Yes and republicans back then were afraid of cutting taxes, because they were conservative then.

THe laffer curve only suggests revenues are increased when taxes are lowered from being too high.
And Johnson, like Reagan, cut taxes at a time when they were much higher, and could actually generate lower unemployment rates. Bush II cut taxes when already quite low, which didn't accomplish jack shit.
IT accomplished blowing the deficit up and essentially redirecting the SS surplus in to the pockets of the rich.
That's good news to the evil assholes who want to undue our safety nets (entitlements) and take us back to the gilded age.
To them the social advances that occurred under FDR and LBJ were the worst things that ever happened to the U.S. SO starving the beast by undertaxing the rich and the corporations is seen as a way to take us back to those wonderful times when children worked and when there was no middle class.

Oh thomas, lying again. You never used VMS on a 360. I worked my way through school as a 360 and 3033 operator. There is no such operating system as VMS from IBM. There was VM-CP which would host CMS as a lightweight interactive front end sometimes called VM/CMS. . We used to also run MVS under VM. VM never ran on the 360, only the 370 series which included the 3033.
The 360 box ran OS360/MFV when I got there (it was upgraded from DOS/360 earlier) and then upgraded again to CP/CMS also called CP67/CMS.
I loved the CMS front end. It was clean, simple, and elegant. Why the hell IBM didn't just port it to the pc instead of fucking around with bill gates will always be a mystery. There was actually a PC knockoff of CMS called Oasis on Z80 and Theos on x86 that sold for many years as a multi user system and worked very well. I've played with it. Probably still around today. IBM always ran multiple virtual copies of CMS under CP or VM instead of making a single multi user version and actually worked with less machine load that way. Because CP wasn't considered a strategic operating system like OS360 (batch processing like OS360 had much stronger support at IBM than time sharing like CP) CP and CMS were released as unsupported source code and are actually public domain. IBM was open source before anyone else even thought about it. Mainframe versions of AIX and Linux run under zVM even today.
