I don't know much about deGaulle, but I do know the United States government hated him. The US tried to have him assassinated, is the rumor.

Here's an interesting thing I heard from Styx - haven't looked it up yet.

Apparently Stalin tried to poison Tito 3 times. Tito told him after the second attempt, he'd do the same and Stalin Wouldn't survive. The 3rd attempt by Stalin was in late 1952.

Stalin died in 1953.
