Years ago, when commenting was still allowed on "news" sites, I used to always ask why journalists didn't provide a direct link to what they were reporting on so the public could verify it themselves, sincerely believing they were just unaware of the power of doing that.

This was back when journalists (sometimes) still did their jobs. What I later realized, is journalists themselves never sourced the material to verify it and when the 2016 election came around, I realized they were perfectly willing to outright lie. This is when commenting was done away with because it was supposedly either 1) "too expensive to moderate" or 2) "too toxic".

The very best thing about Trump becoming president is that he has entirely discredited the media propaganda machine. Utterly destroyed it.

BTW, if you've never used dissenter, it's actually quite a good site to use for commenting. No filters there that I've detected, no censorship that I've seen. Comments are mainly useful to see when a journalist has lied, misrepresented, or left out information. The site is still fairly new, but in some cases it's quite active and you can gain some insight.
