Its failure will close down the system altogether.

We'll see. So far that has not happened. The federal website has glitches, which they are working on fixing. But the California website works great. I just signed up last night. Easiest insurance application I ever filled out. No medical questions whatsoever. Doesn't seem like a system that's "closing down".

thomaswong.1986 says

Your forcing people to pay more which they cant do.

Bullshit. The rate I was quoted was about one TENTH the amount I was paying 4 years ago when I had to go on COBRA. I will be paying MUCH MUCH MUCH less. This right-wing meme that rates are going to skyrocket is just complete CRAP. We're getting MORE insurance for LESS money. That's why you Rushbots can't point to ANY statistics showing rates skyrocketing. All you can do it post stupid pictures with one-liners on them.

thomaswong.1986 says

Obamacare will eventually be repealed because it will become that much more unpopular. The GOP will just stand there saying..."I told you so".

You're dreaming. The republican party is soon to be extinct like the dinosaurs.

Of course it should be abolished, it was created FRAUDUENTLY. You know, by fraud. In case you didn't know fraud is a CRIME. Are you people idiots???

If I google "ACA minimum standards of coverage", I get 1,170,000 results.

Are you saying that, even though it has been ALL OVER THE NEWS FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS that ACA sets minimum standards of coverage, and that insurance policies which don't cover the minimum essentials will not be allowed, that you were unaware of this provision? I've been aware of it since ACA passed. I don't see how you couldn't be unless you live under a rock. Why do you want to keep your old lousy insurance policy that doesn't cover anything?

Now who's an idiot?

its not the website thats the problem.. that will be fixed...

but regarding the website.. its more like the whole database is "broken".. its the systems behind the website which has gone on the fritz...

What will kill it will be Obama lied and covered it up forcing people to pay more for coverage and who know how the service will be. that is what will kill it.

thomaswong.1986 says

forcing people to pay more for coverage and who know how the service will be.

Again, you have provided ZERO evidence that healthcare is going to cost more. If you keep saying it over and over do you think that will magically make it true?

The service will be the same. This is not nationalized healthcare; it is simply an insurance system. The doctors and hospitals are still going to be exactly the same ones we've always had. Please try to educate yourself.

YOU made the claim. It is contingent on YOU to prove it. By my one example, I have shown that it is not universally true that people will pay more. Now, if you think it is true in some other way (average or median?) then YOU need to demonstrate why you think so. Otherwise, you are just talking out of your ass.

BUT we know better.

I have been looking for a related thread to tell a small story.

I just spoke with a former coworker and friend where we keep in contact, but not necessarily visit on a regular basis. The time we do spend together we enjoy talking about current affairs and Real Estate.

He did not know what 'QE' was. I said 'You're kidding me?' He said, no, he had no idea about the 85b a month thing.

Please refrain from statements like 'Well, gee then, He is just a retard!'

No, he happens be an accomplished Web designer and marketer. He has a wife, a house, and now an apartment for job reasons.

I explained it to him.

You are absolutely correct. When we hear about the housing recovery you don't hear about QE
The closest you get is that interest rates are low but they don't say how or why they are low. People think it just happens to be a happy circumstance to take advantage of rather than a fed creation.
If you understand the fed you know why we are having massive stock market appreciation even though the economy is poor. Ditto for home price appreciation

39377   smaulgld   2013 Nov 7, 7:52pm

dodgerfanjohn says

Most people don't know what quantitative easing is. I'd be surprised if more than half of people with a 4 year degree from a US college knew what QE is.

But they know what a government shutdown is so that is what they will blame for the end of the housing recovery even though there never really was one other than what $trillions of dollars in QE tried to create

Your theory is simply nonsensical. Many powers are non-monetizable. In your own family, unless your wife is a hooker, how do you monetize her "honey-do" power over you?

Sure, some powers are non-monetizable. So what? My wife can get me to fix the toilet. How exactly does that contradict the well established relationship between wealth disparity and economic health?

Reality says

A few millions here a few millions there are peanuts compared to his droning power.

Again--so what? POTUS is very powerful. Probably moreso than his wealth indicates.

Reality says

It's useless because noise far outweigh signal

No--actually it doesn't. The data is pretty clear and unambiguous. The signal far outweighs the noise.

Reality says

Furthermore, your observation that "too high" in our society leading to busts is essentially agreeing to my point that busts are corrective mechanisms in our relatively capitalistic free market economy, and busts are leveling! So why do your ilk want the government to intervene and stop busts?

You're kidding, right?

I'll bet when he has a fight with one, or goes through a tough patch, he just goes and buys another one.

That's messed up. Hasn't he learned more after all these dolls about relationships? You'd think he would have learned that you have to work at it sometimes. Does he ever think about how it makes the previous ones feel, when he gets a new one ? He did get them the hello kitty doll to keep them company which was nice, but wtf? Now he's pimping out his exs, or the ones that were just one nighters to total strangers ? That guy has some issues.

The only thing he did is make Romneycare go nationwide. ... That he is lying hypocrite is not in question. But the opposition is a bunch of loons who try and shut down the govt and make us default on our debt-something we will never be able to recover from. Sigh-is it too much to ask for a politician who cares a little bit about the country?

Well said. In the long run, Obama isn't going to be remembered as the first black president, but rather as a terrible president. Unfortunately, we're stuck with hoping for an alternative in the Democratic Party, because the Republican Party isn't going to produce a nominee that isn't god-awful.

It is truly appaling that so many people had such horrendous insurance that they don't even meet the minimum obamacare requirements and in my opinion the bronze plan is not really all that great. I am very thankful for my employer provided coverage. How could americans have tolerated such substandard insurance for so long and have done nothing about it?

Ha ha - exactly. Looking at the bronze plans, I would consider that pretty "bare bones" insurance. It's hard to imagine how horrible those plans were if they didn't even meet THAT standard. I am perplexed as to why so many people act like they wanted to keep those awful plans.

39392   John Bailo   2013 Nov 8, 4:37am

Housing needs to stop being a super-special-once-in-a-lifetime thing and transform into a quick purchase like a car where you can upgrade, get a 2,3,4 loan and pay it off, sell it, get a new one.

39393   humanity   2013 Nov 8, 4:48am

Source ? Sounds highly unlikely. A huge number of Americans have health care through their employers.

If those numbers above are true, it's because of some minute tweak that many companies had to make to their large group plans. The employees keep their plan, but the plan changes is some minuscule way, and the propaganda pedlers know there are suckers out there that eat this kind of dishonesty up.

39394   dublin hillz   2013 Nov 8, 7:44am

Interesting discussion going on here about different forms of power. Yes, on an absolute level, a fascist or communist dictator has a tremendous level of power over their subjects via ability to make life or death decisions over them; this sort of power will never be experienced by a corporate shark or even a CEO like bill gates for the power of the latter pales in comparison. However if we are talking on an intra-country basis like within united states, I would argue that here, power ultimately comes down to money, especially old money which is the closest thing that united states has to aristocracy. A chick with good looks will find her power relatively short lived in scope and comparison due to eventual biological destiny!
