This is pretty amazing considering the GOP lost the last election and the one before it because they lack any appeal to immigrants. You would think they had learned a lesson. Apparently not.

46331   HEY YOU   2014 May 19, 4:37am

The Rep/Con/ Teas don't need an immigration bill. Bush & the Rep/Con Congress secured the border with Mexico, just ask any of the border states. They deported all illegals. Prosecuted all Rep/Con businesses that used illegals with massive fines & long prison sentences.
What's all the talk about a problem that's already solved? roflmao

Cost of labor doesn't affect production, it only impacts profits of the owners of the enterprise. Overall wealth produced isn't affected.

Wow.

Let me spell it out for you: higher labor costs are entirely passed on to consumers, resulting in fewer goods sold, and fewer people employed. This has been repeated too many times here at Patrick.net to be a surprise to anyone: All costs (labor, materials, taxes, not dumping mercury in the aquifer, and not murdering kittens) are passed on to the consumer - no hit to profit is ever taken.

Plus, I'm not paying more just to cover the cost of paying employees, who are just union members anyway. People should work for pleasure, and to build character - I would hate to think they are motivated in any way by mammon.

Are you one? If so, you have self-loathing issues and should seek help.

If not, you're a racist.

Which is it?

I believe in the "be in this world but not of it" philosophy which if adopted by most people would be a conduit to a post racial society. But this is not the world that we live in now. "Self loathing" in the context of "white privilege" is a rather useless emotion as is "guilt" itself which is based on superego's unconscious need for parental authority and not much else.

There are tens of millions of illegal workers in the USA.

Estimate is under 12 million. Nice try.

Since the last amnesty did not accomplish anything, or had negative results, it's absurd to repeat it.

Not true -- it resulted in higher GDP and higher wages for educated people.

What people forget is that any current immigration reform proposal includes provisions that would encourage more highly educated/high-earning immigrants to be brought here, which will increase GDP and make us all better off:

The Obama administration has deported far more than the Bush administration on a yearly basis.

I asked it before and I wil ask it again. What prevents the repubs from "competing" for those voters? How can the whole election strategy be so static as to rely perpetually on white male vote which is aging with every passing day?

Because they have INTEGRITY! Ha!

No, the real issue is that it's hard to stitch together a coalition of racists AND ethnic minorities, all while pretending to be laissez-faire.

See, they believe in free-markets, but it must benefit white people. If it benefits the brown, you're not doing it right.

46337   Tenpoundbass   2014 May 19, 6:28am

My Prediction if Numbnuts Bush runs, he'll win on the payback campaign.

I think voters will get a refreshing kick, out of hearing a Bush blame Obama for everything, for the next two Presidential terms.

46338   FortWayne   2014 May 19, 6:33am

Every 4 years we get a lot of media time spent trying for stupid vote. I expect nothing different in 2016 either.

If anyone thinks our candidates and presidential parties will act like grown ups, fat chance I tell you! It's only gonna get worse before it gets better.

Whereas Democrats are still trying to hold together a coalition of immigrants and blue collar union workers fighting for the same work?

If Republicans had half a brain, they could capture quite a bit of the blue collar union vote over immigration "reform".

46346   curious2   2014 May 19, 8:45am

bgamall4 says

fake polio vaccines....

That isn't even true. There was a fake campaign to immunize against Hepatitis B, which requires three shots; the first shot was given, then the campaign was abandoned. Sloppy and sensational reporting in the commercial press, and Muslim clerical manipulation, and anti-vaxers then turned it into an attack on (of all things) polio vaccine, which requires only one dose and is usually oral. The original campaign had nothing to do with polio vaccine except in the imaginations of people who wanted to stop polio vaccinations, and those people are the reason why polio has not been eradicated. This is one of the biggest problems that conspiracy theorists cause: in their zeal to exaggerate what happened into a more elaborate hoax, they distract from genuine problems. There should never have been a fake vaccination program; the recipients should have been offered the full three doses of the vaccine that they were promised.

What pray tell was Bush supposed to do with such a "specific" report before
9/11?

I can think of plenty of effective things not on your short, cherry picked list. First though, we should start by recalling what Bush DID do when presented with the report. He summarily brushed off the presenter, saying, "Your ass is covered" and on to the next thing. THAT WAS ALL.

Name 2 things Bush could have done that would have prevented 9/11 that wouldn't have sent the hacks on the political left and the ACLU to the courts pulling their hair out.

Jihadis have been trying to hit us ever since their first attack on the WTC in 1993. But we are to believe that Bush in his first few months in office could do what Clinton couldn't do in 8 years? That's some fair logic!

This whole business is a total hack argument, made by unthinking hacks on the left who are also 9/11 Troofers or are too dumb to think their thoughts out.

Cop:"Yeah, naw, I was just playin' go ahead on!"

HE doesn't have the intellectual horsepower/bandwidth to comprehend.

Either that, or his "I hate Obama" emotions that rule all of his thinking about everything, prevent him from having the critical thinking skills relative to such issues as many 10 - 12 year olds I've known.

Or one other third possibility: he really is the halfway intelligent programmer and musician he portrays himself to be, but gets paid by some right wing outfit to mess up blogs and forums with Foxbot bullshit. Pretty dirty though, if that's the case.

Or I guess it could also be years of drug and alcohol abuse, left him relatively dysfunctional with respect to separating emotion from logic.

That's because everyone knows, apparently, it's not even supposed to make sense.

That is unless you're a right wing nut.

Hey it does show that those republican congressman are doing something !! And if it's about giving Obama shit, then that's fine with a lot of republicans.

ANd It would seem, that anyone that was going to leave the fold because they aren't stupid enough, or aren't hateful enough, or aren't gullible enough, would have left long ago (like the author of contolio's linked piece above).

So there's no real downside to this, for them, I guess. The brainwashing has worked. Fairly well, considering. And there is that bottom line taxes thing. Who wouldn't rationalize selling out their country if it meant personally having a slightly higher net worth, at least in the near term, and maybe a few more nice things before they die ?

I love your addition of 'some reports have shown...' on your blog. Er, you mean another poster on Patnet pointed out how wrong your blatherings were (which a simple check of the freely available FACTS would have told you), and even then you still can't bring yourself to actually correct your article. Paint me unsurprised, though your avalanche of insults against Curious for simply explaining the facts to you was utterly predictable. A basic grasp of the facts and the use of a coherent argument have never been your strong points.

I think there's also a legitimate conservative fear of this place turning into a life-on-the-dole system.

We've got 317M people here now and not that many meaningful, wealth-creating, jobs, with easily 100M people more coming by 2050.

Conservatives don't want to be on the hook for hundreds of millions of peoples' welfare, and they think liberal policies allow helpless people to procreate and just overwhelm everyone else.

There's a certain element of truth to this. Hell, ObamaCare's subsidies are being paid for by the extra 3.8% Medicare tax on investment incomes. That was a hot poker up the ass for them.

You really think Bush "lied" about WMD's? For what? To steal oil?

Bush, oil wealth. Cheney oil wealth, Rice chevron board, Dan Evans (commerce secretary) oil wealth. In a word yes stealing oil, or at least removing it from Saddam's control was a big factor in the Iraq war. Plus don't forget garnering reelection votes for knocking the crap out of an Arab country. Doesn't matter which one since the average American voter doesn't have a clue which is which. But the one with the second largest oil reserves in the world was not a coincidental choice. If you truly think Rove wasn't all over the reelection potential of winning a war in the middle east I have some really prime land in florida I can sell you. Slightly wet land.

North Korea had worse human rights violations than Iraq and has nuclear weapons and is working on missiles that can reach the us, but no oil. Did we attack?

Pakistan is the second largest sponsor of terrorism after saudi arabia, had direct links to 9/11, hid bin ladin for 12 years, illegally sold nuclear technology to iran, china, north korea, south africa, and who know who else. But no oil, did we attack?

Shall I continue?
