It's kind of amazing how consistent these curves are.

California is not buying that and declaring social distancing a success.

Just remove them... The people that were going to die from it will or have died by the end of April. The next wave can't and won't be bigger. And we just move on.

This is what I mean by absurdly optimistic assessments.

The assertion that those that would die will be already dead by end of April relies on nothing. Most people that would die have not been exposed to the virus so far.

If we remove the lockdown measures fully, 75% of the population will end-up getting the virus and maybe 2 millions will die.

That's very likely false. You have summer coming. Most hot countries and even states got away without country or state wide lockdown, also you don't know the true extent of people infected already. Data from Sweden shows a similar virus burn out curve without shutdown. Also you can reopen with restrictions and have those vulnerable wear masks at all times should they decide to mingle. The flu killed around 60k this year in the US, I'd be surprised if we reach 100k per season for Covid-19. Yet millions are deprived of their livelihood. If they by don't open up May 1st I expect unrest and defiance to mount. You can't keep people locked in cages for any longer period.

How about this?

It's breathtaking how they do 180s these days. At first it was a racist and economically damaging overreaction to close travel to China, then Europe, or to forgo large gatherings at a Festival in Chinatown.

Now 2 Million are gonna die, mostly minorities so it's racist, and they want the economy shut down as long as possible to be as damaging as possible.

And of course Hydrochloroquine is an OrangeManBad Placebo he's making money on because he owns a mutual fund with a 3.3% in Sanofil or whatever that company is called, about $1500 worth.

And what about its going to disappear like a miracle in April, to this week is going to be really really bad (paraphrasing) And who has the bully pulpit every fucking day?

USA tested almost 2.1MM people, more than any other nation. Even per 1MM capita they're in the still somewhere in the middle. So much for the "botched testing" narrative.

Not sure how I was optimistic. I simply don't care. This is extremely binary. We have choice A or B. A we stay closed down and people are killing themselves and other diseases get pushed aside. B we open back up and realize that a certain segment of the population needs to get to work to do whatever to help save people by producing goods for the medical field. Many people may die. So? We're not even close to touching any major war or other outbreak from this shit on a per capita basis. The world needs to stop being pussies and understand you can die at any moment.

Anyone thinking locking this down after April 30th needs a lobotomy. You'll likely be the first shot in the face. Hell they're still shooting people on the South side of Chicago.

Trump's happy talk and misstatements trying to keep the nation and markets calm about the virus in the early days don't hold a candle to the staggering hypocrisy and dishonesty we are seeing today by the Democrats and Media trying to gaslight the country to believe that Trump somehow fucked up and caused thousands of people to die.

It is even more crazy considering America is doing better than virtually every modern western country on the planet in keeping deaths and hospitalizations down.

No it's not binary.
Some people will stay locked down. Large groups will still remain prohibited. While other people will be asked to go back to work with a shit load of precautions.

By the way, to food and medical supply chains are obviously opened now.

Yes, correct. Old, fat fucks, diabetics, smokers, etc. Basically the unproductive will and should stay locked down..... and then won't listen and die. I feel like our views are finally converging though, so that's a positive.

We don't fully understand this virus. But with the US data, it's pretty clear who it's killing. If we cannot trust our own data and act on it, then we are truly fucked. We all know the course of action but it's now going to be twisted into some KKK/racist bullshit by the media.

Open the damn thing and take precautions if you're lazy. Those that have a hereditary issues, I feel you having one myself. But I personally don't expect anyone to bend over backwards for me and not make a living. Modern humans are not designed to live like this.
36   theoakman   2020 Apr 8, 7:33am

Long term, this can't continue. The subset of the population that is at risk is by and large, not at the workplace of near retirement. Ultimately, they need to ramp up production of the anti-virals and n95 masks. Eventually, the workplace needs to shift to everyone wearing N95 masks until we get this thing properly vaccinated. And seniors need to shelter in fucking place. I'm in the epicenter in New Jersey and nobody I know is able to convince their senior parents to stay in. They go out and about and to 5 different stores to pick up all the items on sale to save 50 cents. Many of them are incapable of making their own rational decisions anymore with respect to this issue.

There'll be no 'second or third' wave or lockdown. Aside from the absurd speculation-anticipation of the future of panic, when even the 'first wave' is purposefully and erroneously quantified and faked, the Gov's, reeling from the wounds to their tax base from the recent implosion, won't dignify any further 'outbreaks' by even addressing them.

You have data on this? Because according to Pence this can't possibly be correct, its well into April and we should be in the many many millions by now... And I heard him with my own ears make this statement at the March 10 briefing. And he being the good Christian gentleman that he most certainly purports to be, he would would never lie. And all the doctors claiming they cant get people tested and or results back in a timely manner they are obviously part of the deep state, fake news media virus hoax.

"During a March 10 coronavirus press briefing, Vice President Mike Pence declared there would be "more than 4 million more tests" available across the country by the end of that week. At the time, lawmakers from both parties disputed these numbers and said that fewer than 10,000 Americans had been tested.

President Donald Trump increased this number just days later during remarks on March 13, when he promised 1.4 million additional tests would be distributed by March 16, which added up to more than 5 million available tests by the end of March. Another White House official would go on to proclaim on March 21 that 27 million test kits would be available to patients before the end of the month.

This is some welcome news and pertinent to the Tucker Carlson video.
Study investigates if COVID-19 came to Calif. in fall 2019
If so, the state may have built up some herd immunity
MONTEREY, Calif. — Researchers at Stanford Medicine are working to find out what proportion of Californians have already had COVID-19. The new study could help policymakers make more informed decisions during the coronavirus pandemic.
The team tested 3,200 people at three Bay Area locations on Saturday using an antibody test for COVID-19 and expect to release results in the coming weeks. The data could help to prove COVID-19 arrived undetected in California much earlier than previously thought.
The hypothesis that COVID-19 first started spreading in California in the fall of 2019 is one explanation for the state's lower than expected case numbers.

Well there may be select counties and states that need more time but the majority should be able to reopen, esp. if they can manage the hospital capacity and with cold and flu season ending there should be more beds in the spring.summer months. At the minimum open back up restaurants and hotels and all select business who have proven they have the means for proper distancing while operating.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are shooting themselves in the foot in a shitty attempt to gain ONE political office.. POTUS. The state governors, because they've run their states like shit, are going to now come crawling to Trump for a bailout. He'll deny and then it will be the rallying cry to take him out of office.

Federal government was not created to wipe your ass. The fact people are even getting a stimulus check is frankly outrageous, although I do know people that need it. Besides press conferences, I'm not really sure what IL is doing besides creating more hospital beds that don't seem like they'll ever be used at this point. Not going to sit here and claim this is another coup attempt like impeachment, but this is starting to look like a nothing burger. And this is coming from someone taking the whole damn thing seriously.

Yes. This reminds me of teachers at school claiming that is some students put as much effort into studying as they did in to trying to cheat, the student would pass with flying colors.

The cheat analogy: Bogus impeachment, Licenses for illegals along with automatic voter registration, no voter ID, vote harvesting, all so you can elect a senile and corrupt Wall Street favored candidate.

The study analogy: Promote an agenda that favors the American middle/worker class over illegals and outsourcers, and nominate a candidate like Jim Webb or Tulsi Gabbard.

Some people are enthusiastically supporting extreme lock-down out of joy of telling people what they may do; or hope of a dramatic realignment of the political order more to their authoritarian liking. Examples include arresting a lone paddle boarder off Malibu and this below. Clearly these two are not endangering anyone or each other, and it seems obvious that their relationship is most probably more intimate than a beach picnic together:

Left wing authoritarians, which is a vast majority of the Democrat Party, would not have been as vocal if Obama was in the White House now.

But it serves their purpose twice to have Trump there.

First they can criticize him for not doing enough as far as completely shutting down the country. They know this would destroy the economy and hurt his reelection chances.

Second, the left wing authoritarians want a ChiCom style government in the USA with the Democrats in charge and the Republicans as the token opposition. A government like that can easily control its citizen subjects with social credit score system, restriction on movement or travel, etc.

Yes, COVID-19 kills more people than heart disease if the autospies are correctly completed and accurate in the cause of death.

However, the COVID-19 number of deaths outnumbering heart disease deaths will be for only about 2 weeks at most.

I don’t get this one at all. Currently arguing with multiple exactly that type in a Las Vegas travel forum. Like they are delighting in a possible 12-18 month lockdown that only should be lifted if a vaccine is developed. Most are Canadian and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Can anyone show me a legitimate video of an overwhelmed hospital in the US? Saw last night on FB a break room with 12 nurses taking a photo while eating donated pizza and all smiling looking like they were having a good 'ole time. 2 of them were people I know and they're still saying it's been chill during what is supposed to be the deadliest week of this.

I've seen other videos of maybe 3 dozen hospital staff, including nurses cheering on a Covid patient that recovered leaving the hospital. That is the complete opposite of overwhelm. They don't even do that for cancer patients. This is all so weird.

Bingo. Early December there were days when half of my kids class were out because kids were sick. 12 kids in a 22 kid class size. This is IL and not CA, but I'm still convinced this has been around for a while. Administrators said it was something they'd never seen before. Anecdotal and I'm in a small town, but we thought it was weird at the time.

Edit: Forgot to mention that many of these kids that I know well, also got sick again. Highly unlikely they got some bug or flu twice in a season.
