Since so many people won't be buying any more toilet paper for years, I'm sure that the factories will catch up.

Basically, the Charles Schwab corporation was letting people trade on margin in their IRA accounts, right down to charging margin interest. The IRS isn't going to bust them for it. I was due a large amount of $$ if they did bust them. I am looking for a law firm to sue the IRS for the $$ due me. I am looking for help from anyone who knows a law firm that could help me. --- thanks

Today I “sheltered” in my car and drove up hwy1 to San Francisco.
There was plenty of parking near the Golden Gate and it was nice for taking pictures.
Chinatown was deserted, North Beach had a few people here and there, some pizza places were open, bubble tea and a taco place, so no problem finding food.
Union Square was deserted and eerie, just a nut yelling and a couple of homeless.
I think in a week people will start going out, in a couple of weeks people will wonder why this was imposed on them, and by the third week they will be pissed off at the whole thing and our nanny state.
It’s absurd that the government may give us $1000, but they have Trump over a barrel, if he vetoed it he would be called mean and insensitive to the poor.
A black female I know in S. Florida is pissed at a 9pm curfew in Palm Beach and blamed “whites trying to tell us what to do!”
I laughed “I’m white and I don’t give a fuck what you do.”

Its actually the yellow man. Once this passes, I hope someone in US administration will have the guts to resoundingly condemn the Chinese for eating wild animals and putting an end to this barbaric medieval practice. At a very least a UN resolution condemning and banning eating of wild animals. The Chinese have truly outdone themselves this time and yes they should be ashamed.

I think Trump is painfully aware that the garbage Media, Democrats and Never-Trumpers are itching to make this into a Katrina and sink his presidency as they did with GWBush. We have already seen it by the usual suspects at Patnet.

You all do not get it. This is way way bigger than Katrina. It is a paradigm shift.

It's a virus.... a fucking virus. Stop watching Hollywood movies on this and look at the data. Jesus... I'm starting to think the virus is humans themselves....

I think that in a few weeks you'll look back at what people wrote above ^^^ and wonder why you didn't see this whole thing coming. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this is going to show just how fragile many members of society have become. We're supposed to "shelter in place" for 3 weeks. I think that by early April there will be an extension for a few more weeks. Meanwhile, unprepared people will suddenly realize just how truly unprepared they really are.

I just hope the water, electricity, and internet stay on. Then, it's just a matter of some morbidly obese people finally slimming down to merely obese. And maybe some feeble 80-year-olds finally making way for the younger generations.

Eh. Cancel the elections. Trump gets a do-over 4 years anyway due to the repeated frauds of the deep state.

I'm glad I have plenty of food and a lot of camping gear. (and water, yada yada yada)

Wtf is wrong with all of you? There’s literally no actual shortage of food. All the major retailers and grocers are hiring people on the spot in order to be able to stock shelves.

This isn’t the moment all the preppers have been waiting for. For the rest of us, it’s an inconvenience, nothing more.

My go-to farm-stand/market/greenhouse was actually quieter this Sunday. Plenty of everything except for my favorite wheat bread and vine-ripened tomatoes, so I pulled the M134 out of my coat and put 502 rounds into the ceiling and told management everyone was gonna die if their little fascist lock down didn't find a way to disgorge the goods.

Again, you exude the crude. I mean, seriously, you eat wheat bread?

The vast majority of morbidly-obese don't stock up on 500 bags of potato chips. They don't plan far in advance. In fact, not planning in advance is part of their overall problems in many cases and what, for example, leads them to rush out and binge on convience junk food.

If stores do close down — which is why people are buying carbohydrates and protein that store well — then they won't be eating. If they also ran with the crowd and stockpiled rice and beans, then they'll automatically be eating healthier foods. I also don't know anyone who is morbidly obese that cooks for themselves, and without the convenience aspect, they'll be eating much less.

Except there’s no actual shortage of supply. None whatsoever. Maybe an item here or there, but no one is missing meals. This is why Costco and every major provider of groceries is hiring left and right. They need enough employees to transport product and stock shelves and check people out.

The loonies buying out stuff and hoarding are only making life difficult for seniors and poor people who may not have the ability to drive around to several different stores. But realistically, no ones missing meals.

If I’m not being clear enough, people that are panic buying and hoarding in this moment are doing so without factual basis and without logical thought process. Your assertion that you hope the power and water stays on falls into this category. You have no Factual basis for even asking such questions. It’s purely emotional response on your part. You have absolutely zero basis for suggesting stores will close and by extension that people will starve.

Problem is that you do not understand exponential growth of pandemic. Here is a quiz- A single lily is the pond spawn a new lily every day and each spawned lily also gets to spawn a new lily everyday. It takes the 100 days to fill the whole pond. So how many days does it take to fill approximately 6-7% of the pond.

The Flu, Common Cold, etc spread this way every year. So far, this is basically H1N1 all over again, except it's respiratory and bad for the old folks and those with heart disease and lung issues.

Expect the death rate to collapse even further, and right now it barely effects anybody under 20, and very few under 50.

From the article: "Losses have been swift, catching even the pros off guard."
So, even "the pros" didn't see that Trump was doing anything wrong. i.e.: Trump was at least doing as good a job as "the pros" would do.

The article cites the DJIA, which isn't a great index of anything. It's just hand-picking a narrow index to spin a narrative.

Let's try the same thing with the much broader S&P 500...
Current price is 2398. On Oct 31, 2016 it was 2085. On Jan 23, 2016 it was 2271. So we're looking at gains of 15% and 5% respectively. Don't forget to also add in about 7% of dividends (using average dividend yield for all S&P 500 stocks).

Also, now that the gamblers are giving Biden a slight edge in the elections (over Trump), some part of this crash might be related to who will be president next year. It's true that the S&P 500 experienced a huge surge in 2019 that was directly proportional to Chief Warren's falling out of favor. I can cherry-pick stats and bogus correlations with the best of 'em!
109456   Patrick   2020 Mar 18, 3:02pm

OK, then no foreign nationals should work in biotech or pharmaceuticals at all.

Seriously.

NASA does not allow any foreign workers already.

And it should be damn difficult to get US citizenship to check for plants by China.

Your assertion that you hope the power and water stays on falls into this category.

Actually, the power goes out around here even just when the wind blows. :-). Also, when the power goes out at home, I often go to work. That's no longer an option. (Fortunately, it's not life-threatening, either.) Also, you might be shocked at how many people are incapable of opening their garage door when the power is out.

As for food, there's this: https://www.eater.com/2020/3/9/21170472/coronavirus-school-closures-free-reduced-priced-lunch-student-meals

But, so far, you are absolutely correct. There's no shortage of food, and hoarding is completely unnecessary with the exception that if I buy a bit more than usual it means I don't have to go to the store weekly. Hey: How well do those gallon jugs of milk freeze?
