AOC shows her fucking stupidity again.

Communist Party of USA exists since 1919: https://www.cpusa.org/

Their website is basically AOC talking points.

You mean after months of wall to wall impeachment, Ukraine and Russian colluuuuussion nonsense 24/7 on the news - Trump is still within the statistical error in all of these polls?
107948   WookieMan   2020 Jan 23, 9:32am

Trump has Wisconsin. Outside of an actual crime or he somehow gets removed from office with this impeachment, I'd bet a decent amount of money on Trump winning Wisconsin by 3-5% of statewide popular vote.

My wife has the entire state of Wisconsin as a territory. We live in IL in a purplish area. So we see both worlds quite a bit. I'm up in Wisconsin maybe 10 times a year and she's up there 30-40 times a year. She works with governments, municipalities, construction contractors and engineers. Most of these people are degreed professionals.

Wisconsin is Trumpland. Marquette (Milwaukee) and UW Madison really are fucking blind about how the rest of the state lives. They behave like coastal elites and are completely disconnected with how some 42 year old dude in Monroe or Mauston makes a living.

Michigan I don't know well enough. I personally think he wins there too, but I wouldn't bet on it. Chicago has WAYYYYY too much influence on the east coast of Lake Michigan. That's where the limousine liberals go. Some do go to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, but places like Saugatuck, MI are hotbeds for the hard left Chicagoans. From a FIB that likes to camp and get out on lakes, snowboard, snowmobile, drink, etc. Wisconsin is where real men go and Michigan is where the weaker guys go that need contemporarily decorated cabins, scented oils, bug spray and tampons.

1)too early,
2)no negative ads run on any Dem candidate
3)POTUS is currently undergoing impeachment.

After 1)impeachment acquittal (with prejudice most likely)
2)a vigorous campaign by the President
3)several debates
4)plenty of exposure of the unsavory side of the Dem candidate
Trump wins in a landslide.
107950   Heraclitusstudent   2020 Jan 23, 11:16am

She's right. The democrats is a center party that would be on the right in Europe.
In fact the only reason they have a woke social agenda, is because they don't want a class based social agenda.

I really don't think that's the case any more.
107953   Heraclitusstudent   2020 Jan 23, 12:07pm

This is why the DNC tried to sabotage Bernie. They don't want any real socialism. The only thing they can stand for now are:
- divisive identity politics,
- presumed "war on women"
- now that the gays are seen as normal, they're down to trans.

Democrats cconomic policy is very similar to right wing corporatism. The only exception is maybe healthcare and taxation. But what they propose there is what every other liberal countries in the world have now. To call it socialism is a bit specious.

Bernie & AOC need their own party if she wants a left party.

I don’t see any reason why it should! People are employed, wages are rising, new beneficial trade deals have been signed, corporate taxes are low, housing stock is low as it is in every good economy, the market is way up, and continues to rise... I really don’t see any reason for a recession!

Ok here’s a possibility: a new deadly virus causes mass death and even wider panic, slowing China’s economy down and also exports and supply chains. That might hurt us a bit over time, especially if the virus comes to our shores.
Might just be another Ebola scare though. But yah a mass world health crisis could possibly do it.

Do you think people would really blame Trump for this if that happened and tanked the economy?

More importantly, do you think people will be willing to throw the keys to the Bonkers Donkey party who are all campaigning on open borders and accepting millions of refugees around the world?

Even if the bond prices fell, bondholders would still get free passage.

https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/crumbling-american-infrastructure-cliche-by-todd-g-buchholz-2020-01

Variations of this could be used to break through a lot of NIMBYism for all sorts of projects other than toll roads, too.

For example, developers NIMBY-hostile medium to higher density projects can issue these sorts of bonds to existing locals to finance the portion of the development needed to upgrade water, streets and traffic infrastructure improvements that would be necessary to do. Maybe even towards school/fire house/police mini-stations/parks construction if the new development is big enough (say a 500+ unit project). The developer gets to write off the interest for the bonds and the bondholders would get to earn the interes, like muni/state/federal bonds are.

And what would be the equivalent of a "lifetime free pass" as a "downside protection" in this case?
107974   Tenpoundbass   2020 Jan 24, 5:18pm

I want my taxes to pay for all of the fucking roads every goddamn one of them. And not a single penny go to anyone that works in the government that doesn't facilitate either the construction of those roads, or traffic that flows on them, in one way or another.

107976   FortwayeAsFuckJoeBiden   2020 Jan 24, 8:27pm

Funny how that works.

It was surreal how Biden got his son a kickback, but investigating kickback is a crime.

It was not a mere kickback, it was outright bribe and influence peddling with Hunter as the conduit to the Vice President, who was specifically put in charge of Ukrainian matters.

President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

The president’s statement as described by Mr. Bolton could undercut a key element of his impeachment defense: that the holdup in aid was separate from Mr. Trump’s requests that Ukraine announce investigations into his perceived enemies, including former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son Hunter Biden, who had worked for a Ukrainian energy firm while his father was in office.

I wish that at least a few right wingers on this forum could admit that this is probably true, and that they understand that the impeachment fight is more about helping Trump get acquitted even though he is guilty of this. Instead they lie to themselves and others in a way that only reflects poorly on their character and or reasoning ability.
107981   SunnyvaleCA   2020 Jan 26, 9:47pm

This sounds like Trump asked an advisor about the consequences of doing something, his advisor stated the likely consequences, and then Trump decided not to do it. That's the entire point of confidential advisors to the president.

Schiff will question Bolton under oath. Bolton will say Trump asked about various different things (blowing up Iran, exploding nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes, calling out the army to shoot anyone jumping the border, etc). That and only that will play on endless loops on the fake-news media. Then, under cross, Bolton will say that when told the consequences that Trump said: "OK, nevermind, we definitely won't do that." That part will be scrubbed from the news. That's pretty much how everything played out in the kabuki theatre House investigation. Things will be somewhat different in the senate, but the fake-news media will have to actively suppress the cross examinations.

Various Democrats are touting that 50% (or whatever %) want witnesses in the trial. They don't realize that most of the people wanting witnesses are actually Trump supporters. Let's call some witnesses to the stand: Schiff, Nadler, Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, The Leaker, etc.

If Trump broke a law, don't you think the House Democrats would have slapped that onto the impeachment charges? The Dems shopped a whole bunch of possible articles of impeachment. None of the ones that could be backed by legal statue made the Democrat's extremely low bar.

That said, presidents often push the legal boundaries. Trump has, so far, been very successful with the supreme court siding with him in the main. And it's not just that the court is slightly skewed conservative; several of his victories have been unanimous.
