In this review, we examine challenges that have impeded development of effective mucosal respiratory vaccines, emphasizing that all of these viruses replicate extremely rapidly in the surface epithelium and are quickly transmitted to other hosts, within a narrow window of time before adaptive immune responses are fully marshaled. ...

Over the years, influenza vaccines have never been able to elicit durable protective immunity against seasonal influenza virus strains, even against non-drifted strains.

Maybe smoking is the answer. Seriously. Smokers were known to be significantly less likely to catch the virus Fauci created in Wuhan with our tax dollars:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32964233/

We reported an unexpectedly low prevalence of current smokers among COVID-19 patients hospitalized in nonintensive care wards.

My theory: tobacco smoke kills respiratory viruses.

Not saying there aren't long-term dangers to smoking. There certainly are.

But maybe one or two cigarettes at the beginning of a viral respiratory disease is actually quite effective in stopping it.

Indeed, and my tobacco continues to live to this day in the front yard.

LOL! He did grow some tobbacky!

Yes, which is why I put that "Authentic California Tobacco" as homage to Patrick's posts on his seedling progress.

Native american smoked peace pipe , many died from infections. RiP

May be people who smoke have smell and people maintain distance. Causation vs coorelation.

Nicotine is 30 times more receptive to the Ace receptor than the spike protein. Nicotine temporarily relieves symptoms of the bioweapon. The trick is how to get it out of the system when the nicotine wears off.

Thanks @EconPete

Where did you read this about nicotine and the ACE receptor?

There are differing studies, here's the devil's advocate study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7942220/#:~:text=Nicotine%20exposure%20induces%20rapid%20and,2%20replication%20and%20cytopathic%20effect.
Here's a balanced one which is probably closest to the truth. The answer is it depends:

https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/nicotine-replacement-therapy/

The idea behind the alleviation of covid symptoms is the competition for ACE2, essentially blocking replication.

Maybe a nicotine patch would help, in general. It's not just the lungs that express ACE2.

Maybe good old "chaw" would be better. Everyone get their pouch of Red Man, stuff a plug into the cheek and have a spit.

That'll go a long way to induce social distancing.

Seven years old but more and more we're finding that nicotine alone isn't harmful. In fact, people who have never smoked etc., don't get addicted to it if they use a low dose patch. A big part is the high dose that hits from smoking and the ritual.

From that page:

Nicotine has complex effects, often showing anti-inflammatory properties by activating specific receptors (α7nAChR) and pathways (cholinergic) that suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines, beneficial in conditions like arthritis or ulcerative colitis, but it can also promote oral inflammation (like gingivitis) and, within tobacco smoke, its negative effects, addiction, and other toxins far outweigh any potential benefit.

Researchers and doctors have shown it cures over 500 different diseases and reverses long-COVID symptoms.

How Nicotine Can Reduce Inflammation:
Activates Receptors: Nicotine binds to alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7nAChR) on immune cells, acting like a switch to calm inflammation.

Modulates Immune Cells: It can regulate lymphocytes, macrophages, and other immune cells, influencing cytokine (inflammatory messenger) release.

Engages the Vagus Nerve: It triggers the body’s natural anti-inflammatory reflex (the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway).
