Illegal immigrants are a net drag on the economy to the tune of over $100 BILLION a year. They're a net drag, just like public employees are on the economy.

Yes, becasue legal and illegal immigrants both pay in to social security and medicare, but not always. In both cases, it they are working for cash, landscaping or being a nanny, for example, then not. Obvious legal immigrants are better.

It also is a fun fact that nobody denies, that most illegal immigrants are people that simply stay when their visa runs out.

No, it's not as simple as that. If you listen you will already know that Dems are for border security, but simply don't think that more wall is a good investment. Even as is, Trump's $5B ask would just build some more wall but not a complete wall, and it's going to be a long battle to get land rights to build continuous wall.

In that case why don't the Dems just counter with funds to build a complete wall? I'm sure Trump would accept that.
If it takes a long time to get land rights to build a continuous wall, we need to get the process started right away. Isn't it?

Most of that will probably be wasted on bureaucracy and overpaid government workers. Besides, we may have a hundred times more to lose than Hungary. The wall is still worth it if you want to stop illegals.

THe wall argument is based on lies. Border security has been on the increase, for many years before Trump, and illegal immigration (all illegal immigration from Mexico for that matter) has been on the decrease.

Everyone who cares to know the truth, knows this. THey know that we have effective fencing, an effective wall where it matters already.

They also know that most illegal immigration is from people that just stay here when their visa expires.

THe wall is symbolic. Using technology with the existing "wall" would be far better, and is what ultimately is going to work. I, e, satellites, cameras, border patrol helicopters and guards on the ground.

In a functional multiparty democracy, all this would be an opportunity for compromise.

Single-payer healthcare and Universal Basic Income and other safety nets become rapidly unsustainable when unfettered immigration opens the doors to ~5B people who didn't build the society but want the freebies.

So build legislation that creates the safety nets and closes the open doors and binds the two together as a requirement. Entitlement programs with built-in caps on population influx. Both sides get something they want and, most importantly, the outcome makes sense economically.
