In 2016, the Obamas released their final White House Christmas card. It did not once mention the word “Christmas.” The card read “Happy Holidays” with a message about the new year. There is an accompanying photo of Obama and his family. The card was also signed by the Obama dogs Bo and Sunny.

On the other hand, the Trump’s Christmas card begins by saying “Merry Christmas,” along with a “Happy New Year.”

If you want to make the Democratic Party great again, a good start would be to consider that most people like Christmas very much, and don't like being jumped on for expressing good wishes. Why let Trump take all the credit for being on the side of ordinary people? Start saying Merry Christmas, and if someone doesn't like it, wish them happiness anyways, because they are the one being unreasonably dour and judgmental, and could use a little cheering up.

The problem is the leftoid knee jerk reaction when somebody says Merry Christmas and refers to santa as he and paints him white.

But you're OK with rightoid idiots saying that boycott Starbucks because they used plain red cups? Or boycotting a mall because they didn't have elves?

If they choose not to frequent Starbucks or the mall sure, that's their right, similarly the leftoids have the right to boycott orgs they don't like. What nobody has a right to is to force the other person to change their words, and there unfortunately the leftoids are front-runners. I think that's all this thread is about.

That's not how I read it. Patrick clearly wanted Obama to use the term Merry Christmas. Seems like Patrick is playing identity politics.

Liberals are always the consummate Grinch stewing over consumerism.

Here's a Libtard Article where the Author reckons the Grinch was right, and that the Hoos in Hooville all had it coming to them. The Grinch was their fault because Consumerism, and Capitolism!

http://www.literaryramblings.com/1000-books-in-10-years-vol-405-how-the-grinch-stole-christmas-by-dr-seuss
It had nothing to do with Consumerism, it had to do with a Tyrant deciding for everyone else they can't have Christmas in any capacity because it offended him.
It was about troublemakers never win, unless Liberals are in charge.

I read it as if the Dems want to win again they would be well advised to use the word of a very popular Christian holiday of a Christian nation instead if shying away from it.

A reaction to identity politics.

Nope--saying Happy Holidays is the opposite of identity politics. It's treating everyone equally, no matter their religion.

Forcing one to say Merry Christmas IS identity politics.

You got that backwards. Everybody was saying whatever they wanted before the left started making a big fuss about it w/ their identity politics.

You mean people realized that that not everyone is Christian and decided to be polite by wishing Happy Holidays?

Please explain how being inclusive and not honoring only one religion is identity politics. I'm all ears.

Forcing people to change their speech is identity politics and oppressive. Inclusion has nothing to do with preemptive obedience in fear of hurting muh feelings.
24   anonymous   2017 Dec 3, 1:37pm

Christmas has been dying for decades, which is why you start seeing Christmas imagery before Halloween.

Isn't that what Patrick and your tribe are doing? Trying to force Obama to say Merry Christmas rather than Happy Holidays?

Besides the fact that your statement is not correct. Businesses force people to change their speech all the time.

How many people really believe that Jesus was born in December? :-/
28   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 3, 5:25pm

As a secular Jewish guy from New York, I loved Abraham & Strauss, Macy's, etc. with all their Christmas Decorations.

The other night I dreamed I was a child, waiting in Grandpa's old Oldsmobile outside a restaurant called "Key Largo" in Long Island, for him to place his OTB bets.

Remember him reading the Daily Racing Form and smoking his pipe, mixed with the smell of the gas stove and Grandma's cooking, and the old Christmas Tree with those big old fashioned bulbs that if one went, the whole string went.

He used to call hamburgers "Meatburgers" in his old fashioned Brooklyn accent.

They even had those original oil burners that took up a whole room, and you had to crawl under to smack around if something went wrong, a la "Christmas Story".

Merry Christmas, America.

Like I said, much of Global Warming - certainly the useless crap like the yellow paper separation for recycling - is some kind of sin and atonement thing for consumption.

No way. Christmas is alive and very well, ironically driven largely by secular business desire to get people to buy gifts.

I do agree that it's unseemly to start promoting Christmas before Thanksgiving, and I try to boycott any business that does that.
32   steverbeaver   2017 Dec 4, 6:35am

Yeah it's a nice change. BTW his campaign also sent out cards last Christmas... I got one. I thought that was nice as well.

That's a lot better than Obama's Christmas promise of giving all of us a $2,500 savings on our health insurance because of Obamacare.

Anyone get their $2,500 check from Obama yet?

Me neither.

Apparently it was a short lived victory in the war on Christmas.
38   anonymous   2017 Dec 7, 7:04am

I'm an atheist who is half Jewish (by family tree, not practice). I say 'merry Christmas' when out and about, and have never had anybody attack me or give me any evil look. I'll also say happy holidays on occasion. However, once this stupid culture war heats up every year, I start getting pissed off when I hear 'merry Christmas.' Instead of happy feelings, it conjures images of Bill O'Reilly's smug ass douche bag face and the holier than thou assholes who take up his drum beat.

Yea but was his mother really inseminated by a sky God, prior to loosing her virginity? Or was she just another cumslut with no account as to which random lay resulted in pregnancy, so she baked up a bullshit story about God impregnated her while leaving her innocence in tact
42   anonymous   2017 Dec 9, 6:00pm

I'm an atheist, also part Jewish, part Catholic, who gets the smell of cinnamon candles, the smell of frost (it has a smell), and other wonderful sensations when I hear "Merry Christmas."

Everybody, have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.
44   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 9, 6:04pm

That was me by the way, forgot to log in.

"I don't see what the big deal is what you call it. So what if people say happy holidays. The War on Christmas is a bunch of BS."
5 minutes later, at the checkout:
"Have a Merry Christmas, Mr. Soyboy."
"WHAT?! It's CURRENT YEAR!!! Happy Holidays is an all inclusive term that everybody should be REQUIRED to use. Only rednecks say Merry Christmas any more. What are you, some kind of DUMB FOX VIEWER who thinks there's a War on Xmas on? Stupid Trump Voter! Let me speak to the Manager."
"Tim, c'mon, honey, let's go and pick up my son from his father's house. "
"No Tina, this is IMPORTANT. "
"Oh dear, you promised to take my son to the Kwanzaa Celebration. His father will be there. And can you lend him $100."
"Ugh, Fine." Shakes fist at cashier
45   HappyGilmore   2017 Dec 9, 6:25pm

"I hate these god damn SJWs trying to tell me what I have to say or how I have to say it"
5 minutes later at the checkout
"Happy Holidays Mr. I'm not a racist, I'm just anti-PC"
"WHAT?? What the hell is WRONG with you??!!?? I'm so tired of you SJW's playing identity politics. Say Merry Christmas for God's sake Take your Happy Holidays BS to San Francisco--I'm sure the homos down there would appreciate it. If Trump says Merry Christmas than so the fuck can you!!"
"C'mon honey--the demolition derby is starting soon. We need to go"
"No Mary, this is IMPORTANT"
"Oh dear, the payday loan store is closing soon. We need to go"
"Dammit. I'll be back. And I'm packing"
46   Patrick   2017 Dec 13, 6:48pm

Lol, today I got a Christmas card that said:

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Why just sit on the fence when you can impale yourself on the fencepost?

The root of my objection to the insipid "Happy Holidays" non-greeting is the clear demand that America change beyond recognition to accommodate new minorities, rather than demanding that immigrants change to accommodate America. Our ideal used to be the "melting pot", of which I am a proud Irish-Jewish-Polish American product. "Happy Holidays" deracinates our whole country, makes us nothing but a generic and depressing strip mall for the world, with no history and no specific identity. We are nowhere and no one and nothing every time someone says "Happy Holidays". Just dollars and an increasingly porous and irrelevant border to be exploited and manipulated by elite globalists and anyone who gets here tomorrow, legally or not.

So in your opinion, the US as a melting pot with one of its core principles being freedom of religion, should force people to celebrate a Christian holiday?
48   Patrick   2017 Dec 13, 7:51pm

No, where did I say anyone should be forced to celebrate a Christian holiday?

What I'm saying is that the majority should not be subject to the tyranny of the minority.

Just like in politics, the majority wins, and the majority of the country is Christian. (unless you're a SJW).

I thought you were pro Trump/GOP? 30% of the population has the rest hostage right now Patrick.

You are for removal of gerrymandering and tough campaign finance reform then?

Are you for vote day as a national holiday, ex-felons being restored voting rights quickly, and automatic voter registration as well?

Care to re-state that more carefully? ;)

The representative democracy in America is not set by simple majority votes.
