There’s no doubt that Afghanistan is home to over 2 trillion in mineral wealth that includes the largest deposits in the world of rare earth elements (REE!) and Lithium, both of which are critical to modern electronics and battery technology. We have need of those materials, and should have found a way to extract, produce, or negotiate a treaty with the Afghans for trade rights.

But given a choice between the USA and China, it’s us they wish to humiliate and China who will get their business. The ONLY way we could have had a different result was to reasonably and fairly negotiate with the Taliban whom the majority of Afghans clearly prefer. If we could have come to an understanding with that entity, we could have secured 1)a safe exit, 2)amicable relations 3)mutually beneficial trade.
Biden botched all of that in a manner so spectacularly bad that one wonders if he (or his handlers) planned the disaster ahead of time. We know he has deep personal and familial ties to China, and this result he engineered is great for China and terrible for the USA.
