I think the thing that is overlooked in this whole discussion is how badly China screwed the whole world over. They lied about the death rates, human to human transmission, origin of the virus. Even allowing US researchers in to study was cut off. And then as an extra fuck you, they bought up the worlds supply of ppe.

So then this thing comes roaring out of Asia, hits Italy and the world has a shit their pants moment. Understandably, a lot of countries took very aggressive measures because we had 0 info we could rely on from China.

Now that we’ve dealt with it longer, we see there are better alternatives to dealing with this situation because this lockdown cannot continue past April.

We know that with testing, reasonable social distancing measures, ppe for medical personal, isolation of vulnerable population, and maybe a few Trump Pills, this virus can be controlled. It’s not even a debate, many countries have done it at this point.

Unfortunately, once Trump makes this call, all we’re going to see from that day until November is a running tally of every person that has died of corona laid at Trumps feet. It’s dumb and partisan and unfortunately, the reality of the Shit Sandwich we need to eat right now is to nuanced to explain to scared soccer moms.

Social distancing is not designed to save lives. It is designed so that hospitals do not get overrun. This is a global pandemic. Absent a vaccine, which is unlikely to ever be developed, this virus will continue until most people have had it and either lived or died. So the only question we should be asking ourselves about policy decisions we are considering is if hospitals will be overwhelmed if we don’t limit some activity. Outside of canceling concerts, theme parks, and cruises, I don’t see why we can’t all go back to work after taking some reasonable precautions like wearing a mask.

You make all previous comments basically null in my mind by posting this. You've attempted, with little to no success, to show that this virus is some awful thing. It's not and won't be besides the economic hit we're going to take.

Instead we shut everyone down that can handle the flu, even if it's an extreme version for people that are actually symptomatic. There's no disputing this. 70-80% of the entire population is more likely to die from dozens of other things versus Covid at an exponential level.

Again, not one logical argument has been brought forward as to why we just don't shut down the old and weak and stop visiting them instead of what's going on now.

It's so fucked up. There are actually many people who'd like to see their doctor or do a procedure or test unrelated to CV-19, they pay their insurance dues every paycheck and are being told to wait at many major providers, I mean WTF. You should have the right to stop paying for services that are taken away from you temporarily. The whole world stands still because of of an illness that has so far caused 1/4 deaths that the 2017/2018 flu did.

Yeah, in the original link provided, the embedded video shows Trump talking about COVID-19 but then there are text quotations that mention antibiotic resistance. Using the text quotations, I searched and found a different Trump video (linked in my initial response) that talks about resistance but doesn't have any mention of COVID-19 or any other context that would seem to point towards COVID-19. In fact, that 2nd video is clipped very tightly and I'm wondering if they are specifically clipping OFF the part where he mentions bacteria resistance to antibiotics.

I think the original article TDS writer figured they would put quotations about antibiotic resistance in the text of the article but then link to a Trump video that mentions COVID-19 and hope the reader would put the two together. The video mentions COVID-19 but is long and boring enough that few will watch the 2.5 minutes and say to themselves.... Trump never spoke the words that he is quoted as saying.

100% correct. I just don't know that you're going to change some minds here. Whether it was bacteria or this virus, people would have made up fake stories. I don't really know that there's a way to change this even if you/we call it out. At some point I'm resigned to the fate that it's on purpose, or our society all has slight retardation. I'm fearful it's the latter option.
