BTW - I just got another free trial of Full Self Driving on my new 2025 Tesla with the holiday update. Version 13 FSD is sooo smooth. I can literally just type in the address of my destination and the car reverses out of my driveway and drives perfectly to the destination.

Hope some of you were smart enough to load up on TSLA shares before the election. My gains from the last month are enough to shave at least 2 years off my retirement date!

That's fine. Just there's not a single EV that has utility for many users for the price. 90% of the population where I live in IL wouldn't touch one. Walking the neighborhood for a little exercise there's not one that I've witnessed in my town of 2,200.

I rarely see them around my area. If you had gains on TSLA I'd probably take them sooner than later. Otherwise the paper gains mean nothing as their market share is saturated at this point. We're about to see more horror stories with EV's. About to see 16ºF highs and 6ºF lows in IL in the coming week.

Your username is obvious so you likely don't need heat where you live. They just simply don't work in cold temps and get milage. An ICE engine produces the heat at no/little cost to range.

It's likely a fine car for Southern California. North of I-70 it's basically a crap shoot in the winter. West coast mostly excluded close to the Pacific. Population wise that's probably 50% of the country.

It's very much like religion. Push it on me and I'll go away from it because I know it's BS. An EV can't tow 9k lbs more than 100 miles if that. Only fits 5 people on a bench seat. They just don't offer me anything of value for the price. $100k on a CT and it barely gets me across the WI state line? 90 Miles to get to Lake Geneva, WI. And that's short. Usually going 250-450miles to get to the destination for "local" trips. Nashville is 500+.

My point is it's a daily commuter car and that's it. And if you forget to charge it after having a rough day for whatever reason you're screwed the next day. Life happens. You need a second car, so the costs just went up (likely a third car if you have a spouse). Car prices today you're looking at $150k probably at least.

Yeah, they aren't meant for cold weather. Which is why I think they're reaching market saturation for sales. They'll still sell, but not nearly at the pace they have been the past 3-5 years.

I've been a "hater" but still have never ruled out getting one. I just don't want a sedan or tiny SUV size. And it's a big hell no on trucks. Give me a full sized SUV with 400 miles range, 300 with towing and you have a customer potentially. Until then I'm out.

Vast majority of CA is liberal. They don't like Elon aligning with Trump. What they don't understand is Elon gives no shits. His money is already in the bank. He's collected on other businesses. If he has $100M in a fund he can live off that on 2% interest for his life. He has $250,000,000,000 in wealth.

He can live on interest of $2M/yr and still slowly draw it down. Likely long term gains, so taxed lower. The shareholders are the ones that will take a bit of a beating with Tesla. I've said it in other comments that market saturation is near. Some people don't want EV's and never will. Or they're problematic in your location like IL. Or your sales person that needs to drive 400 miles a day which isn't uncommon.

Ford’s F-150 Lightning Is falling behind Tesla’s Cybertruck in deepening EV crisis

(Bloomberg) — Just a year ago, Jesse Acosta fell in love with the smoothness and speed of his new Ford F-150 Lightning (F), an electric version of Ford’s best-selling truck. Now, he wants to get rid of it.

The Lightning’s stated range is 230 miles (370 kilometers), but reality never seems to reflect the conditions necessary to achieve that. As soon as he starts climbing through the mountains on the 130-mile trip from Fresno to his parents’ place in Capitola, the load on the battery depletes the range until it’s down to 40 miles of power. Though he’s never been stranded, the fear of running out of juice spoils every trip. “I’ve had it for a year and the one thing you can’t discount is just how nerve-racking it is,” Acosta, 41, said.

The EV market has turned as mainstream car buyers balk at high prices and spotty charging infrastructure. While the global slowdown hit every automaker, it’s left Ford Motor Co. especially vulnerable because the company has no new EV models coming for more than two years. The manufacturer abandoned plans to build 2 million electric vehicles by 2026, along with any near-term hope of earning a return on the tens of billions of dollars it’s poured into developing battery-powered models.

Rivals have begun rolling out their own electric models — including innovative, lower-cost options — and it will take years to execute on a strategy that could make Ford more competitive. President Donald Trump may make that task more difficult. He’s threatened to impose 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico, where Ford builds its Mustang Mach-E, and to strike a $7,500 consumer tax credit that helps dealers sell battery-powered cars.

“Ford has stalled,” said David Whiston, an analyst with Morningstar Inc., who rates Ford the equivalent of a buy. “For the next couple years, it’s probably going to be pretty ugly for them on the EV side.” As Ford’s EV losses reached a record last year, the stock fell almost 19%. The shares are flat so far this year as Trump’s tariff threats against Mexico and Canada have roiled auto stocks.

Ford is expected to give a forecast on its EV losses and overall business when it posts fourth-quarter results on Wednesday.

No one wants them where we live and work. Our network is 2k deep friends, family and clients. 2 people have them. Illinoian's and people regionally are gonna have fun with their Teslas Monday to Friday with highs below 10ºF and lows in the negatives and snow finally on the ground. Point is cold AF

Hell my ICE SUV is having trouble starting because of the cold. Older battery, but again a battery. I think you lived in CA and in TX now. Those climates are fine for EV's. 1,000's of new owners in Chicago without a heated place to park are going to learn the negatives about EV's real quick this week... again.

I'm not anti EV, I'm just waiting for a car I want to buy that's EV. None of them are even close to the specs I want. We're building the electric charging/outlet into our new house for EV, but will probably just use it for a space heater at first for the garage. And I'm not overpaying for a car that I can get ICE $20k cheaper. That's 2 nice vacations for a family of five. Or 5 years worth of gas easy and oil changes. I like freedom. Amazing deals right now for inventory Y's now that the new refreshed Juniper Y is being released this month.
